a game
will cris ever finish and release an actual game?
i am once again asking you to try my arma 3 modhttps://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3569474876
gamedev did this to me
My writing game has improved a lot, because now I can mention all the nights you couldn't sleep thinking that that game you have a lot of effort put will make you a nominee for the game awards, only to find that nobody downloaded it on the demo day and your twitter anouncement got no likes or retweets.
>>544441795Someone likeded my game
Just waiting for some motivation. I got all the time in the world.
I'm making my game without any graphics first. You just affect the simulation via a REPL. Then I will attach Graphics to it.
No money, no acknowledgement, no sense of achievement. Not even a cathartic release.Gamedev is worse than gaming itself.
>>544442148how many schizo posts you make per day
>>544442373and in a modular way. The Simulation does not require a renderer. It will just have the hooks ready just incase I want to add a renderer as a module.

Posted about this yesterday and got some leads, but I’m doubling down today. I’m not a dev, but I wanna shill YOUR game for FREE.Been wanting to give back to /agdg/ for a while now. I can’t code for crap, and besides buying every game that drops, the least I can do is show some stuff off.So toss me your games, demos, or whatever you think deserves some spotlight. I’ll play or showcase ’em for around 30 minutes each, or playthrough the demo if it has one, whichever makes sense.Planning to go live with this next Wednesday on twitch, so send me what you’ve got.Stuff in the pic isn't going to be everything, just what was sent to me so far to check out.
>>544445915how many viewers do you typically get? I'm not gonna waste my time giving a demo to a nobody.

>>544454268>they got hackedalso the hackers uploaded pirated copies of early versions of the game that had a button that when clicked forced a download from the devs' servers to the pirates' computers, actually COSTING the devs money (cloud servers cost money) with each click
>>544454245No, not really, but when you boil them down to basics, they can be achievable.Just hack away at it until it is as I envision. Which console platform is the most friendly to debut/newcomer indie devs? Nintendo? PS? Xbox?Last I tried: Nintendo auto-rejects any Switch Access Requests to newcomers, Sony requires you to be part of a company, and IDK what Microsoft is up to
>>544453820simple blocking works identically to mount and blade you just hold it down and it locks into an angle, advanced blocking has 1 to 1 tracking with the mouse, you have to move the mouse into the correct angle. you can adjust the arm movement speed and mouse sensitivity. i was considering adding an "auto" block feature that works as you suggest but ill see how this feels for people first.

Made picture in picture for the binoculars. Need to make the viewport more square and give it some proper reticle, right now its just a placeholder green crosshair that barely shows up. Bottom pic I had to move the godot face pretty far because the zoom is jacked up. Hopefully I don't have to use an overlay because I like the continuity of lifting something up and seeing the zoom of a pip scope.

Adding "enchants" to special chips. Basically the exact same as balatro's modifiers. Some can be beneficial, some not so much. >>544474954Thanks!>>544474959I dunno, I'm not really worried so much about it failing. The main reason I am working on it this way instead of just making it in unity (I know unity very well I used to make games in unity for about 7 years) is because I want to completely create it on my own. I want to make something that I can be proud to say I created all by myself - I almost feel a bit off about using Raylib and SDL2 because I didn't make those myself but I simply don't have the time to truly create my own renderer from scratch or the ability if I am honest, maybe with enough time I could but I really don't think I have the mathematical capability. I think my hangups are from my pride/artistic nature (I view myself as an artist). When I say I'm not worried about it failing I mean more that I don't really care if it fails or not, it's mostly a hobby and I do it for fun and I really enjoy it - yes the game being commercially successful would be great but I truly work on this for fun and my own personal enjoyment. I guess it would fail in a commercial sense because no one knows it exists aside from people in this thread.

Could slopdevving be considered morally evil? You're basically making games that expediate the enslavement of humanity. You can think you're making casual games to help people relax after work, but does the influence of your games end there? Idk. What if these games didn't exist? What would humanity do? Would we be freed? Do these games need to exist? Would somebody else create them? Can they be modified to have underlying benefits? Many questions.

>>544441795I'm bothered anons, by my lack of "standardized" knowledge about game devving. What I mean by that is, you know how in school you learn about history, math, english etc. and the courses follow a standardized format, with notions that are universal and agreed upon no matter what school you go to? Like take history for example, you're always going to learn about the romans, then the middle ages, then the discovery of the Americas etc.But with gamedev courses, with the ones I took, I always felt like I never really got a wholistic understanding of what's taught. More often than not I have to look up how to's and tutorials on YouTube to fill the gaps those courses have and I always feel like they're improvised solutions the creator of the video discovered, rather than the "right" or "standard" solution.Game dev I feel desperately needs some sort of standardized teaching, I always feel like the things I'm trying to implement aren't being done in the most efficient way possible, quite the opposite in fact
>>544503069this is pointless, game development is about making gamesyou should focus more on having a good game idea that you really want to makeyou'll discover efficient procedures when you need to if your mind is fully absorbed in the process of making your gamejust by having enough passion for my game i ended up intuitively implementing high level software development strategies without doing previous research on themcome up with a game you're passionate about and begin working on it, you'll become efficient
>>544503069that's called being in tutorial hell, anon. try making something without following a tutorial, that's the only way to get the hang of things.if you still insist on some standardized method, look up software architecture and UML or something.

>>544503264>UML>for solo gamedev

Can also watch how someone else does it as inspiration or a jumping off point then do it on my own rather than just copy/pasting code directly.

>>544503069Yeah they teach English in schools and as a result we have a generation of authors who can't write or even spell, and readers who can't read. There are English majors who have never read a whole book. There's a whole section of book tiktok that just can't read or understand any book not written in the first person.Gamedev is already shit enough without letting the education system ruin it
>>544505183i think artist bridge that gap a lot easier than programmers. >how do i do xyz? thats a pretty easy question to answer with art, you do a tutorial to get an understanding of the basic workflow, you read the docs and learn some hotkeys. a few weeks later you realize you don't know what the fuck is going on and your art is shit so you ask>why do i do xyz? then you look up anatomy, color theory, graphic design, and everything starts to fall into place.feels like programming the focus is always the how, and the why is an afterthought.

for some reason it seems like the hardest part as a creative person is to stick to a genre.somehow creativity makes you want to explore different things. yet from an artist identity standpoint it's suicide to not stick to a genre.also improvement mostly happens when specializing in something.you cannot have a brand or an identity without a recurring theme.i feel like for success it's inevitable to tackle this problem.
>>544512014pogo3d doesn't have 1k reviews
fps roguelites seem like a popular genre and even mediocre ones do decently
i figured out i like sandbox survival games because it cures my money-obsessed brain.there is no money in those games, only resources. it makes you think about resources instead of money again. it kinda grounds you in "reality" again. you hunt for food, you cook it and you eat it. and not "how can i serve people in order to get money to buy food".i think a lot of people want that feeling and therefore they play those games. because in reality a lot of people, especially the ones living in big cities, can't experience this anymore.
>>544510787>just two more weeks broThey're never going to get beyond the asset flip stage. And that's what they're competing with right now, asset stores. AI doesn't solve any gamedev problem that isn't already solved by an asset store, or a game template, or an asset pack.I work with AI at my job, it's virtually impossible to get it to correctly and reliably produce consistent results for a given task. Say you want to get it to generate summaries of a document uploaded by the user. The prompt alone for that is pages long and is kept in version control in case some innocuous change causes the AI to have a meltdown. The task of wrangling the AI to produce document summaries still has several devs dedicated to it. The amount of work hasn't decreased, the nature of the tasks that people have to do has changed and the class of features that could be automated has marginally expanded. What you used to be able to pay a room full of thirdworlders to do you can now pay a few devs and OpenAI to do, I'm not sure which is cheaper. For AI gamedev the prompts involved are going to be absoutely massive
