One thing that TF2 has kinda lacked (IMO) over time is the idea that you're always being watched or monitored. It's clear from maps like 2fort and Dustbowl that there is a Portal-like atmosphere behind the mask - the idea that there's high tech hiding beneath the barns and sheds. Even in the earliest "meet the" videos (Heavy, Scout, Demoman, etc) it's clear that the mercenaries are giving interviews to some unseen people.
