minecrawler - mining dungeon crawler
wizard must dive in caves/dungeons to mine for an ore with magical properties. in the depths he encounters many creatures which can be re-animated.
progression happens by improving the wizards skills aswell as it's creatures' skills, pokemon style
mining happens while being constantly assaulted, and thus you must use your creatures to defend while mining

Yeah making the materials more toon-like would help it look more cohesive. Also have you even looked up the interior of a real maid cafe? Why are you making the cafe itself look like a run-down Dennys?

In terms of execution the environment also needs a lot of work, in the materials themselves clashing with the anime girls and in general. That stone wall texture just doesn't look right. If you go into a restaurant/cafe irl maybe they'll have a single feature wall with that shit on it, but having it on all the pillars and around windows and doors just wouldn't be worth the effort. And what is that wood paneling texture? And why is the entire floor wet?

I'm setting up the game's video intro, I have to get the 2D/3D animations set up over time and then prepare everything to give to someone to formulate everything into a video, and I'm talking with an artist for the 2D aspects. The music/vocals are done. The lyrics are not the best, but I think it's bretty good. The main idea is to get the game's video intro set up before making a new trailer so aspects of the intro can be in the trailer which should boost the steam page a bit. Mainly since the current trailer on there is very outdated at this point. Maybe the new trailer will be done by the next /v/3, but I doubt it.

I'm trying to make a segmented character for ease of animation and dismemberment, and the head, shoulders, arms are all well enough that I'm happy with. But the hip is really giving me shit, does anyone know good or have a link/image of good segmented geometry at hip to upper leg? 3d modeling is a process of solving a series of geometric puzzles as you try to shape the mesh into what you want. It's very easy for beginners to allow the existing topology of the mesh to dictate the shape of the object because they will follow the path of least resistance instead of making the mesh serve the shape of the object.

Drawing, at least for non-artlets, doesn't suffer from this problem. It allows you to define shapes and play with ideas before trying to realize them in full 3d.

Meshes are easier to animate if they're contiguous. If you want to dismember you could just have body meshes with missing limbs and then spawn disconnected limbs in as needed. Having a dismembered limb as part of the same mesh is going to be a pain.

it's boring and extremely difficult but is crucial for improving your programming skills and making sure you can actually finish your game within a reasonable time frame
similar to the abraham lincoln quote, if you have 6 hours to cut down a tree, spend the first 4 hours sharpening your axe
in regards to game development, it might seem slow at first to pre-optimize your systems to be compatible with the final build, but spending three months laying a stable foundation can save you from three years of refactoring an incomprehensible codebase

That's a very good advice and I know exactly what you mean but I'm a literally that clueless guy from a meme where "today I'll add items interaction" and I just do it and later, like couple months later, I go "today I'll make that item interraction in a different context" and then I do flips and sommersaults to fit a square into a triangle.
It's a sensible thing to preplan and think about stuff in advance but I was and still am in a phase where I believe I can figure that out along the way and that burning sensation and feeling of hopeless is necessary for me to grow.

Like the Tekbow from Turok, it has the power and arc of the throw determined by how long you hold fire before releasing, with only a short second or two needed to reach full power. Naturally the player is a gigachad who throws it like a bullet with a pretty flat trajectory at max power.
So you fire it it, it sticks in things, and it explodes.
Thoughts on this? Could certainly have a better name.

I like the idea of remixing retro games into unique challenges that combine aspects of multiple games and feel like Nintendo didn't go far enough in NES remix and the Nintendo World Championship game on switch. From what I can guess he should use something like 100% texture, from 100% pure sound design.

What I mean is that he seems to use 32th notes arpeggios here, but they sort of like have a long envelop decay to blend and not sound bad.

The other things are like plucks and piano with reverb.

4chan is an anime website, its userbase consists of emotionally stunted maladjusted social rejects who spent their formative years arguing on 4chan and watching anime instead of achieving normal life milestones. As such they are severely out-of-touch with the wider culture that they're trying to sell games to.

Anime is still a niche, and it's very well catered to by mobile gatcha slop, which provide a standard of anime girl that the average agdg dev cannot meet. You can also see those games have a disproportionate effect on the users of 4chan because /vg/ itself is flooded with general threads for these games.

It's a big problem, and a casual glance at https://made-by-agdg.vercel.app/ I can't really see any agdg game over 500 reviews that features an anime artstyle except maybe Peripeteia and maybe World of Horror but if that's an 'anime' style it's very much closer to the oldschool/realistic end of the spectrum than the uwu big eye underage girls that agdg seems to be obsessed with.

Anyway my game doesn't have anime in it so it's not my problem.

I'm reading some headlines and I'm scared the world is turning into an even more dystopian hell. If you're planning on making it, do it quick because the window of opportunity is every so slightly closing in on us. What if entire countries are locked away from you as gamedev, you can't reach those customers anymore. You've seen the Steam VISA issue, but what if due to things outside your control soon you'll become a casualty and won't be able to make it due to lack of customers able to pay for your game.

Yep it's obvious it's becoming more dystopian especially the UK (I don't live there). The US market is available to me which is probably where games get the majority of their profit. It becoming a closed ecosystem would hurt third world devs more than first world devs. In fact it would probably temporarily benefit first world devs, well until the system gets so closed off and content bans prevent you from even making many if any sales at all

My game flopped bigly. Nobody boughted it and I have not marketedied my game at all. Yet for some reason people keep boughting my game every couple weeks.
