>>546735480from what I read the biggest problem right now is lack of factions, with only 4 in the early access.did a new faction release?
>>546735480Not really, it's still pretty mediocre. The major changes since launch about rebalancing the AI and military still don't really improve the experience (both still bad).
What do you fags think about that 40k civ game, gladius relics of war?
>>546738328I like it, but someone said about another Warhammer game that if you don't know anything abotu the lore, you'll be lost a lot. Like, the game explains how to play it, but it does a poor job at explaining how strong units are, so the first time you send guardsmen against necrons?
>>546738328>abotuI can't type. But yeah, it's kinda fun, but it suffers from two major issues that I can remember:1) you have to know Warhammer 40000 to appreciate it,2) it's very shallow, there's little diplomacy or economy. It's essentially Civilization, but with only the fighting, everything else is simplified. So yeah, if you expect Chapter Master, don't.Among other issues, there's some kind of loneliness to it. Like, you have mods in Br*tish to add voices, but everything is silent except for music and sound effects. And also, yeah, there are DLCs that can fuck up the balance. Like, Space Marines in Gladius are meant to be tall, early-bloomers (I hope that's the right word), so in early game, they have space marines when everyone else is sending guardsmen or termagaunts, but they lose steam as the game progress, and being limited to one town, they can get outproduced by other factions. The DLCs give them more and more lategame toys so that they have more staying power.

>>546908243Having another go?I picked AoW4 up again because of the vamp dlcvampires seem like they have a rough start, early game is weak but they've got some thematic/fluffy optionsthis fight was fun though, caught out of position and tried to make the best of it>based on enchantments, stacking poison/decay/bleeding/ghostfire/blood parasites>constantly dropping ghostfire comets like it's fucking meteor rain, with the death magic empire skill combat cast points are constantly refreshed>since blood parasites kept being spread everywhere, end up with shitty tier1 maggot units popping up out of every enemy corpse like chestbursters>worms gunk up enough of enemy attacks all my actual heavy hitters can hammer enemy heroes>each death counts for Mortal Blessing, so both sides max out their HP/crit chance bonus super fucking quick>still lost both T3s, necromancer's rez saved for my warrior hero, blood cultist got to sneak in resurgence due to black dagger, necro himself got resurgence after I cast that new dark death cult kys/resurgence spell before he died due to enemy debuffsI don't even have super synergy here, this was just me picking what looked cool for a vampire and one of the new Dark subcultures
>>546912437Yeah, having another go. A friend asked my opinion about AoW4 compared to Dominions, so I had to spelunk back into it to make sure I told him how complicated the game is.How are vampires compared to necromancers?
>>546912590well I'm still learning what is and what qualifies as a vampire ingame. It looks like the vampire ruler class, and any heroes they hire get instantly vamp'd, so you can grow your own goth gang that actually drain/feeds extra experience to the vamp ruler. Vamp rulers get castlevania buildings to replace wizard tower stuff, a new terrain type they want to spread, Sunless, because vampires get noticeable debuffs if they're not underground or in Sunless terrain. Their unique skill tree is alright, but people think they feel weak early game with the terrain disadvantage and increased unit upkeep for themselves. Dragon Rulers cost more gold upkeep too, but are IMMEDIATELY rewarding because they're a fucking dragon
>>546912590Necromancers are just a support unit, but they can fill a niche in Dark cultures since they don't have a native support unit. They still require extra investment though to be rewarding compared to grabbing the Chaplain unit from the Order tomes. Necromancer skills are keyed to buff/reraise only undead units, which if you're grabbing necromancy tomes is generally just going to be stuff like skeletons or zombies early on. Stick with it and you can hit your entire race with a Major TF spell to add the undead tag and suddenly necromancers can raise any of your guys without them being reduced to a T1 skellyThe shadow/necromancer tomes have a lot of resurrection stuff for undead. Stacking enough and the only way your units will really die is if their corpse is destroyed while still knocked out. Corpse destruction is an important feature to counter any serious undead gimmick
>>546916438Damn, that sounds awesome. I do like the aesthetic, look like a mix of Castlevania, the Vampire Counts from Warhammer with the inversed towers, and V Rising for the blood fountain.>>546917054Sorry, I meant "Undead" in general, not just Necromancers. But checking again, they were faction in AoW2 but not 4.
>>546918000I played AoW1 plenty, but didn't get around to 2 yet. Undead were fucking busted in 1, but that was clearly intentional. If you weren't the Highmen you better fucking have priestsUndead in 4 get a small blight/frost resistence, larger fire/spirit weakness, Heartless to makes them resistant to morale damage, and immunity to disease and poison. You can start small with skelly spam, toss in stuff like bone golems, banshees, or bone dragons, if you get a soul economy going. Souls as a tertiary resource can be clumsy to manage, but undead have gotten enough updates since release it feels more reasonable now. The biggest dick undead creature summons, like Reapers, have cheaper upkeep in exchange for constant soul upkeep. Eventually, probably aim for making your entire race undead. Two major TF spells do this so far.>wightborn comes with life steal on all attacks, super easy and useful effect. the vanilla option available, makes people look like hollow-faced skeletor-men which could be really cool if you toss in any minor TF that gives glowy eyes>Gift of the Old Blood only gives extra heal on kill instead of on attack, but ALSO includes chance to inflict Blood Parasite on all base attack, which is like Bleed+ designed to affect anything immune to bleeding and spawn T1 maggots if the target dies. They keep their face but get glowy eyes, basically drank the blood of an undead cthulu horror or something. This TF was part of the vampire DLC that just released. It's higher up on the research tree than Wightborn. I wouldnt say its stronger unless you stack bleed skills and gimmicks, then it feels badass. Wightborn still feels useful on it's own plus you can research it earlier

>>546654830Some of the baseline mechanics under everything is literally the same between the two games and both games rely on mods to fix half/most of the games' numerous shortcomings. But with CS2 you get to burn a shit ton of processing and gpu power to render an ugly mess that isn't even doing any of the things it said it was going to do. Some of the stuff it does makes a bit more sense but the things players wanted improved/fixed under the hood were never addressed.>>546873842Imagine swimming in so much money from the original but pretending they can't put together enough resources to fix their shitshow.
>>546950332>>546944946Bros. There was so much I liked about sim city 2013 outside the small ass cities. And apparently the servers were the bottleneck. They figured out how to make bigger ones but EA axed them fast after their publishing blunder. It's sad
Canal to irrigate district 2 combusted into being.
>>546944946I mean, maybe so but it still killed the franchise pretty spectacularly. Any car can go up in flames if driven poorly enough and circumstances align just wrong. Maybe 2013 wasn't a Ford Pinto and destined to be shit, but it certainly wasn't a luxury sports car before it immediately crashed and burned.

>>546908140Who fucked up more? Was it Colossal Order being retarded and unable to manage game development, or did Paradox give them unrealistic demands and timeframes? Genuine question, I just tend to default to shitting on Paradox.
>>546954732the servers were not the bottleneck. the game was designed with a focus on mechanical details rather than map painting. you were not supposed to be able to build a single massive city to do everything, you were supposed to choose a specialization, and have multiple cities in a region support each other. limited space was a design decision to create a more interesting simulation.

For people that actually play timberborne a lot, I only played it for like 15 hours but I was confused by how you were supposed to manage droughts later on. I had made a massive reservoir that took up like half the map and was super fucking deep that filled up and then slowly let it out during drought with floodgates but I would still run out and it felt like the game was going to become unwinnable. Maybe I was doing something really wrong but I had such a ridiculous amount of water compared to the map I didn't understand what else I was supposed to be doing.

If it had to be realistic you could just borrow whatever you need then make the newspaper business you want and immediately win the game. There really isn't much to gain with having realistic numbers because it's never going to be realistic.
>>547115183I'm not saying to meticulously research the cost of every single thingI'm saying to just have values that aren't blatantly, obviously too low. Most of this shit could be solved by adding a zero to everything.
>>547011294Ehhh, probably not as good, I'd say it's still decent on it's own, since the devs are giving free patches with each update. The strongest ruler picks are still the vanilla options, and the vanilla cultures have been getting reworks that leave them really strong. All the extra leader/culture options, you'd be playing them for flavor rather than meta pickBiggest annoyance would be being locked out of the DLC tomes, since those are your extra research/tech tree options. Play like, six full games and you've probably experienced the entire vanilla tech tree, the extra shit helps clutter and expand options a lot. Also not having the ability to insert any DLC events or map features into custom realms for your ideal sandbox could be limiting too. The studio really embraced that paradox DLC mindset
The pretentious Haakonish>Due to their Pretentious Design (and advanced gravitic tech), Haakonish ships, stations and facilities cost 20% more resource and take about 10% longer to build>Haakonish trade treaties now have a variety of advantages.>Binding Contracts mean that hey tend to cause factions to weight their trade towards the Haakonish.>If a faction with a trade treaty goes to war with the Haakonish, they get a reputation penalty and any independents who also have a trade treaty with them and the Haakonish break their treaty with that faction due to Penalty Clauses.>Account Confiscation means that going to war with a Haakonish faction you trade with gives them an immediate boost to income at your expense, equivalent to their last year’s trade income with you.>The Haakonish player may at any point choose to Exploit Loopholes in the trade treaty, which gives the Haakonish player an instant income boost, at the cost of some Reputation and breaking the treaty.>Completing any Haakonish-specific tech now gives a boost to happiness for the Haakonish due to their sense of their Superior Destiny>The Haakonish player may choose to use creative accounting on any of their planets to boost their empire’s income in the short-term, at the cost of more corruption in the medium-term.>The Haakonish player may choose to initiate Xenophobic Riots on any of their planets with non-Haakonish population. This immediately reduces the non-Haakonish population by 25% at the cost of a reputation and migration draw penalty.>>547115707Yeah I get that but the ratio's is the most important thing that is influencing gameplay. There's plenty of smaller stuff that is below 50 dollars, like small decorations and things to improve stats of your journalists. I dunno, it doens't bother me as long as the game is fun and well paced.
>>547117342I remember playing some airport sim ages ago, and when building a terminal actually cost like 15 million dollars instead of pocket change I was like "wait you can just do that?" and have been perpetually pissed off at games that have buildings cost 50 dollars ever since,
>>547073508I like how Railroad Tycoon 2 does money as thousands of dollars so it keeps the simplicity while also preserving the large scale budget
>>547117710railroad tycoon is set in the 1800's, a locomotive actually did cost around 2-5000 dollars back then, which was basically a fortune, I think something like 150K adjusted for inflation.
>>547117342Some of the upcomming Teekan changes. (The Teekan shipset image is too large.)>Improved starting access to civilian ships>Teekan Military ships are smaller in hull size compared to other military ships but can fit just as many components, so are a bit more fragile>Teekan ships, stations and facilities build 30% faster thanks to their mastery of quick modular construction>Teekans are more willing to initiate Trade Agreements>Teekans gain resistance to bombardment and ground combat damage due to their semi-nomadic nature resulting in fewer high population concentrations on their planets>Teekan militia and troops gain a major boost to attack and defense strength on Desert sub-type planets>If they have only 1 colony, Teekans can now choose to become Galactic Nomads, load their entire population onto one colony ships and abandon that colony, becoming a Refugee Fleet looking for a new start elsewhere>Colonizing a new planet gives that planet a migration draw bonus due to the Teekan wanderlust>Teekans can now choose to have a Great Bakdur Hunt on any Desert sub-type planets!>>547117475Sure for very big constructions that would be kinda jarring. The most expensive thing in News Tower I've found so far is adding floors to your tower, they get exponentially more expensive. I'm still in the early game so things are still not that expensive, I'm also investing every dollar I have because I only have until 1939 to win the game.
4X or "grand strategy" (I still don't know the difference) game with the best AI? And by "best" I mean with personality and a "human" edge, like making alliances behind my back, double-crossing, leaving my alliance because they don't think I'm strong enough, all of that kind of stuff. The only time I've really felt it was when I was entirely new to the genre and first played Civ6, so I didn't know what I was doing, and it actually felt like Alexander played a long-con on me, and other similar situations. They felt real, up until I realized how flat and shit and garbage it actually is. Is there anything actually good out there, in this regard? Or have studios given up on this aspect in favor of actual humans playing against each other, which I have 0 interest in.
>>547118646One more ability for the Teekan. Ackdarians are now the last ones that need to be updated.>They are "Salvage Kings" so there will be times when they pick up the various space debris around the galaxy that you see a choice pop up, giving you a chance to use their ability to find some extra-special salvage.

You're just doing it dab on an enemy you could've easily defeated by just killing him
>>547123119The best ending for a game I've played so far is Wasteland 3, there's a song but the verses and slides depend on how you handled various events. I thought that was pretty neat.

>>547118897>"grand strategy"Marketing term Paradox uses for their map painting games, i.e. Victoria or Europa Universalis. The gameplay is distinct enough and Paradox fans autistic enough that people rarely use 4X to describe those kinds of games. Stellaris is weird where the /gsg/ dudes don't care for it and it's still technically a real time 4x, so it kinda lives here.

Construction work on the Empire State has now been finished. Also I've been doing some reading and siding with a faction does imply making enemies of their opposing faction. So should I side with the Mayor or the Mafia? I could also side with the High Society or the Army. Bonusses of the Mafia and Army seen rather weak. High Society gives your reporters some boosts it seems.
>>547136524>SuedeWow, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. A long time.I'm not trying to diss map painters, would be disingenous of me as someone who plays a lot of spreadsheet simulators. I mostly find it a bit haughty of Paradox to call their games "grand" strategy, but it is admittedly an objectively good marketing term. It is also useful to distinguish it from a more traditional 4X game as Vicky/EU don't have the same kind of exploration that say Civ or EL have, and have a more "narrative"-focused progression since you roleplay a country throughout a certain historical era.
>>547139886GET THE ARMY and high society.Fuck the maffia.
At least the ruined planets look cool and cough up a pretty hefty amount of resources
>>547141407Yeah? It's a pretty common thing. See Dead Space, Deep Rock Galatic, and the Squats in Warhammer 40000000.
>>547141248It's either Mayor or Mafia. The other one is either Army or High Society. Army only seems cheaper in getting more floors and helps reporters recover more quickly if they get beat up. While high society seems to only one that has a lot of long term passive boosts. Maybe being friends with the mob would also mean they don't visit often. I somehow need a lot of informative pieces to avoid being hit early next week. There are no informative pieces anywhere to be found. Help.>>547141407Nice. I need to get back into that game.
>>547142286Can go with Mayor and army?
>>547142838Yes that is also a possibility.
Oof. Got lucky there. I need to get more prestige to add another page. I'm starting to get more articles than I have space again. I also see there is an achievement to fill at least a 3 page newspaper with nothing but adds. That should be fun to do at some point.

I'm guessing it leave Early Access next year, pretty much the only thing left is Steam Workshop for mods.Zombies no longer spawn a reaper instantly upon death, now requiring 2 turns first to incubate.Enemy acc modifier is 1.1x down from 1.3x on Commander difficulty.Less soldier slots for dropships, so you don't have to manage as many soldiers. Seemingly controversial, but sounds like they decreased number of aliens slightly (I hope) on normal missions to make missions shorter. 16-slot missions still get 16 to make those missions feel more special.Servitors don't reaction fire, and have less acc bonus for short range, previously were very deadly if they catch you, and don't auto heal enemies after every single hit, previously sucked dick if there were multiple servitors in the area.Buffed range and reduced TU cost for sniper rifle (lol nice).Shield nerfed to protect 100% in 90 degrees front but reduce to 20% protection to 180 degrees sides, previously protected 180 degrees which they thought was too much. Note when an enemy shoots at a trooper, he will turn to face enemy, so another enemy might end up flanking him.Nerfed Guardian armor and buffed Colossus armor (also gets Power Fist melee weapon) as previously there wasn't much reason to equip Colossus armor except to larp.Added Soviet Town biome.Bunch of other changes. All the graphics are in place.

In AoW4 with abilities that target an additional unit within some range, is it possible to choose or even predict which extra unit will be targetted? It almost seems random or something I can't figure out how it's deciding.

Your default options are pretty fucking strong>new racial formsNot essential, also just for fun or flavor, since traits are as modular as Stellaris. The biggest most used DLC race would be Lizardmen in the dragon DLC, apart from that the selection is already solid>new culturesThese determine a big part of your 'theme' with building looks, faction abilities, and starting unit roster. All the vanilla cultures are either 'good enough' or OP. DLC cultures are pretty nice to grab for extra thematics, but not needed. Unless you like guns, then you need to play Reavers, and struggle early game because Reaver early game is the worst shit but you get fucking awesome once you're mass producing Magelock rifles>new tomesEach DLC adds new research options, and those are always fucking good to have. They diversify your play experience bigtimeI think for the most bang for your buck if you're going to shill, two have at least more unique shit than others. I'm mostly valuing options you can shove into the sandbox custom map mode>Eldritch DLCThis adds the tentacle realm map layer to explore, raid, and make loops around, good tomes, including an anti-tentacle purging fire tome, eldritch ruler type which performs as a decent flavor horror ruler, and evil city state tentacle hives in the tentacle map layer to either negotiate with for eventual rewards or fight to the death>Giant DLCAdds a 'legends' map modifier to your map options to play on that gives artifact hunting and quests, giant king rulers which are pretty solid fighters but also economy multipliers, two very good new tomes including one that let's you maximize making a fully underground empire for full gooncave tone, and a neutral city state of crystal men to do business with for big rewards or just plunder if you're bored
>poke enemy defense>manage to kill his mage>he's back almost instantly, somehow has a full T2 stack waiting for him>make a beeline for my capital, he knows exactly where it is despite never scouting it>while I manage to take a bordertown of him, he manages to magically sail through the sea, not taking any attrition as he lands on my capital's doorstep>somehow has a power over 500 despite having T1 units while I began to field T2 units with some chaff>lose because no way I can recover from losing my capital

Keeping vassals is viable so long as they aren't going to get immediately steamrolled by anything you might still be fighting. Yes, more than civ5, in some ways.I heard there was an update recently too.Might go for Anno 117 though the only one in that series I played was like 10 minutes of the tutorial for 1404, didn't catch me. I apparently also have 1800 in my library that I haven't even tried. Frostpunk too. Sometimes I make a deal with myself to buy a game instead of drink but often I end up just doing both

>>546715330This time it is really done Yuri. Rip in pepperoni. ('-')7 >>547718685It's okay anon. The only thing you can do is accept it. I found it quite hard when I became 30 but in the end I don't feel that different, it's mostly people exaggerating about these kind of things.
>>547718217I didn't, that wasn't me, but will check it out
>>547718685Sure you are
>see Black Friday sale on Steam>Civ 7 is there>after -35% discount it costs as much as a full price gameWhat the fuck are those tards smoking with the pricing? I could get like 2 boxes of Space Marines for that MSRP.
>>547720074I could buy a sword for that price.
>>547719648Feels weird when you talk to people and realize they havent even been around when you played your first vidya..>>547720074Didnt Firaxis fired like all the people who worked on that piece of trash?
>>547720074Real men play guard with chinese knockoffs and 3d printed ones because fuck selling a kidney for a starter 2500p army
>>547720074It's not like you would finish painting them anyway.
>>547720438>real men play autistic plastic mini figure games
>>547720395>Feels weird when you talk to people and realize they havent even been around when you played your first vidya..I guess that everyone of us will experience this at some point. It's just the way things work. I hope I can pass down some of the better games or gaming tastes to some of my younger family members.
>>547720517Well, the wife seems to think so. Maybe it's the paint fumes?
>>547720438For me it's russian recasts and for KT only b/c im a poorfag
Wrath of the Righteous has a shitty HoMM minigame so /crpgg/ and /civ4xg/ are basically siblings
>>547728321>shitty>HoMMGet out.
>>547728321It's weird that I'm autistic enough for 4x games but CRPGs just never clicked with me
>>547728520You misunderstood, it's a HoMM minigame, which is actually shitty.>>547728724They're a different shade of autism and have more conversation and interpersonal things, which doesn't appeal to everyone. But it's interpersonal at a safe distance, like playing with dolls. Dolls that have stats and stuff.
(You) there! Post your top 10 civ-like 4x games. Excluding civ

>>547720465True, I only ever finished painting one tactical squad, one Predator, one Stormtalon and one Librarian.
>>547730000I think he means that the minigame is shitty, while HoMM was not (or at least some of them weren't).
>>547729736Master of OrionEndless LegendOld WorldOriental EmpiresStars in ShadowMaster of Orion: Conquer the StarsDune: Spice WarsGal Civ 4Endless Space 2Alpha CentauriIn no particular order. Maybe like Endless Legend, Dune: Spice Wars and Master of Orion the most.
>>547730570>Dune: Spice WarsBased.
>>547730000Fuck off what? It's badly done. I loved HoMM3, though I haven't played the others. The HoMM-like aspect of WotR sucked though, unfortunately.
>>547730482Nah, he's a baiting cocksucker.
Man challenge mode really demands some farmlandNot even 150 people yet
>>547730694Yeah, it's fun.>>547731341Wait a couple of days anon. There will be a big update the 26th in just two days.
>>547733421Even if they cucked Atreides, it's still fun!

How many of you love early game in 4x games but get bored late game and lose the will to continue?
>>547743353That's every 4X game ever
>>547743353that's only poorly paced 4x games on maps that are too big
>>547743353After playing enough you'll notice there's a point 1/3rd to 2/3rds of the way to the nominal endpoint of the game where you know you've already WON, but the game's not over yet. The AI generally isn't smart enough to fight a player who's optimized his holdings or even snowballed, which is why they just get dumb bonuses on higher difficulties in a lot of games. Try shorter maps or more chaotic worldgen settings.
>>547742712WHEAT
>>547743954usually I get a pretty tense ending trying to eke out a win by a few turns but maybe that's just me
>>547743353late game is just knowing your victory is already guaranteed it's just a matter of how long it takes to get it and if you can be bothered to waste the time with how much there is manage every turn
