Sonic is an "All Might", so he has a "Deku". But the story isn't focused on "Deku" here, it's focused on the "All Might" himself, so we're not focused on what would be the My Hero Academia narrative, we're essentially time locked in the early Gurren Lagann episodes where Kamina was still alive. Gurren Lagann and My Hero Academia are both examples where they create this cool, iconic and powerful "Mascot" symbol that's infectiously larger than life and aspirational, and very successfully so... specifically to fill the mentor role for a young kid meant to grow beyond them in the long run. THIS franchise, however, made this character the actual main character, and didn't create the Kid character until a year later. Like how the Batman franchise did it, or the Flash franchise. Either way, these characters are drawn to one another. You can't have Batman without Robin, and you can't have Kamina without Simon. If you have a "Mascot" characer that is a walking logo, there must also exist the Kid who will walk in those same footsteps even if it means wearing their own pair of big yellow shoes, red shorts and white gloves.

So inevitable that when you start with the average kid that no one understands, you inevitably circle back to this insanely awesome and invincible heroic symbol that kid must idolize beyond belief, to the point that if that hero was just a fictional character to them and this kid was in the real world but had magical fairy godparents, the kid WILL magically wish himself into the comic book where he will literally become the directly Robin-inspired sidekick fashioned after that hero they admire so much. These archetypes are linked, on a fundamental level. The "Kid" character that's meant to be relatable to you and me as real people is automatically gonna have a direct attachment to the walking logo that embodies a larger than life symbol.

I honestly think Ian's best writing was when he was working with the fanfic tier Archie content and not trying to write welll... the actual Sonic. He wasn't a fan of the actual Sonic in the first place. Accuracy and quality are different things and frankly his quality decreases whenever he's trying to be accurate. Archiedow is superior to Ian's attempts at an in-character Shadow for similar reasons.

Yet she is the series mascot for the "Women the wiser" trope. I guess this is either due to the comics or the constant attempts at taking Sonic down a peg in the west.
