Took like 15 minutes to analyze TF2's steamdb charts. The only reason players really got into the game was because they released item trading and the drop system around May of 2009. Before they released the items, TF2 had roughly anywhere from (at it's lowest) approximately 6,000 users to about (at it's highest) 24,000 active users on Steam. When the item system was implemented into the game, that number shot up to it's new highest 44,000 users around July of 2010 and then again to 101,000 users when the game became free to play in June of 2011. Based on this data, I've come to the conclusion that much of TF2's "oldfags" are larping basedllennials and zoom zooms. Actual oldfags must be long gone, or simply weren't that interested in it's hype like the current state of TF2. So why exactly do players posture as oldfags and veterans of a game that even during it's supposed golden era wasn't really that popular to begin with? I understand that pc gaming became more accessible, but doesn't that also kind of prove my point that most TF2 players are larping newfags?
