>>548015884Spear is a defensive weapon on thief.Antiquary is redditslop and I can't/won't help you.You have two main options that aren't shit, pistol deadeye and rifle deadeye. They have different trait builds. Rifle does more damage and has more "tricks up its sleeve", but is more involved. Pistol is brainless stupid but simple; it's low damage overall, you won't be winning any DPS meters, but it works, especially in open world. In fact it's quite good at map exploration, events, metas, etc. Deadeye steal+explode spam is tuned weird and it does hefty amounts of first strike damage and recharges itself against trash mobs, to the point you can effortlessly "steal kills" in a lot of zones with very little effort, just mashing two keys and causing OHKO mob explosions and laugh while some retard charges up for his big swing but misses cause you already killed everything in range of him. But naturally it adds nothing against champs/legends, for those you'll just be spamming your pistols (put #3 on autocast, not #1) and lifeleeching. You heal from shooting, so never stop shooting.Rifle deadeye can be satisfying, but it's prone to a lot of breakage. It's dependent on ordered dodges, projectile hits, managing combo points, and spamming actions without overlap, all things that can potentially go wrong in open world scenarios. On the plus side, you get a lot of stealth and evade so it's fairly good for soloing champs or siccing them on some other loser. Spear, as mentioned before, is a defensive weapon; if a lot of melee shit gets up in your face and you can't get out of there (e.g. that champ trait that makes them immune to ranged attack) you may want to switch to it to get in there while spamming stealth as part of your combo. But it's kind of clunky.then there's some spectre shit but i'm not a supportcondi tranni so you're on your ownt. that thief that steals all the kills you need for your vault weeklies

HPs are pretty much in reverse-chronological order for difficulty, so VoE has the easiest, then EoD, etc, but even HoT has a good number that are pretty easy for a new player to get (just skip the ones that you can't reach or that you can't do).Doing the first hour or so of SotO is okay if you want to be able to use elite spec weapons without that spec, same thing with JW for spears, but I wouldn't go as far as leveling up masteries for mounts or anything.If you want mounts then I'd just pick PoF as your starting point and backtrack from there once you have the basic suite (but HoT is pretty special without mounts so I'd recommend at least trying that, even if you're going to see everybody around you going places you can't get to yet).

>>548243327The Living World stuff is important for the story to make sense especially since they happen between the expansions, seasons 3 and 4 (and like half of Icebrood Saga) are actually decent. Season 3 and 4 are good for farming ascended accessories, season 4 gets you the rollerbeetle mount and one path to the skyscale and one of the best open world farming maps (Dragonfall). Icebrood Saga gets you some raid encounters (currently called Strikes but renamed and merged with Raids soon) and another good open world farming map (Drizzlewood Coast, Bjora Marches is decent too).Along with what anon said, SotO gives you a route to farm legendary armor which is a popular long-term goal. The newest expansion is off to a good start, the mount it gives/upgrades is given right at the start and you can almost basically fly with it. The elite specs with VoE are mostly decent, and it has easy Hero Points you can use to unlock specs on your characters. Has some nice legendaries to farm (aquabreather, staff/spear, ring, accessory, + another weapon later). Janthir Wilds' leggies are spear and backpiece.

>>548316305Stat-wise Legendaries are all the same, and cost/crafting-wise everything is roughly equal within a generation (the four Gen2s that have extensive collections are a little different from the rest that don't) so there aren't really traps. The original Gen1 Greatswords like Sunrise still have some of the coolest effects, so you can't go too wrong there.
