alright let's try this new sloplaris DLC
>>547983256>install Stellaris>start game>enable tutorial>still have no idea wtf to do>uninstall and reinstall Civ: Beyond Earth insteadI just can't, all the menus are too intimidating and I don't know where the fuck to even start.
>>548056472Most of the complicated stuff is from DLCs, just turn those off if you have them and it's a lot simpler.
>>548054014>>when all the pops are gone the colony is automatically abandonedIts fucking annoying as hell..>all the infrastructure simply vanishes when you ship people offworldThey really need to fix this shit.
>>548056821I only have some expansion called Utopia installed. I wanted the cybernetic ship sets since they look the coolest imo but apparently I don't have access to that. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do and someone said I'm supposed to pause it but I can't find the pause button, nor do I know when I'm supposed to un-pause and re-pause.I just wasn't cut out for non-turn-based 4x, this shit is too overwhelming and I'm sure I'll miss a ton of stuff I'm supposed to be keeping tabs on. Sorry, I've been too spoiled by Civ 5 constantly reminding me what I'm supposed to pay attention to before I can even hit "next turn".
>>548057461Just press spacebar to pause.
stupid frogposter
>>548054440when the fuck did tech ascendancy get nerfed
>>548035185I'm always waiting for the next update. The last one was pretty good, I hadn't played the game for a couple of years at that time. I really hope they make the late game more interesting. Interaction with colonies and other empires could have some more depth.
>>548057520Again, I don't know when I'm supposed to pause or un-pause. Every minute? Every few seconds? This gameplay just doesn't make any fucking sense to me.
>>548046451I've only played Foundation and like that game because you can just chill and build your medieval town/village. There's no stress, just relaxed building and designing the special buildings in your town.
>>548057940It's hasn't beenthe basic policies it unlocks still give a 10% research boost, but you can now focus on specific fields for a bigger boost for that fieldIt's actually a buff, but really poorly included and explained.
>>548035185>>548058069I just checked and I have like 3.39GB of mods for /ss/ in 150 indivdual folders, each one one different mod.I have so much shit to play that I can expend the next two years without updates, while Alex does whatever to add more REDACTED and SUPERREDACTED.
>>548058230Stellaris is more grand strategy than 4x, so instead of opening with something small for you to gradually expand out and learn things along the way, it more or less drops you into the deep end of the pool with the entire system at your disposal and leaves you to just figure it out as best you can. It's definitely not for everyone and if you've never played gsg or Paradoxx titles then the learning curve might be too steep. I've seen veteran 4x players get frustrated/overwhelmed enough to just give up even after hours of gameplay so you wouldn't be the first to walk away.It also doesn't help that there's a gajillion DLCs so the rules are constantly changing.
>>548059581Alright that makes sense. Maybe someday when I'm retired and have nothing but time to figure all this out I'll circle back to it. I really like the aesthetics of the game but having this many menus in a game and not have it be turn-based is insane to me.
>>548058953Me too anon. I play Starsector once every couple of years and spend the rest of the time playing games in my backlog. I'm still a bit dissapointed I didn't get to fly pic related yet, I've never came across blueprints or someone selling the thing.

>>548060739I think you can terraform them later, but they can also show up as random habitables, although they're obviously much rarer than normal planets. There's a civic that allows you terraform them early with a special building, too
>>548046451I'm biased towards foundation because it's freeform and has a building system I really like
>>548060739Don't invest in that random ass free space district until later, when you've got plenty of other jobs for those thermo-whatevers to buff on a colonyI've only tried one infernal run so far but replacing food district options with something that buffs all your other common jobs, AND become a unity or research district feels kinda fucking strong
>>548061820I usually build one district early on because you can specialize it into research or unity districts
>>548061475Very nice. Add some benches and stuff your people can interact with. The lanterns also look very good when you set the game to night or dusk.
>>548056472put "oldstellaris" in beta code and go back to pre-2.0very simple and fun game then
>>548067701Not that anon but is that version the one with all the 3 different ftl methods? That was a cool concept, I wish they iterated on that idea further. Still early versions were very shallow with little other to do than blobbing which somehow still is the case with Stellaris.
>>548070213so shallow + bullshit tediumor shallow + simplistic funwhat a choice

Managing my finances is still pretty rough.I'm honestly surprised challenge mode is actually challenging.Games like this usually get to a point where you are submerged in abundance and all challenge is lost.Trying to expand in the right ways and still keep the books stable has been a serious issue, especially with wanting to get down the Kingdom progression tree now.

>>548085150It's not just neutral space critters, it's also all other empires and independent factions if you get too close to any of their starbases (other than Tyanki, Mindwardens and VLUUR in my experience). You only get 15 turns, you need to be active to keep the countdown from reaching zero, and the enemies have the usual 2k - 3k stacks, so rushing them is hard. How do you even win something like that?
tf is all this shit? How do I put things in build queue? Am I supposed to? Are there buildings or units I should be producing? How many planets do I control and how can I tell? Etherium's pretty fun, but turrets are a bit too strong, so it becomes a fight around a few territories so that you can either out-tech the enemy or blast his fleet.
Control the map, and you control lands and therefore can add more and more laboratories.Enough of them, and you can finally retire your buggies and infantry, and start to spam colosseus.

I finished the castle, but then I wanted to make a hero's monument or whatever it was called. Set it all up and it was something like 2k polished stone AND marble. I ended up dropping the save then, which is unfortunate because I didnt grab proper screenshots to make a little collage like my previous one, so it's kinda unfinished, I guess, despite winning
>>548498808There were also a couple other reasons I quit. One of the big ones was the x3 bug. Basically the food production was tied to the character animations, so if you play on x3 speed your pops will literally produce less food than on x1 or x2. Ridiculous bug. I tested it myself and did notice that I would fill out my stockpiles on x1 and start to run into hunger problems on x3.Also it didn't help that this specific run was around 700 pops or something, either, so it was really starting to chugI love this game, but there were definitely some problems with it when I played last. Not sure if they were fixed.
>>548499043Oh yeah, and also, at some point my fucking bridges just stopped working completely. The pops just would not fucking use the bridges and would walk down the cliffside right next to them. >>548441261>>548439612Compare this to what is happening right now with Visa and Mastercard deciding what you can and can't spend your money on.

I actually really like how the infernals crisis path lets you take a peaceful route. Basically if you’re playing infernals there’s no reason not to take to crisis path and get at least *some* good bonuses
>>548550973Does it not block guardians perk, custodian etc?
>>548551719Actually now that you said that, I think it does even if you go peaceful which sucks. But I feel like unlocking the ability to terraform new volcanic planets, getting extra resources from jobs, accessing a new, strong ship type that doesn’t cost alloys, while also having the crucible pump out 350 monthly alloys is probably good enough to outweigh those negatives
So did Paradox ever fix the lag problem in Stellaris or is it still a laggy piece of shit lategame? The only way I like to play it anymore is larping as a galaxy wide civilization with as many planets, megastructures and population as I can squeeze out with gigastructures. If I can't play it that way that I don't want to play.
>>548555178still get's laggy in lategame, supposedly it has to do with the sheer number of ships aroundthere's a mod called compact armadas that increases ship cost and strenght by a factor of ten, supposedly that helps
>>548526792>period gpu/soundcardHow hard is this to find?
>>548555830Might give it a shot. I don't really believe them about it being mostly ships though, I've done solo empire galaxy runs for maximum empire larp in the past with almost no fleets and still lagged to death.
>>548555178They have two dev teams, one optimizes backends, another introduces new layers of complexity, at the same pace.
>>548555931Depends on how powerful you want it. The most straightforward route is to find a business laptop a few years newer than the era of games you want to play. Old Elitebooks, Inspirons, Toughbooks, Thinkpads, etc. go for pretty cheap because companies upgrade and retire their work gear cyclically, so they're well-documented and have relatively abundant spare parts. Get a higher-spec model and install an appropriate version of Windows and you should be good. Stay away from gaming laptops because most people who buy those don't take care of them. The more involved route would be to go with a period-appropriate desktop, but that also gives you an overall better experience. Start with the "minimum" and "recommended" pc specs for the games you want to play as a baseline for what you're looking for, then either hunt down parts individually or find old towers from that timeframe as a jumping off point. Plenty of people sell their old desktops online or through FB Marketplace and they usually don't ask for much, since non-gaming desktops aren't perceived as valuable. Often they'll also have the monitors and other peripherals included, so it's pretty much as straightforward as buying am old laptop but with much greater upgradability.>t. thinkpad autist
>>548555931not very, cards up until like maxwell era (2014~15) had xp drivers, though you'll want kepler or older because they also dropped support for a bunch of legacy features like CSAA with maxwellAMD I think supported XP up until R9 2xx series I think, and has never to this very day dropped any legacy features, unless you really want to play that one game that had truform I guess.best part about these era of cards is even the shitty entry tier ones perform better than 7800GTX which was the fastest DX9 era cardany soundcard with hardware EAX support will do, most integrated audio actually still have this but just can't use it because MS killed it with vista. though quality from a dedicated sound card will obviously be better.
>>548543908the material pushing out from the oceanic rifts still push against each other and create subduction zones, there's just no drift
>>548544130gas "planets" are not planets thoughever, but a kind of proto-stellar objectall moons are planets, a moon is just a planet orbiting another planet. asteroids like phobos and deimos are therefore not moons. pluto is a planet, ceres is a planet, haumea is a planet, all "dwarf" planets are materially the same kind of thing as any other planet.what makes some of them expand like earth and venus while others fail and stay dormant I cannot possibly begin to tell you.
>enigmatic observers awaken>they don't actually do anythingIs this supposed to happen?
>>548499187I think they somewhat fixed pavers. Also performance improved a bit too.
>>548567516If nobody has pissed them off then yeah, the observers tend to awaken to deal with threats rather than returning to their prior glory.
>>548564325But if there was enough material pushing out from the rifts to create mountain ranges, you'd have those mountain ranges rising out in the middle of the rifts.
>>548564961>what makes some of them expand like earth and venus while others fail and stay dormant I cannot possibly begin to tell youThat's simple - it's heat. Notice how only planets closer to the sun expand. That's because planetary cores are made of yeast, so they expand when heated by the sun. Current dwarf planets are too far away to get enough heat.

>>548649496Yeah, that's the goal with this hexasphere setup. Gonna use it to form a lattice for WFC (waveform collapse) to allow growth of whatever style was chosen. Was originally just gonna use a hex grid like Civ and most other 4x, but that was boring and too easy. Gonna have a spinning planetoid, like Planetary Annihilation etc.The hex grid will be really fine (hopefully user can choose the density, but I have a few steps before that.
Anyone play whiskerwood? Just heard about it Looks cute
>>548652714looks like a shitty chinese imitation of the beaver game
>>548650576okay I need to tell you right away that making a full sphere with hexes is impossible. best you can do is a football pattern with pentagons at the vertices.
>>548653007Technically you can make a bipyramid of hexes if you can handle hexes being split on the edges, then you can inflate it into the shape of a sphere. When I tried my world simulation experiment a few years ago I found some good blogs of people who did the same thing and pic related is one of the attempts I found here https://forhinhexes.blogspot.com/
>>548654930based based based based based
>>548653007Yep, thanks. All the shapes in the image are the pentagons. All 12 of them. I'm familiar with that side of things now. The whole GP(m, n) thing is still fucky for me though (I get it, knight's move and all that, but it's still dumb how you have to adjust the position of the verts and how it can change the shape of the hexagons (apparently)). I'm just using n = 0.

>>548658127>Are any of the others as comfy?I only played Anno 2070 and 2205 and this one. The three of them were very comfy in their own unique ways. I would have liked that 2205 would have added more moon and space station stuff though. But it seems is the least liked Anno by Anno connoseurs, and my entry to the series was 2070 so what the fuck do I know. But it seems that like with Paracuck you gotta let it simmer into some DLCs before biting into it.

We just about cooking boys.Just gotta hook up some orientation code and they'll all align nicely.I'll get some tileplay prioritized first so it's actually interactive, not just some weird sphere thing. If you have any ideas for a 4x (small scope) feel free to chime in. Currently it's a terraforming god simulator with text based roleplaying elements (dialog and shiet).Apparently you will be able to sex a god too, but I dunno if I can do that justice.
>>548665817I love fucking elves.
>>548669704>Currently it's a terraforming god simulatorWhat kind of terraforming can you do?
>>548669704Considering you're a god, changeable axis of rotation for the planet. Make polar shifts great again.
Seriously? THAT few players reached the New World? Granted it almost took me 150 hours but still. I thought Anno veterans would rush through it at lighting speed.>>548669704That's neat.>If you have any ideas for a 4x (small scope) feel free to chime inSupply logistic lines like in Shadow Empire. What would it entail? Adding a loop for a script to check if the army has a A* to HQ/whatever and enough of certain supply variables? Adding a check to update the A* path every time a tile is changed? How does that even work Anon?
>>548670180Dunno yet. The anon that suggested it was pretty vague. I'm thinking the planet starts off craggy rock, and, depending on your god of choice, you can change the terrain as you see fit within the realm of your ability. The choice will then spread to nearby tiles etc. As I said before, there doesn't seem to be any conflict or objective yet, so hopefully we get some ideas guys in to think things up.It's a blank slate really. I just wanted a small project to do because I did. Also 4x is good. Been smashing Civ5 recently.
>>548670639most anno 1800 players are newcomers, it was shilled heavily in normie media like linus tech tips
>>548670639>Supply logistic lines like in Shadow Empire. What would it entail? Adding a loop for a script to check if the army has a A* to HQ/whatever and enough of certain supply variables? Adding a check to update the A* path every time a tile is changed? How does that even work Anon?Tie it in to terraforming/godhood somehow and I don't see why that wouldn't go in. Given that it's going to be grid based, A* will work, even though it's a sphere. Whether I can do it or not is another question entirely.I think the original suggestion was to have beasts and shit in the game, so that's a possibility. Just don't explode the scope of the game.
>>548671047No promises though.

>>548671959Well, it was in the suggestion here >>548478812. That anon (probably correctly) recognized it being out of scope, so again, no promises. Also, brainstorm something. I don't really have any idea where it's going. Don't ask me. Make beasts work somehow.I'm thinking there's gonna be two types of gods, nature and mechanical.Could make it a dinosaurs vs robots game? Who the fuck knows. Maybe it's purely terraforming, and it's nature A vs nature B? Maybe it's space vs planet?
>>548672586Also, I'm tired and I know I just contradicted myself in one sentence to the next. No need to point it out.
>>548670639Manola is an island from the New World Rising DLC, which not everyone has. New World by itself is included in the base game, and I'm sure more players reached it. 24,5% of players have the "Isabel Found" Achievement, which you get for tailing her to the New World in story mode. However, only 64,5% of players played in story mode (there's an achievement for completing the mission that teaches you how to control a ship), so the total number of players who settled in the New World should be higher.
>>548672586And how do you store the object that contains the world? LINQ? A dict of objects? Whatever other fancy thing C# has?>>548673502Is the campaign worth it?
>>548674816that's the sort of thing a game engine takes care of for you>LINQ, dict of objectsjesus christ this is why business programmers should never touch games
>>548673502You always want to normalize achievements to one of the early achievements to see how many people actually played the game at all (or with achievements enabled). Like the 24.5 normalized to 64.5 is 37% which I mean isn't a lot but it's still pretty good number of people playing hours upon hours of a niche game.
>>548674816>Is the campaign worth it?The big difference is that you get a static map layout, instead of a randomly generated one, story-related tasks which don't really do much, and twice through the whole story you get a Pyrphorian attack, which you can just avoid and build up your fleet first. The final (and only) boss is especially a joke, since he can't move, but gets outranged by battlecruisers.

>>548674816>And how do you store the object that contains the world? LINQ? A dict of objects? Whatever other fancy thing C# has?As the other anon said, that's something that's largely abstracted away by the engine. It'll likely come down to how Unity stores objects in the scene file, and it'll do so using C++ or C (I don't know what Unity was written in).The lowest level users of the engine are concerned about is objects in the heirarchy/scene, and references to those objects in their scripts.LINQ is just a functionality set of C# that lets you serach/sort containers with more flexibility that's, as far as I understand (I haven't profiled it or anything) not very well optimized for games/realtime usage. Again, I haven't tested that myself, so it could be old news and modern hardware is able to pick up any slack on LINQ's end. I don't use it though.>>548695924lol, never trust anyone in Civ. Henlo frensBeen a while since I've postedJust wanna let you know that I recently got the hidden deed "arckmage's challenge" in against the storm, meaning I won a game on prestige 20 without cutting down a single tree. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be to be quite desu with you. Here is a pic and here was my strategy>first, spend a cycle winning games to stockpile reserve embarkation points, as well as any other cycle bonuses you can get (this is important for the speedrun and extremely lucky deeds also btw)>settle a bamboo flats near an abandoned library>prioritize human settler caravan. Humans are important because of food production and slower impatience growth>choose the small farm, delivery lines for incense and ale, and then choose delivery lines for whichever other species is in the caravan. Then, oil and coal, and packs of provisions for some early trade>the absolutely optimal set up is Humans, Foxes, and Frogs. If you have these three, you're basically garunteed to win. This is because with a small farm and rain collector, you have infinite porridge, which all three of these guys use. They also all use incense, so that's why incense should be chosen before any other service good delivery line>that being said, you dont get to choose this exact one. Mine, personally, ended up being Humans, Beavers, Bats. Which totally threw a wrench into my porridge plan, but I also had wine delivered so the Beavers were satisfied. I still won pretty handily with these 3, thus in an unoptimal way, so it appears you don't need to be so autistic about it afterall>now, with the abandoned library, choose the press or druid hut as your free choice. This gives you a way to make infinite fuel (oil) from the wheat. You would otherwise run out of fuel immediately and lose right away>start taking care of the fluffbeak and get as many fertilizer to make roughly 50 plots on two or three farms. Get a plantation blueprint if it's available
>>548739353>you DO have access to some amount of wood. One single charge on every tree you have immediate access to. Be VERY CAREFUL to unmark them as soon as the guy starts cutting down the first charge, else you might find he accidentally goes back for seconds and FUCKS your attempt by felling the tree>you are essentially shooting for a pure resolve victory, which should be relatively easy to set up. By the time you have your service goods buildings, you should have stockpiled about a hundred of them from the delivery lines>you should be able to complete some orders, but obviously you have to choose the ones that are completable without opening glades.>you should definitely build the stormforged altar and hope that you get good cornerstones from it. On this run, I actually didn't get anything THAT powerful, but some that are strong are rebellious nature and generous rations>i actually got two normal versions of generous rations this run, which is basically want garunteed the win without a struggle, as I had a free plus 10 to resolve across the board. I likely would have been able to win without it, but it would have taken a few years longer and been cutting it close>the final thing is just properly managing the wood that you have so you have enough for all your buildings and such. Space is obviously limited, so theyll have to do with big shelters for the most part. Buy planks every time you can afford them, sell shit you dont need, the usual stuff. It just becomes a normal game after a little bit.>nce you fill out the entire glade with crap, there will be basically nothing you can do but run through the years and hope that you've completed enough orders and gotten enough resolve to push you over the edge>you can also make use of rainpunk to boost resolve, but I didn't find the need for it on this run. Everyone was more than fineIt was quite fun and rewarding to complete this. Felt super good to see that secret deed pop up at the end screen
>>548740125I only have two secret deeds left, both of which require a similar amount of set up for embarkation points>feeling extremely luckyGetting both the homestead (1/15 roll) and the rainpunk foundry (1/24 roll) on the coastal grove>speedrunWin a game on prestige 20 before year 3 is overThis one basically requires playing on the scarlet orchard and rushing the three archeology sites IMMEDIATELY, as well as hoping that you will find 6-7 points of rep in the glades, as well as hoping you get good luck with the orders and can complete the first 7 easily. I did all of the previous two posts for a main menu skin by the way... Looks nice...
>>548739353Congrats? I don't play the game but I'll assume it's very difficult.
