>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as A Hat in Time, Animal Well, Baba Is You, Balatro, Battle Brothers, Cave Story, Celeste, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hades, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hotline Miami, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Monster Train, Noita, Nuclear Throne, OFF, OneShot, Rain World, Shovel Knight, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, The Witness, Void Stranger, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

I can't believe I missed a "hurr durr, not a roguelike" post. As always: The overly narrow definition of roguelikes that the genre started out as, has been phased out. Just as we don't call shooters "doom clones" any more, just as we stopped calling MOBAs "DotA Clones".
The Berlin interpretation can fuck clean off, too. Here's the truth: Language works by a common understanding, not by hyper strict definitional rules. And in that sense: roguelike has simply become a term to encompass all "run based" games, where if you die you start over, likely with some amount of randomization. If it only has slight elements like that, people say "X with roguelike elements". What your picture is talking about, people now call mostly classic, or traditional roguelikes. This is also a good thing, because who wants a genre with zero innovation?
>but anon the term is so broad! It could encompass!
Shut the fuck up.Sometimes genres are not very descriptive and operate on "I know one when I see one" rules. The fuck's a beat 'em up? You beat up people in every game? Adventure game? Point and click? You mean like Call of Duty?
I actually feel you a little bit. I was one of 5 people wanting to call DotA clones "ARTS", short for action RTS, because it combines ARPG controls with RTS gameplay and objectives (destroy enemy units and bases). But guess what? Riot was mad that people called their game "dota-clone" so riot came up with MOBA, and because League was the biggest game in the world at the time, that term stuck. And neither of us are gonna be helped by insisting on the terms and definition WE think is superiour, because they fit a narrower description of the type of game, while everyone else has an entirely different understanding.
It's over for ARTS, it's over for "roguelike" to just be Berlin interpretation classic roguelikes. Every game that is technically a rogue-lite, gets called a roguelike by a majority of people. You just have to accept it.

What's the fastest way you guy achieve 100 million hand on Balatro? Was thinking of just going Plasma deck hoping to get lucky with kings of hearts without some replay cards and no chip cards?
>>
>>548252106
You only need a score of 20k to get the 100m required with plasma (10k x 10k is 100m) so it's not that hard.
Mime with steel card is easily doable. Sock and buskin with glass cards with double pairs, 256x before other bonuses so you only need 80 multiplier or a few x multipliers to get the 100m. If you don't skip, that's very possible to achieve by ante 4.
White stake obviously because higher stake is not required. Avoid skipping unless the reward is extremely good.

Alright, so focus on mime with steel cards or sock and buskin glass cards, I'm assuming try going to for double pair hands on both?
>>
>>548252106
Honestly just play the game. Trying to go into endless mode will get you hands that quickly go into scientific notation.
The trick is xMult, lots of them. Multiplying your multiplier over and over will quickly make your score go crazy, way to do this include but aren't limited to, Steel cards, Glass cards, various jokers, the Observatory voucher, and so on.
>>
>>548257948
I forgot to mention but retriggers are always going to be a big key. Hack, Sock & Buskin, Dusk, Mime, red seals on your playing cards, things like that go a long, long way to getting insane hands.
>>
I just had a random seed with baron, mime, blueprint, brainstorm and ghost. And I somehow managed to fuck that up at ante 16 by forgetting to reset a shuffle joker boss blind. Sucks too because I had 2 free negative tag.
Seed if anyone is interested: YV9CL7ME
You can likely naninf on that one with plasma.

>>548249814
I'm sorry I still play games that are like rogue and don't appreciate fags polluting the pool with their metaprogression sloppa and will fight to the death to keep the line in the sand.
>>
>>548259360
Brother, while you fight to defend that line, everyone else is 20 miles past that line having a party, dying, and then crossing that line 10% faster thanks to meta progression.
Again: it's not like I don't get where you're coming from, it's not like I don't have my own "this is the better term for it why is nobody using it?" battles that I've lost. But that's just the thing: You've lost already. It's done. You're defending the fort from enemies, that are already in the fort, fucking your lords wife. The term is what it is now. And you can still play gtames that are like rogue. I do too. We just both have to accept that people call them "classic roguelikes" or "traditional roguelikes" now, instead of just "roguelike". I mean, you can refuse to accept it, but you make just as much sense as demanding people to call Istanbul Constantinople, because for you it will always be Constantinople and all these newfags with their Istanbul can fuck clean off.
>>
>>548244758
Fuck you.
>>
>>548260398
Why do you care so much then that I give up? Does it validate your own surrender?
>>
>>548260576
Because ever since I have recognized that it's a fight against windmills, I'm off the mindset to help other anons see that it's a fight against windmills, ya know? I see a fellow anon being angry at something that has already happened, that won't be undone, and that importantly: is pretty standard (Again: a bunch of genre names are so generic that they can technically encompass a wide variety of game. Heck you could call online chess a MOBA, it's multiplayer, it's online, the board is the arena for the battle that you have with pieces). So I like to put my hand on their shoulder, say: "I feel you brother, I was once in this fight too, but it's over. You don't need to be mad at this any more. There is actually no harm being done. What we like, it's still there. It just has a slightly different name than it originally had. That's not so bad".
Because really what are we fighting for here? Who decided in the first place that a roguelike has to be EXACTLY like rogue, instead of having elements from rogue? Yeah that was our understanding, and to keep that understanding alive, when games that had elements but where not exactly rogue came out, people came up with rogue"lite". But guess what? Roguelite didn't stick. People still called these games roguelikes. So now that's what roguelike means. We still have our traditional roguelikes, our classic roguelikes, the original term having wider meaning now doesn't take anything away from us.
Yeah, they might have introduced new coke, and new coke tastes like ass. But guess what? We still have classic coke. So what's the problem? Be mad that it says "classic" now?
>>
>>548261161
>Heck you could call online chess a MOBA
that's why when you're discussing dota you should use the proper name for the genre: ASSFAGGOTS
>>
>>548261264

Never really tried a management game, at least none on a scale this small. I really enjoy it so far. Figuring out how to increase efficiency by optimizing by a few percent here and there is a lot of fun.
Currently trying to find a sweet spot of how many employees I need, so the tavern can run smoothly but still make a profit so I can afford decorating the place, it's a little quaint so far.
Also I feel like I'm ripping everyone off left right and center. Selling a single drink usually breaks even with buying a whole barrel of it and a single order or two is enough to pay off an employees salary. Being a capitalist sure is fun

Civ npc in hitman games tend to be absolutely braindead and act more like animated mannequin unless they are scripted, its how they can handle having a ton of them without eating a ton of ram or making the engine shit itself. I know its an older title, but I remember in Blood Money, in the Heaven and Hell level, almost all the npcs on the dance floor are so braindead you can gun the entire place down and they would barely react. While the new games work on an updated version of the Glacier engine, I hardly believe they finicked that much with the core that define npc behaviors.

Think of a hitman game less as a stealth game and more as a puzzle game, where the objective is the target, figuring how you go at it is the main attraction. Once you get that, the series really start to shine and every level turn into a playground, you arent supposed to find every possible way to complete the objectives in a single playthrought, and the items you unlock only provide different opportunities, so to speak.

The story dialogue is all skippable and doesn't really matter. The tutorials are all critically important and have less text than a single modern yugioh card. How does someone pick up a card game if they're terrified of reading short bits of text?

The more I play Cross Blitz, the more I'm starting to get it. The learning curve has been rough but I feel like I'm actually in control of what I'm doing now, and it's hype to have another ccg game where I'm building strong synergies without feeling like the game is ruined now that I know how to pull some cool shit off. Yeah I feel like it would have just been a better game with more of the stuff unlocked at the start. It is a massive game so I think the idea is that they don't want you overwhelming yourself, but it means early runs just feel kind of shallow. Why am I being offered the same couple relics over and over when there's way over 100 in the game? Just so I don't have to read as many early on?

Now that my relics list is long enough to actually use the scroll bar it feels a lot better to play. I don't see the same ones two or three times a run anymore, and I'm getting cooler synergies and actually understanding what decks might want each thing. I think this is my favorite one so far, I didn't get the point of death dice because it made things too chaotic in my first run, but now that I have a bunch of synergies that are like "get bonus effects for every death effect" it makes them very strong and I'm actually happy enough to see them that I don't want them sealed anymore.

Agreed it's a lot of meta unlocks. I've played enough Cross Blitz to realize what the noob traps are though so I'll share my tips on making the unlocks feel like they're barely in the way:

1. Currency is universal, not per character. It takes 2~ runs to unlock and get someone to 99% power. So stick to upgraded characters, don't play someone you just unlocked and didn't upgrade. You should probably upgrade the starter pirate deck first because it's simple, fast, and strong which makes it perfect for quickly unlocking more stuff without needing to learn your own deck as you play.
2. Focus on getting characters to 99% full power. That means buying their relics, cards, and then buying some HP until you can buy their first Ultimate card. Relics and Ultimate 1 is top priority.
3. Do NOT buy their 2nd Ultimate cards early. It's as expensive as a character unlock and it's like 50/50 on whether it's a sidegrade or a gimmick option. They add tons of replay value but are not needed early on.
4. Do NOT max the health on anyone early. It doesn't make a big difference, since 95% of the time if you're winning you take very little damage.
5. Do your bounties (blue note spots then red note battles) every single run. You have 3 per boss and the sooner you unlock more relics/trinkets, the sooner you get the variety that makes the game shine imo. If you already did all 3 in a zone it's a pure cash for faster meta progression. You don't even need to win the run for unlocks to count.
6. Don't forget to try The Hollows daily/weekly runs. Probably way before you buy anyone's 2nd Ult or max HP. It has it's own currency and unlocks. The way the game scores you is more fun in Hollows than in normal runs imo. If you wait too long you'll realize you have everything unlocked but the Hollows stuff, and it'll suck to grind it out when you could have been doing a Hollows run a day and been almost finished already.

Oh shit, yeah, these aren't TS2's mamluks, these are TS3's.
Sorry, I have like several hundred hours in TS2, and like only 50 in Future Perfect.

The whole gang got a visual upgrade. TS2 splitter, well there wasn't really a whole lot to do for him, but the TS1 splitters are fucking horrifying. If I had played 1 as a kid, they probably would've given me nightmares.
Neat to see that the 'Timesplitters are bioengineered humans' plotline wasn't just from FP though, even though TS1 didn't have a plot at all.

Yeeeeeah that was my exact reaction. From the wiki
>It appears that this TimeSplitter is a younger, more recently formed 'Splitter. One can see that there are pieces of a dismembered human stuck to this 'Splitter, suggesting it formed inside of a living human host before growing to its full size, shredding and killing its host in the process.
And I thought the Hybrid Mutants from FP were fucked all the way up.
>>
>>548373834
Good lord. Splitters are like Xenomorphs or Wasps.
Y'know, same as you, I'm glad I started with Timesplitters 2. As if the dam level wasn't nightmarish enough already with these monsters...
>>
>>548365721
Mostly the new level types are the big change...I think the DLC is overpriced for what it is, but if you got to a point where you're thinking "I want to keep playing the game but it would be fun to have some totally new levels", they might be worth buying. Most people enjoy the Frogs at least.

I think almost everyone hates Bangkok and the only reason it's not the most hated is because Colorado exists.

I played literally thousands of hours of the WoA trilogy but I think I'm kinda done with it now...I could maybe go back and play the H3 levels again, and Hokkaido will always be great, but I really just played everything to death.
>>
>>548375958
I dread the moment I'll try Colorado. My modus operanti is to go tourist>civilian servant>security>bodyguard, but new Hitman made a fine job of complicating things: sometimes a "lowly" cook or bartender can avoid suspicion and get unique opportunity, while bodyguards can walk without problem around the place but will have to avoid other bodyguards.

Man, Void War is actually really good. I can't believe I'm enjoying playing FTL again. It seems like the designers accurately identified everything that sucked about the game they ripped off and made an objectively superior version. I didn't even know I wanted this.

I had fun with hitman, but I wasn't a fan of the selling episodes individually shit. In the end what I did was just endlessly grind out Paris and got really good at it, and never bought or bothered with the other missions.

For me, the mission I played the most was the Italian one, I really liked it, but I watched Utopia so I'm curious as to what the story is.
Also I'm pissed that I got new Hitman 1, then I had to buy World of Assassination, and I still get ingame ads for the current DLC.

Fair and valid, though I will say I did enjoy my time with that one mission, and from what I've seen of others playing the game I wish I'd had Sapienza and Hokkaido too along with Paris.

I think it's wiki/ walkthrough time for Fear & Hunger. Sad. I feel like they could have made shit just a little more straightforward.
>Table with gods: you are allowed to ask 3 questions/ topics.

>Some weird Resident Evil chess puzzle you're not allowed to participate in cuz you're "not strong enough"
