No matter what people say FF7 DID feel like a early 2000s game and that's what made it so good. The whole oppressive nature of it, the mysterious foreboding with the Cloud scenes, the focus on identity, capitalism, environmentalism. It's all great. I'm playing remake/rebirth now and it's pretty downplayed here more for character building which is fine. but less is honestly more and making everyone more into netflix-ish anime tropes felt like a miss to me imo. I miss the mood of the original.

I'm trying to remember the backgrounds for the slums in OG VII, and surprisingly, a lot of them have actual lightning. Not just the ones with Aerith, in the church or near her house, but also the weird part near wall market.It really irks me to acknowledge it because I think it's a bad idea, but it seems that the underpart of Midgar isn't constantly sunless.
