After finishing ATOM I have been graced with a newfound appreciation for Fallout 1 and 2. It's really impressive how their general design is strong enough to hold up this pile of shit. Nearly every "original" idea ATOM team had turned out to be a failure. Plot? Dogshit. Characters? Memes. Locations? Empty. Enemies? Rats. They've even managed to shit up mechanics: the perk tree is all kinds of wack with its costs, weapons do wildly random damage higher than what's listed, resistances below 100% might as well not exist, hunger is fully invalidated by the amount of food you get showered in. I cannot express enough contempt for the writing, from the very beginning you're drowning in references, to the point where the fucking tutorial opens with a direct Morrowind quote. Dark and serious slave trader quest is right next to a popular TV host selling his signature cars, cynical gangsters are hosting a guy from a classic Russian comedy, there's even a horrendously tedious WH40k quest. Between all that shit the main plot is happening that is incredibly hard to give a fuck about. Who seriously cares that your home organization is infiltrated by a cult when you don't interact with them the entire game? Who would even give a shit about a generic mass mind control big bad? Hell, even the 11th hour reveal falls flat. Fuck this game and because I'm stupid, I'm gonna try Trudograd and see if there's any improvement.
