Around 100 arguments about AI happen on agdg alone EACH DAY.
About 700 arguments in the week around your bait.
AI webm? Low effort social media repost? BOOM thread's done.
Also, not only are you having to deal with every retard that has no game, but the entire backlog of faggots who asked a chatbot to do something for them and it made something better than they could because they're unskilled retards :)

Take all the "thread success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of AI obsessed faggots in agdg who post constantly about AI (again, 100 arguments a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "having a good thread."

Blackpills, 2 weeks, Grok is the closest thing they've had to a gf, AND to top it all off: None of the people who claim that AI is going to take over ever seem to have used it to make a game. If you successfully win this "mediocrity lottery" by baiting the thread into arguing about AI you'll have to so it all over again the next thread

>He thinks that we can just have a thread about gamedev in 2025

Let me guess. "Eric Barone" is gonna add some meta-ironic comment about getting exposed as a fraud to this year's Christmas post. Almost like he constantly lurks here like a schizo with no life. They're not public, but they can be estimated based on other data. https://gamalytic.com/game/4241390 shows you at
>Outstanding wishlists: 756
but that's usually a slight underestimate, so I just guessed 1k.

Typically, you want to accumulate wishlists BEFORE you do Nextfest. Nextfest is a wishlist multiplier. If you enter with 1k, you can expect maybe an extra 500-1k wishlists. If you enter with 100k, you can expect an extra 50k-100k wishlists, so it's best to participate in the Nextfest closest to your actual release date.

For this kind of game, I'd expect lots of stat sheets and tables. I'm not sure really what your plans are, but based on the description on your Steam page, this game is massively overscoped, and so far, it feels like you have less than 10% of the features you describe the final game having. Your trailer is just a fake cinematic visual mock-up and doesn't show any actual decipherable gameplay. The only thing that shows anything resembling gameplay is the very last gif with the hexagons, and even that's not showing any actual combat.

Unless you have a very skilled team of developers with at least a decade of experience and several commercial games under their belts, there's no way you finish a demo in just 2 months.

Oh good to know, I probably am overscoped but just because UI isn't presentable yet, doesn't mean it's not there. I don't make mockups, that was gameplay with the crappy old renderer. I might not make the deadline but I don't know, I work better under this kind of pressure.
I recommend other devs here put a hard date for miletones or you'll be 'perfecting' some stupid aspect like I did for months.

I hired an artist; she made basically everything you see in those cutscenes. As you can see, she's insanely talented. And the craziest part is, I didn't even ask her to make the characters so sexy. She just did it on her own. I was genuinely surprised when I saw Willow's bounce.

Yes, Acerola stole his identity from Monogatari. You can tell by the way he edits his videos, also his logo has bats.
>>
>>550682418
It looks like a mock-up. There are several cuts in it that make no sense from a gameplay perspective. How did you squeeze the camera into a building to order the units inside? How did you manage to precision command the units to line up at the window and crotch for cover? Through what system did you order the aircrafts to flyover and engage? It all looks completely fake and scripted, and there's no real implication of any gameplay challenge yet. You're so caught up on showing cool visuals that you forgot to show any interesting gameplay mechanics. "Order units to go forward and attack" will be fun for all of 5 minutes at most.

I'm also an advocate for deadlines, but IMO you're setting yourself up for failure. A playable demo will require essentially 100% of the game's systems completed, and for a game like this, that's basically 80%+ of what you need to make for the game, with the remaining 20% being additional campaign maps or whatever content you have planned. You've basically given yourself a "finish the whole game in 2 months" deadline, which is just unreasonable. Use shorter deadlines for smaller tasks instead.

I can do this all day, units have indoor pathfinding, they crouch and stuff according to morale and stance. Sorry for low quality, trying to fit under 4mb.
Now I did make a mistake for making a cinematic for an unknown IP but the UI wasn't in a presentable state yet.
If your definition of a mock-up is doing video cuts in a cinematic, then I don't know what to tell you. And there's nothing stopping me for doing a gameplay trailer later.
About deadlines, you're probably right, I should move it back, but I'll try to no-life this for a bit first.

Yes, is realtime but without the focus on actions per minute. You can pause and give careful orders and it's slower paced and larger scale than stuff like Gates of Hell. It has an operational/logistics layer for the campaign in full 3D so you know what terrain you're going into for battles. Closest game is Graviteam Tactics but with more intuitive controls and sensible UI.

What exactly is the reason behind this phenomena? It's not just this place, even reddit would have likely said the same thing.
Even Zukowski was saying card games/deckbuilders are all dried out in the current market and you should make something else...right before Balatro hit. And he isn't an average person but a professional.
So why are people bad at recognizing successful ideas before they become successful?

one only has access to one's own perspective. that said, universality exists within the human experience. that's why level goes up in games. you can't make a game where level goes down and you get weaker as you play.
everything that exists in the world and every thought you have is defined by the human perspective and experience. even fantasy or scifi or any concept ever, is based on real life experiences. I believe thinking about that with intent gets you closer to understanding media, why we view them, why we like them, and consequently, the nature of their pull or, appeal.

Reminds me of that thing, the Nintendo Seal of Quality. I'm assuming it was to make sure game's didn't enter their ecosystem that were either one or both of
>(A) didn't fit their systems desired game types
>(B) weren't just the equivalent of asset flips

To really drive down saturation in gamedev it's going to have to be years of concentrated effort pushing people out of the gamedev market on multiple fronts to the point this only seems achievable under special situations such as a recession or depression on a global scale. Cause otherwise
>variety of gamedev youtubers inspiring people to enter gamedev
>game jams and their affiliated discords making it look lively and fun
>the knowledge that a few indie devs got rich and that they assume they're built different than the majority and can also achieve riches
>the knowledge that if you live in certain countries that the amount you can make from a game can outclass waging

I mean come on half of the reasons are just an obvious loneliness masked with an excuse. Just look at how they treat their parasocial relationships, do they really care about gamedev or even games? Or are they just there to bond with a youtuber and their fellow lonely commenters all while using gamedev/games as an excuse? How many of these are the same people that would call gamers losers just a decade ago? It's likely that same type of person who freaks out about staying in and "needs" to go "out." Fix that problem and the first two green texts on gamedev youtube, game jams, and discord is utterly resolved. The last two require something bigger, a global depression where even 1st worlders aren't going to be buying their (3rd worlders) games and times are too tough to gamble it on gamedev.

It was about making sure they actually functioned than the actual quality of the game.
And now no one wants to force valve to play games and pick them based on some arbitrary quality standard we just want blatant scams and asset flips off the store. There shouldn't be developers with hundreds of games releasing a year but there is and it hurts everyone. Hell Valve actually let non-functioning games and malware onto the store for years before they were forced by the Australian courts to allow refunds. That's horrible.

If a game is good, it'll make it despite the art not being great (still okay, still competent).

I was discussing of this exact argument with my boyfriend at the time and his argument was that Steam had to hoard as many games as possible because if it didn't then those game would have passed to the competition and that would have hurt the store.
No matter how many times I tried to explain to him that these kinds of games are so crap that no one is going to buy them and no store is going to benefit from them, no, he kept insisting that hoarding shitty games was essential to keep Steam running and first in place.
Hell, even fucking Borderlands IV becoming EGS exclusive didn't damage Steam, what can these kind of games do in terms of damage to the store? Anyway, I left him after he started pitching to get matching tattoos (disgusting).
