What a bizarre patch story that ended up being. I think a common criticism of Penacony and one that I agree with is that it was both resolved too quickly and was unnecessarily long-winded on certain parts. I feel like even within their budget they could have condensed some parts and expanded others and told a much more satisfying story in the exact same amount of time. But for their idea of addressing that to be recapping the entire story a year later so they could finally do something with all those plot threads they left dangling, you could only pull something this brazen in a live service game instead of just writing the story normally from the beginning. When you do it this way it's hard to shake the feeling they're just going down a checklist of all the stuff they didn't finish writing before, expecting people to think "Ah, so that's why that happened that way." like it was a masterfully written story planned out from the beginning. And it seems pretty cruel to put another fan favorite character in a "not quite dead but tragically sidelined for probably a few years in real time" situation the very next patch after doing it to Cyrene.Oh well, at least they seem to be shifting over to doing everything Amphoreus style from now on, so say what you will about the writing, but the chances of anyone feeling they blew through the story too fast has decreased significantly after how they did it with Amphoreus.I can't really wrap my head around the reception to this game's writing anyway, every single patch since like Xianzhou has been stuffed with labyrinthine, flowery dialogue, and frankly the story only seemed shorter back then because they stuck the rest of it in optional sidequests which they don't do anymore.Yet it seems completely arbitrary whether people like or dislike a given patch's writing.
