I believe he's trying to show that the Heating Tower's 250% efficiency when burning flammable fuel allows it to pretty easily invalidate nuclear power. But I personally still find nuclear more convenient unless you're on Aquilo.
>>
>>551335039
>>551335874
The benefit of nuclear is that it uses practically no fuel. For 480MW, you're eating 16 solid fuel per second, that can actually deplete an oil patch over time. Or it requires a pretty big depleted patch with speed-moduled pumpjacks. If you're doing several GW, you start needing a green belt of fuel or more, which is now a whole can of logistics. Yeah it's not that hard to set up in the grand scheme of things but nuclear does not need it so it's still simpler. I made a tileable nuclear blueprint and expanded it to 2.2GW over time until I switched to fusion, and it was running the whole time on my first uranium patch, something like 8 centrifuges processing the ore and literally zero (0) kovarex processing for the entire game. And logibots (early game logicbots with low speed and unupgraded cargo, mind you) supplying the fuel.

And of course fusion basically invalidates both of those, except aquilo where you specifically need heat.

They're fun to put in the lead spiderton of a hit squad and shoot at particularly large nests but... yeah it's still a manual process... If you put a nuke in an auto-fire spidertron it generally won't go very well...

Also, you can put biter capture rockets in Spidertrons. It's not particularly useful but it's a thing that you can do...

I feel like there's the niche case of heating towers in Gleba/Aquilo maybe Fulgora for someone that wants to have self-sufficient planets. I personally think that's bogus as a platform perfectly capable of taking imports can deal with exports as well.
The other case would be someone who skipped/cheaped out nuclear and solar, as an upgrade to boilers, but you need nuclear for personal power so not much point there also.
I think the fact that heating towers makes power is most incidental (hence the name heating).

Anyway, nuclear is king.

only worms are probably worth it, and that's mostly a QoL that almost entirely gets negated by chemical
the molasses one is a fucking scam and I forgot what the other one is
retrovirus and cdna are just annoying to craft so I made a bulk craft of 100 of each but I made only 5 bees because I didn't expect it to bee this bothersome
I'll just make a batch of 20 and repeat if I don't get anything
>>
>>551352267
I only set my cdna to 1 stack of 100 and it made them and I picked it up when I needed it and it made another but yeah rng crafts can still fuck you
>>
>>551352713
I can understand automating moss and biosamples, but cdna, in the amount that it's needed is just on the order of 3/6 for every new plant/animal, so the idea was to just make a stack of the thing on the spot whenever I ran out, considering it'd last me a few hundred hours
bees seem to be the exception, not the norm

can i get a QRD on stormworks?
i started a career mode save and the first real mission asked me to go repair a small fishing boat, which i could never find
i am 99.9% certain it wasn't there or it had sunk
the waypoints on the map don't seem to do anything or help for navigating
the game tells me i can respawn my boat to put it back in place and refuel it, but i have to do this twice (first time makes the boat disappear completely) and it comes back with some fuel missing (only had 85%). the editor doesn't have a "respawn" button at all, only a "spawn" button, which says it'll cost $18k to "spawn" the boat but using it twice to respawn (??) the boat costs $0

is the career mode supposed to be jank shit and ignored or what the fuck is going on

A mysterious new post has surfaced in the Stormworks Discord, sparking speculation about its creator. The community is asking one question: was this made by /egg/? and was it released?

We wanted to know whether it was designed for a train or a boat, if it included a cargo selection system within the blue box, and most importantly who built it and what its intended purpose was.

CoI only has the supporter edition DLC with a bunch of cosmetic shit. They are still adding content and mechanics to base game.
Satisfactory is finished. It's the exact same factorio is in now, or was before the dlc release.
There are new eggs released very often
Comparing other eggs to factorio as a standard is dumb as it's an exceptional game, the kind of game that makes everyone in the gaming kingdom turn their heads around and travel to see what all the fuss is about, like bg3, or gta v or euro truck. Comparing them to factorio on the basis on polish is mega dumb as it's one of the most polished games ever, maybe THE most, as I'm genuinely struggling to find one more polished. And it's not even polish, it's czech
Count yo blessings, huwite male, other genres have it way way worse. Anyway factorio should go open source for 10th anniversary

The older I get the more I want to turn Christmas into just another holiday where I play Factorio all day. Every year, my crackhead family comes to my house for a week just to call me a failure.

>"Your decorations look like shit"
>"Why aren't you married? Are you gay?" (My fiancée died 2 years ago)
And this goes on and on. Every year, I just end up asking myself "Why do I pay over a grand to feed my family for a week when they'll just trash the place and complain the entire time?". Maybe it's a class divide thing. I'm just casting pearls before swines.

Anyway how was your Christmas /egg/?

>Have you leveled with them on how discouraging their complaining is?
That never works. The root of the ongoing toxicity and complaining is in practically all cases the fact that they're sociopathic or self-centered to the point where they're no longer able to relate to or place themselves in another's perspective. Literally asking them to do what they have already proven they cannot, is not going to be productive. It's just going to agitate them, rattle the cages, and produce more toxicity in return.

The only thing which is going to actually resolve it, is to take a firm stance that they can either "agree to disagree" and leave it at that, or leave and not return.

on the bright side family planning can be treated much the same as a successful factory with all the parts working together in tandem, if you're the family patriarch.
Mine refused to spend thanksgiving or christmas with me last year after I'd been out of town for half a decade as a teenager. It's not like I had a choice, and when I came back as an adult finally ready to meet my family as a real life person they wanted nothing to do with me, won't take my calls, etc. I can make assumptions why but I still don't know. So instead I made my much older brother go to AA meetings and got him off meth now that I'm back in town and I get to be the weird uncle for my neices.
Giving them life advice, cooking for them, cooking for my brother, helping them with jobs and their livelihoods and getting them to work together on things is like an engineering project- social engineering I guess but I just want them to live fulfilling lives and to help me feel fulfilled by actually being able to be surrounded by people I love on christmas and on thanksgiving, instead of getting ghosted by the people who were supposed to be my family.

>More MoteMancer
I'm using an old version from July off of TPB, and it seems impossible to leave the Plane of Water because I can't place any of the master crafting stations. It seems to me to be a bug rather than something intentional. If you are doing this, I recommend the Plane of Fire instead. One interesting thing I tried was putting a loop down the water portal so that I could feed it a life runestone from the other side. This does work, but it was still 1-way.

Something that wasn't very obvious is that it's possible to transmit power through the portals. But coming from the Plane of Life this is not very useful because on the remote side all the mote patches are too far away, and on the local side the portal is also likely far away from you. In the Plane of Earth you get Factorio-type powerpoles, but of course you can't use a building in its opposed plane.

The different little mechanics, power-poles, etc... they just don't feel as interesting as they ought to be. Not worth buying.

recyclers just spit out some probability of the ingredients, right?
no idea what you actually want out of it and this would be mega ugly, but you can just build an assembler, set its recipe manually or via signal, then read the ingredients from that assembler to get the recycler results
you'd also need the right assembler building (would need to do this with a chem plant to know the output of a battery)
it's either that abomination or just hardcoding whatever you want in constant combinators
which makes me think whatever you want is probably best done some other way, since that solution just sounds unappealing

Far harder and more complex than vanilla factorio. Fucking up and running out of maintenance is 10x worse than running out of power in factorio. I've seen someone do it before but I can't figure out the exact mechanism, how do I 'prioritize' sending common items to the left and the right of the splitters in this picture while sending excess common items and all uncommon, rare, etc items right down the middle lane? Every way I change it all that happens is it goes 'welp I filled up either X belt or Y belt completely and now I'm done' when what I need to have happen is overflow. Do I need two splitters for this? it's very very crammed but I can move the design around and make space.

FTD
HP per cost scores:
Heavy Armor - 60
Metal - 84
Wood - 240
This is fine for frag and explosive, those shred through wood.
But fast kinetic shells have plenty of AP, no sabot needed.
And lasers start at 40 AP, or 60 for continuous.
Excess AP doesn't do anything, and armor stacking only seems to check one layer.
Something needs to change.
I can't use 20 layers of wood without slowing the game down.

i wonder if you could automate that
first thing that comes to mind would be dr. evil tier rube goldberg nonsense:
>combinator logic that will have bots build logistic chests which request excess once some "need to destroy shit" signal is reached
>same combinator logic will turn on a bunch of machines that just waste energy and produce pollution
>situation this near a biter nest
>have artillery or a spidertron or a flamethrower turret nearby and rig the whole thing up such that the excess items are "coincidentally" destroyed as collateral damage due to your defenses attacking the biters you just provoked on demand

Does this actually check correctly? Wouldn't the red and green selection on the left hand limit the "each" signal to be "each (red)" and "each (green)" - thus never reaching the "= 0" state because there is no zero signal value?

The straightforward solution btw. is to use a selector combinator in count mode.
It outputs the unique number of different signals that is input to the combinator.
Follow that with a decider combinator to check if the value is "< 2".
That covers all cases of "not mixing fluids."
>>
>>551492080
That should vanish as it goes out on the wire.
>>
>>551509431
there's a picture earlier that shows it checking correctly for these cases, which should be comprehensive:
>two empty tanks: no
>one empty tank: no
>two nonempty tanks but mismatched fluid: no
>two nonempty tanks with matching fluid type at the same quantity: yes
>two nonempty tanks with matching fluid type of differing quantities: yes
the logic is very straightforward
>for each type of thing being input
>is that type of thing not zero on red
>is that type of thing not zero on green
>if both are true, then output some signal
it's also just one combinator, not a chain of a more expensive selector and then another decider

If anything quality engines are more useful for inner system travel because engines are hard capped by their thrust to width ratio, so a more powerful engine with the same footprint allows you to go faster than is physically possible with low quality engines. But speed is not that important either and also for outer system trips, damage quickly becomes the bottleneck rather than engine speed anyway

I'm unironically waiting for SA 100% speedruns. Base game 100% is fun to watch up until they start working on the 20M green circuits achievement which adds 2-3 hours of extremely boring and repetitive slog at the end of every single run; it's mildly interesting to see how this phase got optimised over time to drastically speed up production and runs went from like 9h to sub 5h, but it's still bloody annoying to watch.
SA is inherently a longer game and has no particularly grindy new achievements, and 20M green circuits is vastly, vastly easier to achieve now. The last achievement would likely be the one to travel far enough towards the shattered planet, that or the prom research if runs end up doing a deep run on their first trip without ever turning back and bringing back any prom to research with first, and watching speedrunners optimise a ship that can make it like 100Mm or whatever into the shattered space is going to be way more interesting than watching them copy-paste a green circuit churning module twenty times.

I could understand if it was my siblings who complained since they don't live anywhere near as close. But they don't. They're really glad not to pay for a hotel room. And it's not like anyone is sleeping on the floor, there are 2 guest bedrooms and the living room has several additional sleeping space, 2 sofa-beds and a recliner.

Now that I think about it, everything I complained about comes from my parents. My grandmother, my siblings and their kids don't actually cause problems. Maybe I should just tell them that they can go spend christmas and new year's eve alone together if they're just gonna complain about everything.

I just find pY fascinating. The progression from hundreds of generators producing a few dozen MW, to the three tiers of abstract fan blade icons producing incrementally more power and the current bulk of anon's power being made by just two generators, combined with how meaninglessly abstract the icon is if you don't already know what the building is, is amusing to me.

>ups
Unrelated, but I wonder if inserter clocking even helps in pY? It might improve the impact of large builds, but of course given anon's screenshot it looks more like death by a thousand cuts from a thousand independent small builds than any single large build that could be clocked to reduce inserter lag.

What do you mean by inserter clocking in the first place?
>>
>>551532003
When you connect inserters with circuits and only enable them when they're ready to swing. It's much more UPS friendly because circuits are multi-threaded, each inserter just waiting for the circuit signal is super cheap, and one circuit connection watching for the correct number of items to exist is much cheaper than having all inserters constantly scanning.
But it doesn't work for picking up from a belt (obviously) and also you need a separate circuit for every build, and while it's cheap, you still get a lot more benefit if you can clock a few big builds with tons of inserters slaved to one circuit than if you're slaving together like ten machines and you have 2000 independent builds.
>>
>bought Kaizen since it's supposedly a spiritual successor to Zachtronic games

>>
>>551532642
Well he's wrong
It already was a viable strategy even in 1.0, and I think multithreading the circuit networks happened in 2.0 (I might be wrong though) but either way it's objectively the superior way to build endgame factories. At least in vanilla because like I said I'm not sure how useful it would be in pY builds, it also requires the machines to be synchronised obviously so if your build isn't running at 100% capacity the clocking will be off.

i got like 80% of the way through it and got bored. the challenges got repetitive quickly and i felt like they were more tedious than difficult--there is no win condition requirement other than to just "make the right shape": you can use as many parts as you want, as much time as you want, and as much space as you want, as long as the end result shape matches the spec then you win and get to pass to the next level, which i don't like. making the later-game shapes is sort of challenging but the solutions still get silly if i can put a billion rails and riveters and cutters everywhere with nothing stopping me, other than perhaps my ego if i land happen to score low on the histogram, which i don't particularly care about. perhaps if you're one of those people who cares about histograms then the game would be fun for you, but for me personally i would just like to play a normal game where it's the developer, not the player base, who decides what's good enough to constitute an actual win condition.

So it's the new victory screen, you are spouting bullshit and my original post was correct

>and the other new victory screen which is for when you win space age
They were both released with 2.0 and are the exact same age you absolute mongoloid chucklefuck, they are both the new victory screen.
They are also the exact same victory screen, space age just uses a different image (a stock spaceship instead of the stock rocket) and I think slightly different text ("you have beaten the game by launching a spaceship to the solar system edge" or whatever), otherwise it's the exact same screen and is THE new victory screen, contrasted with the stats-based victory screen from 1.0.

>>
Is there any reason whatsoever why personal roboports don't have a bot inventory
Why the fuck do I have to manage 139 bots in my inventory when literally nowhere else in the game do bots need to live in any chests/inventories outside of roboports (except when being transported for some reason)
>>
>>551555635
probably because it would be very awkward to have a separate inventory-in-a-submenu-in-a-submenu?
>>
>>551555903
How often would you need to fucking edit it though, you place your bots in there once and it only ever becomes a problem if the die for some reason
In a pinch, equipping a personal roboport could add a separate column alongside the three gun slots, allowing you to place robots into an "ammo"-like slot. But IMO that's not even really necessary

It would be way less awkward than having bots constantly leaving and entering my inventory, interfering with my inventory management, being unable to dock inside my roboports when my inventory gets filled from deconstructing a lot of junk, etc.
>deconstruct a big build
>paste it two tiles over
>bots are deadlocked because my inventory is full so they're just stuck forever holding bits of the partially deconstructed stuff, never being able to start constructing the new pasted version
This problem should never happen, and it doesn't happen ever with normal roboports, only with personal ones.
>>
>>551556479
>How often would you need to fucking edit it though, you place your bots in there once and it only ever becomes a problem if the die for some reason

Precisely. The player inventory is not a "robot chest" if you want to be reductionist that way. You place several "personal robot chests" into your inventory but for some reason they have no chest capacity and instead you have to use your main inventory (which is again, not a "robot chest")

bots are shit at moving items in any significant quality consistently
vanilla doesn't even have battery research, just speed, and all it does is increase the % of time they spend charging at roboports that have very few charging spots and shit charging speed, a belt is moving it's items forever, a bot base will eventually hit a recharge wall that forces you to rebuild and spread shit around more to add extra parking lots, uh I mean roboports

for vertical you need (sensor * -1) + 90deg, aka 90deg - sensor
you can fuck around with the orientation for horizontal(placing the panels and sensor while looking the same way won't align them right)
however, i made a horizontal offset too, so it's less fucking around with re-linking
it also lets me offset +0.5deg to get an extra couple watts per panel

>it also lets me offset +0.5deg to get an extra couple watts per panel

I’m refining my steam engine’s furnace box. I added a PID, and it’s been a while since I last used one of these.

I need to invert the output, but right now I haven’t figured out how to determine the diesel burn rate. This PID will be used to control the variable valve next to it for the air intake.

>materials are prepared
>dump normal inventory into chest and pick up all the building materials
>don't forget to not dump your robots or go back and pick them back up manually from one of the four chests with all your stuff :)))))))))

Just off the top of my head.

>can't be solved with the tools the game gives you
Everything can be "solved" but solving a problem takes extra effort and is what I'm complaining about.
There is no completely automated solution to ensure that you always have exactly the number of needed robots in your inventory no matter what. If the game had a "super logistics request" functionality that overrode everything else no matter what AND automatically calculated the number of roboports in your armor, adjusting as you rearrange your armor, maybe that would solve it. But pending that there are guaranteed to be times when the robots in your inventory get in your way and require manual management.

Really, personal reactors don't take fuel and bots are super cheap so it wouldn't even be unthinkable for personal roboports to come pre-filled with bots. The only issue with that is that it would make it impossible for bots to die, but bots returning to the inventory is already kinda cheesable in that you can bypass charging requirements by manually picking them up, so making it a bit more cheesable seems whatever.

300 bots cant do crap.

Speaking of bots, is there some kind of locality thing to them? I dont understand how they actually work or where they "live."
I suppose I can always just get tons more or speed upgrades and carry upgrades for them, but that seems to be the brute force way to improving them
>>
>>551671771
>Speaking of bots, is there some kind of locality thing to them? I dont understand how they actually work or where they "live."
Bots live in robotports.
The green box is where construction bots service, the yellow one is for logistic bots.
Bots share the same "house" (logistic network) as long as the yellow boxes overlap (it draws dashed lines between roboports).
You can have different logistics networks.
>>
Why are the serbians having so many problems surviving on vulcan? Seems pretty easy to me.
It's day 28 and I still didn't feel the need to deploy a cooling solution or h2 combustor. The arc furnace degasses at 0C so that's free gas for pressurizing the base.
>>
>>551671771
What the other anon said, but also after finishing a task they'll just go hibernate in any random nearby roboport so if you have alternating major construction requests on opposite sides of your base, all your bots will migrate to each side every time for example.
It's not really a big problem worth solving in most cases, but you can set robot requests in a roboport and then it try to fill itself with at least that many bots, so if there's a construction or logistics request on the other side of the base that pulls all of the bots over there, once it's done some are going to go back to refill the roboport's request rather than just sleeping in nearby roboports on that far side.

Honestly speaking doing this for mk2 animals is retarded since they require basic components over and over and they're half the chance, but for the arquad queen?
It really just saves you a ton of overhead.
The queen assembly TURD exists, yes, but If I can just choose the "give me everything x5" turd instead I'll just take that.
Also it means that now I have the means to just set up the area to automate another couple of these without having to rely on creature chambers to make sure that whatever happens that 0.5% chance isn't a catastrophe.

i assume it's because we are using liquid /pol/ as the main source of cooling instead of using AC's

trying to make make a constant 20C thermal battery where it fills up with liquid at night and evaporates it off during the day, but am experiencing some troubles:
windows shatter at 300kpa and /pol/ is liquid at several MPa, is there any way of using a sealed off room as a gas/fluid tank? i like seing the orange visibly pool up instead of being just numbers in the pipes
you can't connect fluid pipes to AC's, so actually heat exchanging to the battery seems like a pain in the ass

>if you are using air conditioners but still can't get below 65 degrees, you are doing something impressively wrong. post a save and maybe someone can try to diagnose/troubleshoot

>TL:DR
without using air conditioners, to cool a room on vulcan with "just liquid pollutant" you need to make a sort of multi-stage (5+) joule-thomson cryocooler, which is what pic rel is. this is very inefficient, bulky, and not simple
or you could just use air conditioners

206K cost for 37 firepower.
(It abuses spinblocks pretty heavily.)
But it goes 201 m/s on the map.
It's still not as accurate as I would like, not sure if that's due to enemy craft wobble messing with the AI, or weapon inaccuracy.

I did make a cheaper craft for hunting fliers (41K), but it's a little unstable and has to be piloted and aimed manually.
It also has only one layer of armor.
Cost effectiveness is hard to beat though.
This also abuses spinblocks, most of my craft are dirty cheaters.
Though there is a limit to how much you can add relative to your ship.
Eventually you trigger a "subconstruct drag multiplier" that slows you way down.

Liquid POL + ACs is the way to go.
Draw in night air and liquefy the POL -> store in a tank -> evaporate while dumping heat into it from an AC cooling whatever you want cooled.
Stable temperatures and AC runs constantly at 100% efficiency if done right.
I'm working on a really good design right now based on that, might post a schematic of it later.

Each red or green wire stores and constantly outputs all information it receives to everything touching the wire. If a red wire carrying "A" and a green wire carrying no signal connect to the same place (such as a combinator), the information isn't shared. It allows you to make two distinct sets of information, even if they have to go to the same locations.

>>
>>551797726
Capillary action allows fluid to wick upwards against gravity in a sponge-like substance, which would add mass to it without needing outside energy, the substance would become heavier and perhaps drive a mechanism of some kind. on the return trip it would be shedding mass as it drips and evaporates it's load.

I dunno it's the kinda shit you imagine when you're bored out of your mind during a lecture in high school.

If the material were composed of a belt you'd need to have the removal side have different environmental conditions in which evaporation is faster than wicking. Which I guess is the sticking point.

At that point I guess you're already looking at a situation where you might as well just boil water.

Even though the big boi defense cannons have 80% accuracy, there mathematically is not an amount that you can build that will completely prevent slip-through.

The amount of damage that a can be caused by the occasional missed asteroid is minimal, unless it's a planet with Biter Meteors, in which case it's better to just build defenses than to trust that the place will always be sterilized...

explain
reading the AC's display, the number reports up to 14KW, depending on conditions
at steady state mine reported 5KW, and the heat exchanger also reported 5KW - are both those numbers wrong or are you preemptively warning me not to utter the heat transfer and power consumption at once, lest someone divide the two and lose their mind
>>
>>551836126
those numbers seem exactly right, i calculated that it seems ACs can do something around 6500 joules of perfect heat transfer per tick (2 ticks per second would make that 13KW, i may be a bit off so our numbers may be the exact same) at 100% efficiency
this information can be upsetting for some who frequent here because of the cognitive dissonance formed when you also take into account that the stationeers server has, despite their best efforts, failed to cool a base for the entirety that it has been online with any amount of air conditioners (last time i checked, they were using 4+)

The pressure ranges in the game are off. Gas tanks can hold 60MPa pressurized gas while looking as flimsy as their 600kPa real life counterpart. Most atmospheric machines also don't have a concept of pressure differentials, so they move a constant volume of gas, ignoring the pressure on the other side that would make that process much slower with real physics.

traffic direction depends on which side of the rail stations/signals are placed on
easiest fix would be moving the red station to the other side, so traffic always goes counterclockwise

i checked with the network analyzer and it always reported 10W
another thing i found out is that if you're trying to run stuff with insufficient available power, it'll work with a 50% duty cycle, regardless of how much power is available
a transformer set to output max 10W will "power" a bunch of heaters and shit(normal draw 6kW, reported heat transfer 3kW), they'll just toggle between being on and off every second

I'm at 300hrs and have a trickle of logistics science cooking on the back burner, accruing and allowing me to push through a few of the techs to improve coal processing and allow better use of coal power to scale up power properly, to go through the niobium refining line, to get large power poles and allow me to build a proper wide-area railbase with proper power distribution, and to give me logistics bots in a logistics-based mall that can auto-construct all the building shit for me.

That's why I am using it.
99% of my PC's runtime is split between shitposting, streaming videos and playing vidya. As long as it can do those three things, I'm happy. The fact that I now don't have to worry about the egregious amounts of spyware in Win 11 is the cherry on top.
It took me 2 days to figure out why games wouldn't run when installed on my secondary NVME drive (I hadn't reformatted it after pulling it from my Win10 PC).
I still don't know how to stop making that drive appear as a removable device, and every reboot I have to go into Steam's settings to get it recognised as a viable library location, but that's for future me to solve after the new year
>>
>>551881324
>As long as it can do those three things, I'm happy.
see, the main issue is the playing vidya part
it's a perfect OS to read your mail, post on 4chan and watch youtube vids, but it lags behind in any other case

I'm currently sitting on 21, avoiding 22 and I'm going to check out 23 when it coms out next year, people have been shilling cachy pretty often so that's my second option
>>
>>551881603
Depending on what games you play it's even better than windows in a lot of cases
Sure, garbage that uses kernel level anti cheat won't be running on linux ever, but everything else just werks. Install steam and run everything through it with proton, pirated or bought doesn't matter.
>>
>>551881603
Not that mint guy but I reckon over 90% of my steam library runs on linux.
>>
>>551881603

I guess that I'm lucky, then.
I don't play AAA shooters, 90% of what I play is single-player, and everything I've re-installed works near-perfectly (after I solved the drive issue).
I'm sure that I'll eventually have ACTUAL problems (RIP all of my Total Warhammer 3 save data), but until then it does what I need it to do.
>>
>>551882053
I should add I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. If it doesn't run I just give up. Someone who actually knows how to tweak proton or wine should be able to run everything.

Stationeers, the plan isn't 100% up to date because i've been busy like hell but here's the most details I could put in. It should help the latest comrade who joined to grasp the situation and get something else to do than mining ores. A side note related to that, terrain deformation causes host anon's PC to slowly die from some memory leak and extensive mining eventually requires a server restart. Well the last update seems to have improved things like I havent seen any desync last session either... But to be safe if you need to disconnect, it's preferable to restart the game entirely.

Not on the plan are the two deep miners collecting coal and iron.

>6500 joules of perfect heat transfer per tick (2 ticks per second would make that 13KW
don't think this is the case, near 100% efficiency you can get 14kJ, and potentially more than that if waste and input aren't at the same temp
i'm assuming the dev is retarded and can't tell joules from watts, or perhaps intentionally put joules near heat to make mixing it up with electrical power impossible
multiplying the atmos scanner measurements by 2 just because it reports joules/halfsecond seems wrong, i'll call them watts anyway(or perhaps stationeers-watts, shortened to swatts)

what bothers me also is that the AC efficiency charts aren't plotted anywhere

i did say joules per tick
measurements in game though are probably per second, not tick, so double my joules per tick to get the game's... "joules" (should be watts) and your 14kJ (kW)

a stopwatch isn't nearly "autistic" enough:
use a tiny IC10 program to pressurize a single unit of insulated input pipe to some pressure and pressurize a single unit of insulated waste pipe to some pressure using active vents for exactly one tick
then turn on the air conditioner for exactly one tick
provided the output is one insulated pipe segment, it's now very easy to measure the exact energy transfer in exactly one tick
anyone who isn't doing something like this is just pointlessly guessing at how an air conditioner operates rather than knowing
it's even easier and simpler to do it this way

That's why I put up with Microsoft nonsense, the *only* actual reason for choosing an OS is for running your programs, everything else is secondary.
If there was a Linux distribution that ran .exe natively, Windows would be finished (I probably triggered some CS by saying that sentence). It's probably getting close with wine+proton, gonna figure out once I buy a new computer to replace my toaster.

Also something that Linux evangelists don't understand is that the moment you showed a command prompt to a user, you just filtered 99% of people in a snap.

Honestly I installed linux on my gaming PC a few months ago and I haven't had to use my command prompt for anything, except for the package manager and updates but that's because I chose an autistic distro (artix) and I'm used to updating over the CLI. From what I know Mint and the like have even that available graphically
And I'm like the anon >>551882635, for gaming specifically I really cannot be bothered to do any sort of deep dive debugging, I have never in my life touched wine/proton configs and I don't intend to. >I probably triggered some CS by saying that sentence
Yo! Random CompSci anon here.
You did indeed trigger, but not in the way you were probably expecting.

See, you're actually totally 120% on-the-ball correct.
Windows nowadays truly IS a stinking piece of half-malfunctioning privacy-invasive bloatware that is pushing useless AI services hard, and is waysiding every other concern as secondary. It has been doing this for some time now, and if you're active in software development you'd have noticed the cracks earlier (seeing as Satya firmly dropped the Balmer-creed "developers, developes, developers!" when he rose to power - actually; he pretty much SHAT on it) but they're becoming VERY visible to common consumers right about now.

Two things keep Windows going in the consumer segment.
One is the first-class support for all things PC-gaming vis-a-vis Linux, and it ties directly into the second one: the perceived inapproachability of Linux.
This is actually a footgun Linux does to itself, because of the way its ecosystem revolves around many disjoint distros that each have separate ideosyncrasies and each have separate communities that heavily, HEAVILY (!!), gatekeep 'normies'. The elitist, snobist neckbeard meme is sadly real. And it is the single most greatest impediment to more widescale adoption of Linux. In that sense Mint is a good distro for the general consumer, since one of its core tenets is to always be helpful and approachable to newbies. And if you violate that one a few times, you are (not-so-)kindly requested to GFTO and not return.
>>
>>551893395
>This is actually a footgun Linux does to itself, because of the way its ecosystem revolves around many disjoint distros that each have separate ideosyncrasies and each have separate communities that heavily, HEAVILY (!!), gatekeep 'normies'.
You say that like a bad thing. What is there to gain for neckbeards to let normies use their distro? They're deadweight. Only corporations want normies in their boat, as paying customers. Which is exactly what we observe: corpo linux distros moving towards OS as a service happy to welcome everyone and community built distros either building on the corpo distros or doing their own thing, with varying levels of gatekeeping.
>>
>>551892478

Mint has pretty much everything available graphically.
You require the shell as much as you would on Windows.
>>
honestly I'm still mad that mint 22 decided to bundle yt-dlp by default and keep it on a monolithic package for somethign that needs to be updated urgently every other week
the fact I have to follow an ubuntu ppa made by a random ass third party for no godforsaken reason because mint won't let you try to install it manually without actually digging into root (i.e. fuck shit up if you don't know what you're doing) is just asinine
That and the gpu crashes that only happened after 22 rolled out and that more than a handful of people reported in the forums without any explanation, which also broke my laptop in very specific ways and had me switch to cachy
I can't even blame cinnamon for that one because I specifically added cinnamon to cachy to test and it's been working flawlessly
22 is undercooked

Otherwise I don't disagree, but that's why I think Valve is important. SteamOS is "linux for gaming" and it has both the dev power AND, importantly, the mindshare and brand backing behind it to become a major name such that when normies think "hm what if I install Linux to get away from the Windows enshittification", will naturally just gravitate towards it as the default distro for playing games rather than getting bogged down in the traditional "ecosystem".

Mint is on a good path but it's still a volunteer project that's consuming ubuntuslop and trying to make it right (which itself is second generation debianslop) while simultaneously reinventing linux on the destkop for normies.
>>
>>551893395

I think moving the gas tanks outside would be better in any case, but not of the highest priority.
I really don't need a lot of space for the setup, like 1x5 frames outside adjacent to a wall and maybe 2x3 inside for all the cooling. We probably don't need that many filtration units either, just one for filtering vol + pol in case of base contamination and another one for oxygen would be enough, so that would save a lot of space. Biggest help would be preparing, disconnecting and dismantling the old spaghet quickly and sorting everything into lockers so I can start work on the new system.

Cooling, O2 and waste processing (shove it in a tank) is probably all we really need for the interim
If we need water (or emergency O2) we should be able to do traders

What is needed (roughly)
>3x3 for filtration
>2xX for water (maybe put it outside?)
>probably 2x3 (3x3? 4x2?) for (effective) cooling
Outside connections
>"cool" steam in
>~700L of liquid /pol/ @~110C (currently) in a closed loop (with 1 AC cooling purged vapor)
Inside connections
>botany water
>pure CO2 for botany
>waste (including tank dump)
>air mix (CO2/O2/N2)
>arc furnace gasses/N2 from the furnace

Most of the mess is shoehorning things in, especially where pipes must travel a fair distance

We do likely want to keep the design of the filtration, but add more pumps.
Another question would be if we put an AC between waste and filtration to give initial cooling, or if we go all in on cooling stored gasses

how about something like this?
i've been trying to think of a way to use /pol/ as a coolant but can't think of a good way to use phase transitions as a thermal battery
how much cooling power do we need anyway? looks like the water synthesis would be the biggest producer of heat, especially if we're cooling the oxygen and volatiles it's combusting
>>
>>551926438
>We do likely want to keep the design of the filtration, but add more pumps.
More pumps means more power dumped in there for most of the time no work. I dont have a single pump on my filtration setup on my save. Sure it's slow but I don't need to process that much waste at a time
>Another question would be if we put an AC between waste and filtration to give initial cooling, or if we go all in on cooling stored gasses
Same as above, power for nothing.
>>551926660
Phase change device act as a low consumption AC at the end of the line, you need the system to be below pol condensation point, ideally under 50C so you can replace the last AC at 20 with a condensation chamber. I tried to do that first AC at 999 but the results werent interesting enough. Free to try tho so long as you dont kill us all lmao
>>
>>551926660
>Phase change device act as a low consumption AC
it's 50W, as much as 5 AC's
even the single input stage AC can get to water freezing temps(but at a very shitty power rating)
i have 3 stages built compared to the 5 shown on the pic, and at night it moves 6-7KW(at 20C), which is why i added another 2 stages and a thermal tank

i think the phase change devices are only really useful if you're transfering 20+ KW of heat, since need need to fuck around with parallel AC's otherwise
