I believe a lot of people simply drifted away over time because it is hard to keep a fixation on a game that sees one update in 2 years. The lack of any news between July (I think?) and December in particular must have been a heavy blow to audience retention.I remember back in the day when TCOAAL was still new and Episode 2 was fresh it felt like Episodes 3A and 3B were going to be just several months away, but as the scope of the game kept expanding the wait become tiresome, and a year later we got only half of the Decay route (albeit with more content then I imagined Burial and Decay would have combined). I wouldn't be surprised if many people simply moved on to other fandoms and interests since.On a related note I suspect Decay being released first probably killed the mood for some people too. I personally know at least one person who refuses to play it because "Decay sux, I want happy Burial". It's kinda shallow but frankly I can relate to it to some extent, because seeing the characters you grew attached to wallow in misery isn't particularly exciting.
