Everything was resolved in the first game, there were no hanging plot threads or surviving villains to build a sequel off of. iX2 had fuck all to do with the game that came before it, it had nothing to do with Septima - an otherwise key characteristic of the very series that it's a spinoff of - and to make matters worse it didn't even take place in the same universe as its prequels.
