You spend so little time with that dogshit kit that all it serves to do is give players a bad first impression of the game. It's actually probably why I never bought the game for myself when I tried it the first time a few years back
I'm going to do it. I'm finally going to use another ranged weapon on zealot instead of the bolter, my beloved problem solver. Picked up a good bolt pistol and looking for a flamer, is bolt pistol just a smaller magazine and slower fire rate with a faster reload?
Does Ogryn still have a role to serve in the current version of Darktide? Their weapons, specifically their guns and bladed implements, are such unbelievably poor tools for killing hardly anything found in Auric and Havoc. Maulers, Scab Ragers, and Crushers are absolutely dominating the battlefield, and very few items in the Ogryns arsenal are capable of handling them with any degree of efficiency. Admittedly, the "sharp" weapons are difficult to adjust, and massively increasing the relative threat of Hordes would go a long way to help, but you'd end up proxy-buffing the Psyker's Inferno staff in the process, which is already literally an order of magnitude in effective damage-per-mission above every single other weapon in the game, even the highest second performers. Their guns, on the other hand, really just need to be adjusted for the massive defensive inflation of the enemy roster though, being careful not to over-buff the already decently powerful Rumbler. They received more HP and more flak armor, and should receive appropriately higher damage.As a specific example: The Slab Shield has the biggest identity crisis in the game. Using swap/block cancel tech to spam the Heavy 1 attack repeatedly, applying bleed to every enemy on the screen, is extremely stupid. Nobody brings the weapon for its defensive efficacy, of which it barely even has any to begin with. Blocking is an extremely underperforming atom of the game's combat system and frankly that should change, especially in regards to shielded weapons, but that's a separate topic. The power the weapon does have should be moved from its Shield to its Battle Maul component, and the shield should remain as an incredibly powerful staggering and control tool, just like its cousins found in Vermintide 2.

I also enjoy shield, its a little slower but the heavy 1 chained over and over makes you a fucking bulldozer destroying everything in front of you. If its a mixed horde throw in a heavy 2 for big knockback to give everyone breathing room. For ranged I really jive with the kickback, giant fuck you shotgun blast with the perk for faster weapon switch fucks anything that might try to get the drop on you.
