Why everyone says thief is hard? I did all fractals except CM just fine with daredevil and I'm pretty terrible (I only play LI). I was usually top 1~3 DPS even with the health leech spec that lets me recover my health pretty fast.

Mech, the easiest thing for open world, I easily do 25k condiDPS in open world with no kits, great utilities, and a super easy to use weapon.
The power DPS version is easier to play too, but it has less damage, you can get range with the rifle too.
In fractals, you can swap over to AlacDPS with no change to weapons and healDPS with a short bow or mace/shield if you don't have weapon mastery.
Hell, mech is useful in Raids too with Kiting.

my "character" was already an ex-inquest charlatan so antiquary has been a great & thematic alternative the core build i was using before. i started with a snowcrows antiquary build and shuffled it around to fit my golemancer playstyle. i know people complain about learning all of the new abilities but i found that because they were all color coded it was easier to just associate color with thing in my mind, so green=guitar and blue = turret etc. then it wasnt to difficult to get a hang of. shortbow and p/d condi toughness gear. i solo most champions and have a great time doing it. you can too

I roleplay a Flame Legion Shaman with pure fire Evoker rocking full Celestial shitter gear, and yesterday I managed to outtank both a 671 mastery Ritualist and a Virtuoso against a Tier 3 Rift to the point where I had to actually revive the Ritualist myself after she somehow died. While I think making poor build choices will make you get shit on pretty badly, but at the end of the day it's just up to the player to dodge out of evil death circles no matter the quality of your setup.

Anet should have just admitted they were wrong and given thief an assassin elite.

Core Thief is already Assassin and they already gave them Double Assassin anyway with Deadeye and then spun the magical side of Assassin off into its own spec with Specter, and then the last little bits of Assassin that weren't already part of Thief got rolled into their Spear moveset. There's literally no more Assassin to give them.

The best method is staying on top of getting the 7 a week from the Black Citadel for 1 obsidian shart each. Lion's Arch 7/week for 1 mystic forge stone isn't bad. After that probably HoT vendors in each map still, though I can't be certain I don't care enough to look up the exact values of shit.

The best way to do it is to look at the Faction Provisioner wiki page, see which Krait weapons are cheapest in each category (skip the ones where none of the weapons are cheap), then buy 7 of each of them per week to trade in (and also do the same for Reclaimed Metal Plates, Chak Eggs, Auric Ingots if you have a bunch of any of them). There's also an NPC that lets you trade 7 per week for Obsidian shards in the Black Citadel.

You get like 70+ a week for maybe 5g or so.

And not to be a shill but at that point consider the ultimate edition for one of those because for $25 more than deluxe you get $50 worth of gems. Or another way to look at it is +$50 over base expansion price for $50 of gems + gathering tools (like 2700 gems) and a character slot (800 gems). As long as you think you'd probably get gems, character slot, and gathering tools at some point anyway it's really good value. You can get a lot of nice quality of life stuff etc from gem store sales with 4000 gems.

You CAN convert gold to gems and get the deluxe upgrades, character slots, and all that stuff by just grinding in game but as a new player you're going to want to put gold towards a bunch of different things to grow your account and whatnot. Your gold income is even going to be lower than other people until you get masteries and shit sorted, have enough bag and space to not just sell materials, etc. I don't think it's a good suggestion for new players to skip ahead all the way to like LW4 Dragonfall and treat the game like it's some autistic grind simulator like Path of Exile or some shit before they even start playing the game the way they want. If you play the stories and do them in order it'd take you like 2 months to get from the core game to LW4. And all the while you'll be making very little gold.

How's the grind for open world legendary armor compared to WvW? I have an insane amount of Rift Essense from Convergences, seems like the globs and exotic luck are the only difficult part besides maybe the precursors. Unrelated video of Charr dancing since the thread is omega dead and it's the one way I know how to bring it back

You'll need a ton of ecto. Then you'll need to do each SotO meta-event like 30 times and light like 50 lanterns in each map (instead of repeat map comp) like 30 times. It's really not that bad though in my opinion.

Happy holidays anons, soon to be a new year and new link. Can't wait for the latter at least.

It's been rough during the christmas season with lackluster playercounts on my side at least. The days are horrible, the nights are worse. It has become the kind of tired that sleep wont fix, thankfully already done with the new set of wvw weeklies and rotated diamond track a few times so can easily peace out and go back to teaching plebs fractals or something

Kinda wish they kept some more early personal story characters around, it would be funny to have someone like Petra get involved with all the crazy world-ending events after beating up bandits with low-level Commander. I guess there's Faren but that's only if you pick the human noble story, and even he disappears after PoF.
