You can be a terrible gamedev but if you get big early on, then you have an established fanbase of 10s of thousands watching whatever you drop. Then there were the ones who made one game and kept upgrading it into perpetuity this locking out any competition. Terraria, Stardew Valley, Project Zomboid, Among Us, Dead by Daylight, Don't Starve, etc. How do you compete in genre's where the biggest indie games have years of nonstop updates? Exactly. Reaching parity to what these games were when they had just released is simply not enough, the crowds will certainly say "X has A, B, C, D, E, F...., your game Y only has A. Why would I buy it?" Despite that being what game X had at the start and it succeeded anyways.

Correlation does not imply causation, retard. The underlying factor that connects subsequent successes is SKILL, not fame. Obviously, developers who have spent a lot of time and effort developing a previously successful game will have a higher than average skill level than developers who haven't, and that high skill level results in a better game, which is really what games want: better games. Game can now load in an opposing team on the map, save them to the Team2 slot and spawn them in in the next level.
This took me hours to figure out because I had to figure out that a game save object won't be the same on two different blueprints even if they're using the same save slot. . .

Anons, How do you handle your save files?
Right now I have a GameData class and turn it into json and then encrypt it before saving to the disk. It's a mobile game so there isn't crazy mount of data to be saved. The encryption is to just make it non human readable and have a layer of security.
I'm also thinking of adding some sort of meta data (if it can be called that). I will have
class SaveData{
MetaGameData metaGameData;
GameData gameData;
}

So if something about the way I save game data changes it will be detected through the information inside MetaGameData class. I thought maybe I'd need a versioning system. With json it doesn't need it I guess but if I use binary format directly I thought it would be needed. Also if I change variable names json would not find the previous variable, this way I can check it and make sure the data isn't lost. (eg. If I change the variable int score to int scoreNewName).

I think you're doing too much object orientation and abstractions. For me I just have a global struct with all the data that needs to be saved (not everything has to be saved obviously) and a few functions that save that data piece by piece. Your saved data won't be much if you're making a simple game so I don't name the data in the save file, it's just text.
Like instead of saving a json that says {score: 50}, I just write "50" to a text file and my load function figures out that it belongs to the score.

It's based on the order of what it sees.
My load function is basically just:
global.score = get_next_integer(file)

and so on.
It's stupid, but with error checking there's not much that can go wrong.

Long time ago I checked .net library and it had things like binary versioning. I read and read and I remember being confused even more because if I remember correctly, it;'s something that's meant to reduce complexity, but it also added other form of complexity which made a net zero.
The data won't get big it's a mobile game and it has things like stats, score, money etc. but I want to be cautious because it's going to be released and will have inapp purchasing etc. and I don't want people's save files to be ruined somehow because of something I couldn't foresee.

Generalize for the common case and then program the exceptions in manually. Using a dictionary instead of something fixed does leave you free to add more later so that's fine. Why? You can just align them or use #pragma pack(push, 1)
They only matter when you care about having garbage data in your output but even then it's a nothingburger. You can just do a memset before too. There's only two actual issues, memory boundary alignment which you can just do
aligned = (ptr + (N - 1)) & ~(N - 1);
and endianness but that's a thing of the past and most things you're writing for are little endian.

That's just a skill issue. All the big engines are fine, and performance is the last thing you should be worrying about. Godot starts off with every expensive feature disabled and you have to enabled them yourself, while Unreal starts you off with every expensive feature enabled and you have to disable them yourself.
