It feels like people obsessively hate him with the only reason being because DE told them to. For the record, I don't even like Ballas, I'm just disappointed that all his potential as a villain got flushed down the drain with the conclusion of the New War.The Sacrifice was also literally the only part of the story where Ballas got to be a good villain. And then he jobbed at the end of the quest and sat in a sentient cuck chair until the New War, where he banished the operator with some bullshit so Steve could justify his multiverse slop, pulled Narmer out of his ass, and became a misogynistic wifebeater for some reason.
