I've been seeing this since the ending came out inRegards to Nasu liking to go for the bittersweet endingsin most of his works...but...I kinda don't see it as abittersweet ending? It's just bitter. No but seriously let's go over what happens, basically everything you do has been erased, your journey, memories, friends, all gone...the only way I can see the "sweet" part is related to Mash and Ritsuka meeting in the final cutscene, but as someone pointed out in another recent post I've read those are not really the characters we know, they share only the body with them but they don't have substance and that's exactly what Marisbury wanted, if you are satisfied just because they meet without caring for these details you pretty much agree with his philosophy, right? Mash is also gonna die in some years as her short lifespan as a designer baby still remains an issue even without it being shortened even more by the Demi-Servant experiments. Not that Nasu has never had his main characters' death being implied after the story, but at least with someone like Shiki Tohno you simply know that he might die sooner than normal humans but they don't solve that problem and then go back to it, in Mash's case she gets a proper human lifespan thanks to Fou, but now that's gone again and it just feels like...what was the point? It just adds to the argument that all the efforts during this journey were pointless. Then you've got Olga, now I'll make this a bit more personal as I don't know what others think but I just felt like the story was pushing us to the "This time we'll save her" just to not do it, and having characters saying "He saved her by holding her hand" for me is just bs, it's like they're trying to force you to believe it's a fine outcome, but I really don't see why it would be... To be fair, as sad as it is, Sion's ending is the only one where I don't really have complains,

There are no what-if non-canon Servants. There are fictional Servants created from myths: the paladins, Lord Logres, Don Quixote, even Douman. There's always a proper explanation. Logres isn't a non-existent what if Artoria, she's the accumulation of all the myths about King Arthur. Charlemagne and the paladins are fictional heroes summoned from the stories of the chanson de geste. Our Douman is an evil fanfiction Douman created by all the stories in which he is nothing but Seimei's foil. There is always an explanation as to why and how they're summoned. When you're past the climax of a story and experienced strong feelings of joy, sadness or fulfillment to the fullest of your emotional bandwidth, and afterwards you're simply mentally exhausted. Aqua's death in ONK is a funny mirror to Olga's in the finale. Olga could have been saved in a couple ways but Nasu wanted his tragic ending for her. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Aqua could have done literally anything to stay alive, including *doing nothing at all*. Akane would have handled it anyway.What a shitshow.
