By not shooting first you are guaranteeing that you die first. That's the entire problem. Shields and health do not provide enough of a "defense" to getting shot first. Even if you try to roll to cover, even if you try to shoot back, even if you try to do so many things, it doesn't really matter because shooting first and killing first is the best option no matter your position, gun, or anything. If there is even a 1% chance they will kill you, your best option is shooting to kill first.

I've had plenty of fun games full of friendlies that don't shoot, I have no problems, etc. But I've had even more games where some faggot shoots me first and "wins" because you factually can not out DPS anyone in the game when your shield is broken first.

Positioning, game sense, etc isn't even a thought in their head because they are in baby lobbies the vast majority of the time. If their choice is to be peaceful that is fine, but they shouldn't expect the devs to cater to then because they lack basic game knowledge from their friendly lobbies. Says who? If someone shoots first but can't kill in 1 mag, the person who is shot has a better chance of surviving and turning the fight around. The better player wins in this scenario (most of the time); not just the person that shot first.

How are you supposed to have "better positioning" when you need to run in the open some times? you are limited by many factors of the game. Where you're going, how you can get there, if there's arc, if there's world conditions (snow, etc), if you are paying attention to the game, and so on. There is no way possible to always be in the better position/etc. However, if the game balanace wasn't dogshit and you didn't die in less than 1 second to a grey level 1 stitcher or kettle, you could/would/should have a fighting chance.

Most scenarios in the game end up as:

>shield broken, health low
>die very soon after
What it should be is:

>see the attacker and try to dodge/run/etc their shots
>survive long enough because your shield actually does something
>retaliate and get the upper hand because you are the better player (or die because you aren't), and win

As it stands, any dog ass player can be a rat and "win" or just bum rush with a stitcher and also win. It takes no skill of any kind to face fuck anyone with a stitcher/kettle and win. It just shouldn't be this way. Not even including how dog ass heavy shields are because you're slowed down; medium aint much better because it saves you from like 1 extra bullet, sometimes maybe. I think doing things like looting and shooting arc in proximity and with other raiders also gets you pushed to PvE lobbies. It tracks that in the after game stats, so if you use prox chat and befriend people and go do shit together I think that helps.

Can anyone explain the snaphook to me? It's a cool util item, but there's really no where in the game it has a "use" for? There's no cool loot spots you can't get to without it. You can nearly always climb a ladder or use a zipline (which is cheaper and more effective and also has longer range) or things like that. It's also kind of fincky to use, having to have it on your hotbar, pull it out, aim it, etc. I just don't see the point of using this "valuable" item except to sell

I do. It's just that it takes too long to use and you risk dying very easily when using it. The range of it is insanely bad which is what causes it to be not so useful in my book. I should be able to zip like 80m+ with the thing, I should be able to use it very quickly. Yes it gives you "instant" verticality. But you need to be just as close to use it as you do to the ladder right next to you; which doesn't cost anything to use, can't be lost, goes to the same place, etc.

The only place I can think of is Buried City Hospital roof which has a bag and a sec locker. Other than that, you can get to pretty much anywhere else in the game without it; or more dense/better loot places normally (buildings/etc). Zipline also lets you shoot while using it, zipline does not and is very loud.

Why it's a gold item is beyond me when it's more like a green item. If it had no durability, more "charges" (or a faster reload speed), and 30 extra meters, that would be good. As it stands, I haven't used it nearly the entire time I've played the game and don't miss it at all now that I am trying to use it more

Let me give you an example:
Friendly lobby on Night Stella, players flock to medical research for the expensive loot. There's a few Shredders patroling, and they're in the way.
Would you rather have a handful of people get together, scrap the shredder, then loot in peace, or do you want to the risk of ticks, shredders, fireballs, and raiders to still be there for some containers with not even 5k worth of loot.
I've had multiple instances of either rezzing or healing or sharing items with someone or avenging them after they got ratted on, and they were always more than happy to share a blueprint or a key that I they would have otherwise kept to themselves. It's all part of the social sandbox - I'm not saying you should ignore PvP entirely because there's always gonna be shitheads, but from how the game and matchmaking is designed, the biggest tryhards will also have the worst time. If you're in good lobbies, you might as well take advantage of them, have some fun with the social aspects of the game.

Freekit pvpers essentially fill the role of lethal human npcs. Thats how I view them at least. Rather than create actual human npcs, Embark allows freekiters to be potentially as lethal as they are. Consumables and weapon attachments are the only thing worth investing into because the first one is actually balanced unlike everything else and the latter grants % bonuses so it's irrelevant what you put them on. The current meta is literally a grey weapon (stitcher/kettle) with green/blue attachments and utility spam.
The only exception is the survivor augment.
