What game are you playing this week, anon?

>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do not post your Little Sister farms
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs but you can share here too!

Makes little sense for a bandit in a zombie apocalypse to carry around an RPG honestly. Would blow up anything worth stealing, super loud noise attracts the zombies, and where the fuck are you going to get a steady supply of ammo?

>>
>>552905592

In a real world scenario there might actually be things to shoot at, though. Armored cars and whatnot.
>>
>>552911875
I feel like the logistics of maintaining an armored car would make it pretty impractical to have more than a year out.
>>
>>552912238
If you can convert the car to run on alcohol, making fuel won't even be difficult. Just kind of labour intensive. And an armored car would be very useful for any survivor community who could afford one. There will still be a demand for hauling cargo long distance, and you want it to be resistant to zombies and bandit small arms.

Well, it's more like a mobile base. With choppers, the larger you make it, the more efficient it becomes overall. More motors, more generators, more solar panels, more batteries, more lift generation, more everything. As long as you slap on enough enhanced (preferably super) motors to get the thing airborne, and install some wings on the frame somewhere, you can still cruise around very cheaply even while in the air.

Forgot to include this part. Currently cruising along over a forest at 290kmph, with only one of the enhanced motors running.

They're so strong that it almost feels like cheating, honestly. Finding a helipad almost guarantees that you get at least one set of heavy-duty rotors, which you can install on pretty much any vehicle. And then it's just a matter of flying around and looking for race tracks, which are usually full of electric sports cars that you can cannibalise for enhanced motors. Install as many as you need, and then zoom around looking for the best loot locations like military bases, aircraft carriers and magic academies.

For tome specifically but also in general, how do you learn to better distribute stat points? Like it's obvious when something goes 17% -> 19% -> 21% that you might consider leaving it at one point or that in 13% -> 26% -> 31% the second point doubles your value but the ROI gets worse after that etc. but how do you actually measure the impact of each point when there's so many factors? Do you go by feel or calc it out?
>>
>>553052681
In general most skills aren't worth it above level 3 unless it has a special bonus for hitting level 4 or 5.
The most important skills are typically utility. Compare the skill existence with a rune or infusion. Good skills are around the level of a rune.
Most melees don't care much about the damage number on a skills because something like 10% damage on a 6 turn ability is very tiny per turn increase since you can always bump. Most casters only need enough abilities to fill their rotations and are more interested in the CC status.
Most cleanse and teleports are worth at least one point.
Abilities that buff or debuff might be worth considering a level if the duration is close to the cooldown so you can keep it up forever.
>>
>>553053452
>something like 10% damage on a 6 turn ability is very tiny per turn increase since you can always bump
This is probably where I've been wasting most of my points since I often feel a lack of damage/burst. Probably more to do with low base values on my weapons though. Thanks
>>
>>553054168
Weapon builds do damage based on your attributes. Look at the description of your weapon, if it says 50% str 50% dex then you want to max those attributes ASAP.

Cataclysm anons, how do you feel about The Last Generation? Its my first actual jump into Cataclysm after browsing traditional roguelikes on Steam and I've dumped about 40 hours into it.

Really like the emphasis on scarcity and survival. I haven't really tried DDA proper but I noticed its $20 on Steam? I know the free github versions exist but I'm curious also if the Steam version can use the experimental builds.

Somehow it's the only roguelike (an obscure fork of a vastly more popular mainline roguelike) where people "have tried other roguelites on Steam" and came to RLG (a dead place of broken spirits on a honeypot website decades past its prime) to ask if anyone thinks it's good because of its "gritty realism"

First time clearing Daikara. Shadow Grasp with Track is so strong; how am I allowed to pull an enemy, even a boss, from all the way across the screen and then Silence, Disarm, Off-Balance, and Brainlock them on top of doing damage? >bionic combatitives is a martial art that has some funny flavor text
Sure is, the descriptions are all referencing different code languages. But that's not what I was shocked about, what surprised me was that I hit a zombie for 670 damage with a pistol.
>do you still get it from a CBM or what
Yes, you need to find a close quarters battle CBM, it's the only source for the art. And each time you use it you have a very small chance to learn the art and use it without the CBM (exact % depends on your intelligence and is doubled if you have the enhanced memory banks CBM).
>>
>>553084650
>hit a zombie for 670 damage with a pistol
it's using rifle caliber ammo, which is why I hate it and refuse to use it
almost as nonsensical as the leadworks guns were desu

that's still a stupidly large number, I think I just ignored it because it's a gasoline zombie and they always die in one hit iirc

not that guy but SB is only alright, has all the tools to win and definitely is like a whole few tiers above say Bulwark but definitely nowhere near the top classes who actually have very bullshit scaling

The issue with with SB on Insane is that enemies have random gloves which will have disarm immunity (very common staff) so if you pull a strong melee toward you it will just Flurry you to death. The pull is also not exactly unique, Doombringer has the same and while it doesn't CC, it doing a ton of damage is often better in practice on Insane since you don't have to deal with random immunities.

Question pertsining to tome4;

Is there any steamtech that can be applied to shields? Google is just giving me unrelated shit about shield, and I was wondering if it was possible because I was seeking what to add to my shield warden, and sadly it seem I cannot put acid coating on it whoch would have been dope.

Also as a random sidenoye
>Want to save melinda because I heard there was a subsequent quest with her
>Manage to do so
>The stairs are in sight, with only a corridor going away
>A fucking unique shaloren guard is there
>Manage to almost kill the bastard without any damage to her
>Fucking bastard decide to do some teleport with aoe which obliterate the poor girl instantly

God fucking damnit

Every non-antimagic character runs dissipation rune for the final bosses, there's some debate on exactly when to use it and keep it on the rest of the game

>>553181184
You can dig a spiral tunnel, a backwards capital letter G is enough, and teleport or run very fast out of. Melinda's (lack of) pathfinding will just try and fail to walk to the right and you can clear the floor and rest to full HP/resources between fights at your leisure
This and master zigzag tunnels, sometimes urkis if the build doesnt have its shit together by 20, are the only major cheese/nethack bullshit I do
>>
>>553181184
There is like 1 single steamtech that can be added to the shield, it's high level and not very strong so forget it
>>
>>553188058
Not that it matter because I got btfo in Vor Pride because the final boss decided to spawn inside the very first room of level 3, alongside the door keeping elite/unique. But thanks anyway for the heads up.
>>
>>553189226
How are you already in Vor? You're supposed to do the "There and back again" quest in the far east to return to the West, then check the T1 and T2 for new bosses before doing other Eastern areas.
>>
>>553189679
I had done it all, was 42'ish went it happened. Like if it had been any other orcs id have btfo them or even alone id have defeates him, but the combination of 2 hefty bosses who does 400 dmg or more on average per turn did me in. In retrospect I should have went for gormorsh pride or whatever the name is first, oh well that what I get for being too ambitious, not that the first 2 levels were any trouble to deal with.
>>
>>553191770
If you get camped and know you can't fight it out, leave the staircase, reorder your points so you can get high level teleport and bypass them. This way you can clear the rest of the area and get more space to fight them later.

I just discovered one of those in my recent run. Didn't even know they were a thing, I just find all the sewer accesses inside buildings sus and combed the sewers until bam. Are irradiated wanderers supposed to be a sign of a vault? I don't have a lot of experience under my belt yet.

I've only ever saw them in two places, in and around the necropolis (so above and in the vault) and there is some gas station special that may or may not still be in the game (its been a long time since I last saw it) that if you check behind it, you'll find a way to go underground to a reactor type bunker thing swarming with them.

Should I be checking my rad levels or wearing something radproof and chugging the anti rad tablets? I dunno if I'm secretly killing myself exploring without rad mitigation.

you can also identify the Necropolis (The Vault) from the layout of surface buildings, it's very distinctive
there are a few other overmap specials that are interesting, like the Central Lab, the Refugee Farm, the Lumbermill, the aircraft carrier, that one anthill Lab that sucks, the military base, uhhhhh
>>553220923
the radiation badges work, if it turns blue you're in an area with any radioactivity at all and should bring a geiger counter with you
popping one or two iodine pills every 12 hours or something isn't the worst idea if there's radiation, but I wouldn't know because the last time I did the vault I was wearing power armor and did not give a single fuck

I don't think the wanders actually give you radiation, the gas station special was super irradiated though iirc. It was a reactor though, so that kind of fits.

Not a huge fan of glocks, it might just be bad luck but I find they malfunction quite often even when at full bars and clean. It might be different with a glock 31 though? I've been using a 18c.
I did take the suggestion for an anon a thread or two back about using them to train up pistols, with the drum mag they are great for that.

maybe it's the 100 round drum magazine that's malfunctioning, those things are notoriously unreliable in real life
nope, just checked the JSON and the drum has the same reliability as the regular 15 round magazine

How does Mirror Image work? Does it cast anything that has the "Is: a spell" tag? I tried getting it to use Shadow Veil with me but I don't think it worked.

Does Blade Flurry apply when using Shadow Veil? I cleared the Room of Death one by one just fine thanks to Mirror Image but died and revived once in the regular boss room because I hit Veil and it threw me in the middle of the room with everything. Probably should've TPed but I tried to power through. If I had Flurry I might cleared it deathless (assuming it applies)

How much of a spike in power are the final bosses if I cleared the Orc Prides without any real close calls?
>>
>>553302758
The final bosses are weird because often the floors before them are scarier (enemies with pretty much unbounded level cap)
As for the fight most of it boils down to how fast you can down one of them. It can feel very easy or very hard depending on your damage.
>>
>>553302965
My AOE is good and I've got decent defenses but my single target is really lacking since I'm using Umbral Razor (Tier 2) and a crafted Tier 5 Cold/Acid dagger. Might have to keep searching for better weapons
>>
>>553303851
You need physical penetration late game since everything has very high resist. Then +% physical damage and crit stats.
>>
>>553303929
My current set-up has 52% Dark and 14% Phys pen and does 760 damage on average to a 50% all resist test dummy with raw attacks. I tried a set of daggers that give me 39% Dark and 39% Phys and it went down to around 670 despite the higher base and more pen. Umbral Razor's 50% darkness conversion is just doing a little too much still, haven't found a decent replacement.

Hello /rlg/, i'm the guy who has been Forking Rogue (1980) who has an ambitious goal of turning Rogue into something that can live up the name Rogue 2.

So firstly I would like to talk about what I have implemented so far, and what I am currently going to be implementing so far in the future.

For thus unfamiliar, here are the following changes I have currently implemented into Rogue 2:
-Character Sheet UI
-Dexterity stat overhaul/real functional stat that affects accuracy, evasion, and ranged reliability
-Gold has real progression value
-Shops are fully integrated with buying and selling mechanics
-Fully Revamped The Enemy Spawning system so each level has persistent enemies
-Removed engine limitations preventing my ability to add more monsters into the game (it was originally locked at 26, and now the infrastructure is ready for dozens to hundreds, to even yes, thousands of monsters/creatures)
-Monster logic is also decoupled from A-Z assumptions meaning for example, my new mimic as you can see here, a new enemy added to the game inspired by mimics from dark souls can have two forms despite it only taking up 1 slot as a monster
-Speaking of Mimics, there are two variants, crawling mimics which can shoot poison spit from their mouth, and towering tall mimics, which can use kicks, and brute force

But what truly defines this experience from other roguelikes? I have been asking myself that aswell, which is why I am adding a total combat overhaul and expansion to the game with extreme complexity, what do I mean by this?:

I have currently implemented a knockback + collision system here are some of the key basics so far:
-Being slammed into walls causes bonus damage
-Can stun / stagger on impact

What i'm working on
-Weight, momentum, size, stability
-Knockups, slams, charges, throws
-Environmental damage (walls, traps, objects)
-Player + enemy symmetry (same rules)

Everything will be simulated in this game, you will have a lot to look forward to I promise.

Different methods of failure aren't exactly the same anon.
In that game, you're dead when you can't be revived again- I assume it's an execution-type method like most shooters, where you go into a "downed" state and can get back up (or be helped) after a bit?

Gears of War had several takes on that I recall pretty fondly. One where if you were downed you'd start to bleed out but could be shot a few more times to be killed (Fortnite et al style) and one where you had to be actually executed via melee button prompt- It really emphasized the idea of securing your kills, you couldn't take someone out from a lucky shot or nanosecond sniper peek, you had be able to line up a shot on a much harder to hit target (probably crawling back into cover as you reloaded) AGAIN or establish control of the area where you first downed them to do a (mid-length) execution animation.
Really emphasized controlling areas and the engagement profiles of different weapons (ammo capacity, TTK, reload, range, etc).

And iirc if you were downed a 3rd time in Execution modes you'd just die right out, so it wasn't an INFINITE revive cheese system- Kind of like you described.

I think it adds a lot of nuance- Being "dead" isn't necessarily the same condition as being out of the game and you can develop strategy around that. It's not like you've lost nothing, since the revives are limited and you're ultimately beholden to the (last) last pixel. I think it's a framing issue- They could just double the size of your healthbar, or call it "fainting" or anything, maybe throw in a little grace period where you stumble to the ground at half health.

The story we tell ourselves about the game is not the same as the mechanics of the game. Death isn't the same across any two titles or genres

First victory, Normal RL Cornac Shadowblade, Aeryn survived, one death and revive to some dumb shit in Vor Armoury (but not room of death)

I died as a Cornac Rogue a bunch of times at/before Daikara, and ended up switching to SB then won on this run, the first try. Spammed Shadow Grasp with Track until I was strong enough to spam Shadow Veil. Very late into the run I realized Veil can hit the same enemy multiple times if there aren't enough targets, does great damage with Snap and basically carried the last fight, glad I leveled it to 5.

Got impatient while climbing the tower and basically didn't read any of the enemies' abilities, just focused the ones that could freeze and then Veil/Windblade spammed while running straight to the exits. Same with the bosses, got bored of reading what they do partway, decided to focus Argoniel first and just dumped spells in whatever order felt right. Between Aeryn and Mirror Image I hardly took damage. Did TP once to regen some mana and stamina but otherwise not a difficult nor particularly strategic fight.

Thanks to everyone who answered my noob questions; onto the next run.

>>
Damn Paradox Mage is a lot of fun, but maybe I shouldnt have started a run with the crystal modded race because lack of movement is stressful.

>>553356376
I kind of liked it, but I hate how almost every single fight is you vs a ton of enemies because a lot of the classes suck ass with crowd control, and almost all the levels are either open or 2 tile wide so chanelling enemies into traps is a chore. And the healing system is annoying af because one bad diceroll can mean your death by slowcut because they got a crit on your head or hands or someshit. And there is the difficulty spike past lvl 20 when enemies start to hit like trucks while you dont have that much health due to how the system work, so a single hit from them can send you to near death and there is 4 of them rushing you at the same time because every encounter is a gank squad.
