First time baking a thread, hopefully I didn't fuck anything up.
TWO southern crosses on /vg/
>>552992682Late and should've been posted before the thread died
LAMOYou posted your thread as I was making mine>We both used the same protag image>We both picked a track from the new release of the X OST
>>552993490My bad, I was asleep when the thread died and saw that there was no /aceg/ in the catalog for a solid hour or so after I woke up.>>552993518I fucking knew this would happen, god damn it lmao.I checked your thread and noticed that I forgot PA's English twitter since it isn't in the template.>PA Twitter (ENG)twitter.com/AceCombatGamesReally sorry about this.
>>552993936I just copied the last thread this time while remembering to remove the embed so I wouldn't embed the embed>templateOhh I need to update mine as well thanks for the reminder.
>nobody in LRSSG cared that Trigger repainted the three strikes into a clawwould have pissed me off desu
>>552997024>nobody in LRSSG except Count even knew what those 3 lines mean.
>>552997024>nobody in Spare or any Penal Units showed up to fight the second Arsenal Bird, so nobody even got to recognize what the claw was referencigThe Razgriz parallels would've been through the woof. Also I'm only now recognizing that Trigger's story is a deliberate parallel to Wardog squadron, but maybe that's because I only went back and played 5 recently.
>>553001424There really should've been a fight against enemy Spare defectors. I get they didn't want to add that wrench into Tyler Island when there was already a dozen things happening at the same time, but they should've popped up elsewhere.
>>553001424>nobody in Spare or any Penal Units showed up to fight the second Arsenal BirdCoughsHe was the only named member left the rest were nameless mooks and we have no idea if any survived to that point or they just stayed on the island or vanished to the seas to join up with Air Pirate groups.
>>553002056>stuck in the space elevator the whole time, same as AvrilPoints for sticking to the prompt as written I guess. And we know other Penal Units apparently existed, probably copied the concept from Spare after seeing Bandog, Trigger, Count, and Avril work miracles, so even a simple background line would've been cool to further the idea that everyone was unified in telling the warmongers to fuck off. Maybe something like> << Three Sin Lines?! No, that's a claw? >>
>>553002895>And we know other Penal Units apparently existed,No we don't we only heard rumors other units existed but zero proof any more existed beyond Spare.
>>553001628>mission where ex-Spares show up>they recognize the sin line claw and recognize Trigger>some of them go straight after you for clout, some of them try to retreat, some of them try to switch sides again>the ones that don't go after you become yellow targets and you can choose freedom or justice>taking down yellow targets makes it easier to S-rank the mission, but each defector that stays alive joins you for Lighthouse
I'm glad the cover plane in 8 is not the fucking F-22
I wish the cover plane in 8 was the fucking F-22
I wish the cover plane in 8 was fucking the F-22
I wish all planes had the same stats in 8 so I'm not stuck playing the F-22
>>553001628Still baffles me that not only Spare, but Mage never showed up again. Not even some subtle allusion to them later on. Hell, when you get to the part with ID systems being downed, it seems obvious you'd have some of the guys from before show up. Or given the finale is the big coalition, you'd think they'd shove Clown and Sky Keeper in.Mostly, I'd have loved to have a late reappearance by Bandog.
Zeros premise/theme of just a bunch of ace squadrons all over the place is very cooli know it wont fit into ac8 but i wish they wouldevery other enemy squadron is an ace squad, with their own history and style
>>553011879I hope 8 lets us do more cool environmental destruction shit like this
>>553008334In the Farbabti battle there's a line of a Mage 1 asking for support/thanking you for support, but it's not Clown's VA in English at least. As far as Spare goes, I feel like every pilot except for Count and Trigger got forced aboard the plane Tabloid and Avril did.
>>553008334My headcanon was that Mage 1 shot down Labarthe. Not out of malice, but just due to the sheer fuckery of everything going on at that time.
>>553033429Really hoping the YR and XR planes from ACX come back in 8. I need the YR-99 again!
>>553033429It would be rad to see these come back for AC8, especially the Apalis.
>>553034137I really liked the Apalis, it has an appeal similar to that of the XFA-27.
>play 7, my first ace combat>go back to play 3 4 5 0>go back to playing 7>now 7 doesn't feel rightI don't know how to describe it... the steering is so "soft" in 7, you know?
>>553034101I fully expect them to be back. In universe Its been long enough for them to be common, COFFIN planes being the standard is just a few years awayIn the real world Kono did mention he knows one of the big things fans wants are lots of planes and skins. They are original to the game so zero license cost to use them.If they don't add them in I say we annoy the fuck out of Kono & PA's twitter until they do add them in.
>>553034921They made concessions to allow PSM, and kinda went too far.
You know of all the questionable lines in 7, 'How penal is this penal unit, you ask?' may genuinely be one of the worst lines of dialogue in the entire franchise.
>>553035218I’m wondering if we’re going to see any prototypes of stuff from Electrosphere. Would be cool to see a proto-Delphinus with a glass cockpit or something similar.
>>553024070>Mage 2 (allegedly) shot Harling>Mage 1 shot down LabartheIf that's the case, the entire squadron is going to be branded as cursed or some shit kek. I don't see them escorting a VIP anytime soon
>>553036327>proto-DelphinusYou mean the YR-99 don't you?If anything we'll see a lot of GR real world planes being high end stuff. I also expect to see this guy as a mid-high end attacker.
>>553036841Pretty on brand for every Osean squadron named after some kind of magician to have some kind of problem (especially since 2 of them defected to an anarcho-terrorist group)
>>553038483X-32 always smiles because the only alternative is too cry.
>>553037137Wouldn't it be a Multirole though? But yeah, really weird how 23 is so often around but they just ignore the 32.
You know I really do like that Erusea went from monarchy to a republic then right back go monarchy, and it stayed as a monarchy afterwards prrsumably. Don't see that to often in real life or fiction. Then again they are literally France so I guess it makes sense.
>>553038913That what the game classes it as but personally I never found it much use as anything but an attacker. You gotta remember er the 23 has been in the original the 32 didn't even exist at that pointOn another funny note Boeing has been pushing the X-32 for a long time behold Lockheed, Boeing, and General Dynamics entries in the ATF competition. We should be very worried about what the NGAD will look like.
ok so count gets huxiantabloid gets avrilwho the fuck does trigger geti dont wanna be a plane incel
>>553041113A plane is fine too.
>>553041113>tabloid gets avrilYou are aware you're talking about someone who's dead, right?
>>553041494up until the point he died he had avril
>>553041113Cossette. Why do you think she's only seen from the back
After finishing Electrosphere, are the other Ace Combat games worth a try? Electrosphere has that really cool y2k cyberpunk flare to it , with a spice of PSX Wipeout, especially the logo corporations and cutscene transitions that's gonna live rent free in my head for a while. I figured its downhill from here.
>>553042630The rest of the games won't have the exact same atmosphere, but the series as a whole regularly includes "near future sci-fi" concepts.
>>553039046Just three wings?
>>553043040just 4 wings? how are you even gonna generate lift?
>>553042630>I figured its downhill from here. You figure wrong they are all fun except AHRemember 4, 5 then Zero and X is also a must play. Have you played 1 or 2 yet?
>>553035386Wrong.Every word out of this dude's mouth is the most retarded "I have a Japanese understanding of the military and geopolitics, please understand" garbage I've ever heard in my life. And it's great.
>>553043249I had fun with AH in spite of how DFM botched the AI and replayability.
>>553042630Yeah, the mainline games are more good than bad. They also do semi-regularly tie back to 3, either by reusing locales, direct reference to corps and even characters.
>>553035386that's a line with real godfrey ho energy
>>553042630I doubt you'd enjoy them as the rest of the games aren't bargain bin worthy trash. You should stick to playing other bad games.
>>553042630if those are the specific things you're looking for maybe not, but you should still try em and see what you think.
>>553044915we (all of us) will be praying for a qt brown sotoan lolihebe in 8...
ac8 set in 2029its gotta have some wonky near-future stuff, this shits gonna be great
>>553039046
>>553045431that missile hanging off the bottom wing is fucking hilarious to me
>>553045395tbf all of the games have wacky SF elements, it would be shocking if an AC game just played it straight and boring.
>>553045550When Avril gets serious she makes Belkans green with envy. Its even funnier when you see it in actionhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY_y6yES7ZI
>>553043015>>553043593>>553044656Fair enough>>5530432491 and 2 look a little, little, dated, but I might check out 2 though for curiosity sake. I think I'll just continue on with 4 and see how I feel for the rest of the series.
>>5530466082 may look old, but it's peak Top Gun mood. If you liked the movies you will get the feel for it despite the looks.
>>5530466082 also got a remake on the 3DS/New 3DS called Assault Horizon Legacy+, with all the regular Ace Combat controls.
>>553046608tbf 1 was more a tech demo launch title, it is simple but just a home version of the arcade version when it was called Air Combat 22. But 2 is a huge jump from 1 in everything its the most arcade style game in the series and an amazing 90's OST even more so than 5's arcade mode.
>>5530466082 is good, i think 1 is skipable2 was one of the first games i remember playing on the ps1, rented it from blockbuster
If no one else wants to, I'll host the Shootout this Saturday, last Saturday was really fun. Same time same place. If anyone else wants to host feel free to take over.
>>553047740if im around i'll comeits funny how you can go from stomping on random lobbies to getting absolutely destroyed in the aceg shootout saturdayyou guys are sick, and its very fun to dodge your missiles
Huh didn't know an SR-71 plane add mod existedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVnVV3eu8nw
>>553038604since the 5th gen roster in ac8 will be the same, he has a chance to get in to at least add some flavour into the mix
>>553054576Kono jumped straight to 7th gen with the Raven. an entire generation is free for him
>a whole week (7 days, basically a month at this point)>release date hasn't even been revealedIt's so fucking over, dev hell again, game was delayed by years just like 7, they shut down the studio and sold off the rights while we weren't looking.
>>553054789since chinese planes are no go and neither europe/russia or usa has anything to show for in regards to 6th gens, we're going to have to rely on more fictional planessince the raven is 7th, whats a delphinus 1 or a xfa-36, su-43 or delphinus 3 meant to be?
>>553055914What ever Kono feels like them being as we add more super planes. But to be fair 6th gen in Strangereal was the originals seen in X as each is listed as a next gen plane.
>>553055914more canceled/prototype/concept planes would be cool too
>>553056964<< It's time! >>
>>553056964ST-21 Please
>>553056964thunderscreech my beloved and rocket interceptors would be cool as well

Finished 7 again, was watching the credits and saw Studio Khara did the directing and storyboarding for the cinematics. Neat. Also Paramount's right at the end for some reason.
>>553070061>Also Paramount's right at the end for some reason.Because of the Top Gun Maverick DLC, probably.
>>553070403Oh right yeah.
God I love the YF-23.
>>553070963i always thought it looked ugly from the rear
>>553067585Then how about fish fighter game in plane game?
Will A-6 just be the bonus old plane in the game like F-104 was? Or just be one of the starter planes?
>>553074321I'm hoping it's a starter, and I hope they have that stupid Nugget skin for it.
>>553074321AC7 doesn't have a carrier-capable attacker from what I remember. I could definitely see PA including it to give players a starter attacker that can also take off from carriers because of the whole naval theme AC8 has going on.
>>553076864f35 is an attacker
>>553077071It's a multirole.
>>553077195no it isnt
>>553079008its a plane__
F-35 is fun_________
>>553055914GCAP, FCAS/SCAF, and NGAD are all on the table. We have been shown enough detailed mockups to have something worth putting in a game.
>>553093016Wonder if their generation will finally be the one to retire machinegun off a fighter jet
>>553076839time to pull out c4-621
>>553095987Well of course it will, you can't have both an MG and lasers.
starting up acx for the first time, just got to the first route split. is there anything i should keep in mind regarding that or am i good to just wing it?
>>553101326just wing it and see the consequences of your actions
>>553101326Throw a coin. Heads route A, tails route B
>>553075806Nugget skins complete with Nugget pilot are a MUST no matter what.>>553101326Just pick something but look and listen carefully to Eugene as he lays down the pros and cons of each route. Then make your choice as it will effect the game.Once you beat it free mode offers even more options for some missions you can't access in story mode.
I want his skin back in as well just have to update the year
>>553047985I should be able to host it this time but the Saturday after that will have to be someone else, I won't be around.
>>553067585>whale huntingGrab my Legend skin and go hunt the Alicorn or the Arsenal Bird.>>553112925Kinda sad we never got this back, atleast we got all the nugget emblems I guess.
>>553118336Its why I hope Kono really did pay attention to people like these kind of extras. I might be asking for too much but I wouldn't mind seeing all the nuggets get a plane with them in the cockpit and a skin fitting that nugget.
Is 8 the first one to have a subtitle that refers (most) directly to player character? It's a line from the script or something else usually.Like 5 is not called Demon of Razgriz in any release; 04 is called Shattered Skies or Distant Thunder and IIRC these both are from the script.
>>553121349Yes it is
>>553064512https://youtu.be/Ld2-JyAsYAg?list=OLAK5uy_mhG0anzKQc8EYC_dm2TCWgLJfSgCDhF-U
>>553121349eu 5 is squadron leader which is what blaze is, so if you really want to stretch it it could count
>>553122471Sometimes I really miss the days when this was the more common type of game music.
is AC7 PvP fun? I'm getting sick of war thunder propslop
>>553106759Don't forget the female Nugget picture taped to the cockpit.
>>553126376Much like Bore Thunder, 7's multiplayer is most fun when there's not metwhoring assholes in the lobby. That's why the shootouts this general does usually have points and weapon restrictions.
>>553128581aw man
>>553132246You should just try it and see. It's still easier to get into than the cancer tha is grinding WT.
what is this bar and why does it fill up i'm scared
>>553136569Kill gauge. When it fills up it unlocks the next aircraft in that 'line'. For the F-5E, there's the F-20, then the X-29. Not every aircraft has a successor model so the gauges for those will be filled by default.
>>553136569Also the rate it fills depends on what difficultly you play on.
>>553137825> F-5E > F-20 > X-29slightly insane line of progression but quite rewarding >>553138956As in, lower difficulty = faster completion, so weaker pilots can access better aircraft sooner?or the inverse? Can one realistically unlock all/most aircraft in a single campaign on hard difficulty? If not, how do you manage?
>>553139646Higher difficulty gives faster completion. The old recommendation back in the day was to repeat Mission 26 on Ace difficulty; most planes will max out their gauge in one playthrough of that mission. You won't unlock everything on your first playthrough, but the game does give you regular plane unlocks every couple of missions. You'll have a F-22 after Mission 17 (of 27) for example.
>>553121349I wish modern game development cycles weren't this long
>>553141949Idk, they've been on a roll since 5.And the bloat could have explained AHs poor ideas, but AHL was absolutely stellar so that kinda falls through.
>>553139646>Can one realistically unlock all/most aircraft in a single campaignNo some planes can only be gotten on the A or B mission you can't play both in one run. This include the Falken & X-02 along with normal planes in that. Its also impossible to max out every gauge in a single run.Remember don't even get the last Falken part until you have the X-02's 3rd skin as its possible to trigger the skin bug then you can't get it on that save file any longer.>how do you manageYou play till its done
>>553141949I wish modern games were better optimized. My only fear for 8 is that it gets hit with the Unreal Engine poor performance curse causing it to run like garbage. Hopefully PA has everything functioning smoothly, since PC and console hardware isn't looking like it'll get cheaper any time soon.>>553139646>how do you manageYou just pick your favorite plane(s) to beat the campaign with and unlock the rest in Free Mission or SP New Game. The PS2 games can be S-Ranked with pretty much any plane, so doing a "canon plane" challenge of F-5s then F-14s is pretty doable. Hell, the Hawk trainer plane is also fun because of its low stall speed, low purchase cost, and a full squadron of them means 24 QAAMs which WILL melt through Grabacr/8492nd.
>>553153361I mean they managed to have a solidly looking and performing port of Ace Combat 7 to the Switch 1 so maybe they do have Belkans programing their games
>>553154009I still don't know how they managed to do that.
>>553154009Still amazed at how well it runs on my Lite.
>>5531533617 ran on Unreal and it was very smooth with not very high specs for what they did. I expect 8 to be the same.I still think that 8 is 100% done right now and they are spending the time in 26 before release making the code do Belkan magic stuff while adding more skins to the game.
>>553153361>8492ndJust met them helping me out though.. SURELY this isn't a spoiler of their betrayal is it
>>553155115I mean all of Osea turns against you because Wardog becomes the demons, so is it really betrayal?
Is there any way to find 3D models from R-series planes? I want to print an R-103 so much
>>553157638Didn't someone upload all the R-Series to Cults3d a while ago?

>>553158940Belkan Dreamers...
>>553158940Its so beautiful have no words to express it with
>>553158940The planes converting to hide the dmg is kinda peak imagination.
>>553056964Does anyone actually like the FB-22 though? There's so many that never made it but they insist on that ugly thing every time.
>>553166439It's Raptor but Dorito, what's not to like about it? Then again I also like the F-16XL, so my taste might be a little corn chip tainted.
>>553166439Out of the FB-22 chart it hit that sweet spot 3 & 4 were just silly, yeah I like it. Would have been far more fun if you could have dropped more bombs at once with it. Same problem F-16XL has.
>>553167742>Would have been far more fun if you could have dropped more bombs at once with it. Same problem F-16XL has.perhaps they should experiment with class specific perks, like attacker categorized planes should be able to drop all weapons visible on pylons at once instead of being locked to two per reload
>>553166439Blowing people out of the sky from kilometers away in a shiny dorito that vanishes from radar almost instantly is funny

>>553168623Think of it like a hamster with a full mouth
>>553128581The shootouts are chill, while randos are a mixed bag. Do NOT enter rooms with only one person and hotjoin off, because those are made by people who only duel with PSM planes, which is the opposite of fun. Check the multiplayer guide in the OP, and have fun, buddy. What's your planefu?

What's the deal with AC7 modders? Why are they jerks?
>>553184104the kind of autism that makes people get way into modding also makes them go completely insane whenever they get a tiny crumb of social power
>>553184104modding in general has become so much fucking worse in the past few years to the point zoomers are actually defending paywalled shit
>>553180416Kind of wonder what's in USEA mind when they painted the Aigaions>So grey is for normal, red is for better and black is for the scariest. What did you say about the color scheme for one in-between red and black Aigaions?>GOLD
>>553184104Kid you not, the only reason why AC7 modding managed to get democratized in the first place is because one of the people in the cabal had some type of falling out/drama and dropped all the tools and docs in the meltdown.Wouldn't be surprised if those people are now desperately clinging onto whatever they think still makes them special and different from the unwashed masses.Few sane men expend time and energy into a solo project distributed entirely for free out of good will, so a good chunk of modding communities - especially ones that are particularly niche and small - end up being packed with the insane.
>SchwarzeHoly FUCK these guys and their bullshit "dodge missiles fired on while jousting" and "dodge missiles while 2000 ft away from their tail" maneuverability. Although they're probably way less annoying when I'm not trying to murder like seven named aces.
>>553186501What makes them even more annoying is that MiG-31s take 3 missiles to kill and there are 8 of them
>>553185996Wasn't there additional drama when it was supposed to be a breakaway group within the cabal that wanted to release the modding tools, but then that one guy jumped the gun and ended up taking all the credit (but also ended up taking all the heat when the cabal tried to sic Bamco lawyers on him)?
>>553184104In my experience they're just weird.

>>553198813I think he's supposed to or at lease have the same skill level as Cipher, he's just not a try-hard so he doesn't get the nickname slapped on. Every few missions or so at the start of the game, allied AI jokingly say Pixy is gonna take all the kills away. Jumping even further ahead he says during Zero "Now we find out who's number 1"
>>552958701I disagreed with this initially, but I was listening to the OST again, and with the Gleipnir track specifically the intro section feels straight out of AC3.Little bit of Gordian Knot in the electronics mixing with discordant classical instruments, little bit of Morceaux with the background vocals. Some others also fit in with AC3 surprisingly well too, like Kingshill or Kalana.Diversion on the other hand sounds like a song ripped straight out of classic Wipeout. Like I swear I can hear some of the same sounds you'd hear in an EDM sample library.
>>553204752>IEWS tacked onto the drop tank functionalityI never like it when addons do this.
>>553201128Part of it is also PJ always talking big without it feeling earned. He's a good enough pilot; he managed to not die at the Round Table twice and he's able to follow Galm around well enough. But he also runs his mouth the first time he enters the Round Table (oblivious to all the heavy lifting Cipher and Pixy are doing) and he's constantly spouting lines that make him sound like a bigshit hero. And it's probably a programming limitation but hearing him talk about stopping V2 then never showing up inside the dam really reinforces all of that to me.
>>553207145>those who survive long enough on the battlefield start to think they're invincible, i bet you (PJ) do too, buddyLiterally a cautinary tale.
>>553185996>Wouldn't be surprised if those people are now desperately clinging onto whatever they think still makes them special and different from the unwashed masses.Their main discord is dead, they had a final shitstorm that completely killed it. It's only small, isolated communities now.

>>553250546>RevokerMy brain refuses to accept the Revoker. The Ifrit is very cool, the Vortex is a good-looking take on the X-32, but the Revoker just looks wrong. And I tend to like doritos a lot.
>>553207145Pixy and Cipher (even though Cipher never talks) just come off as grounded, PJ's self-bragging is something he has the entire game and it ends up getting him killed in the end. I think Pixy ended up resenting PJ over time which ended up with the cheap snipeshot shot at him during endgame instead of Cipher.
>>553257863Needs two engines
>>553257863The ass is sticking out too much. Also the hull looks like it got flattened, so it both looks thicker than it is and the dimensions make the wings look silly small. It looks like some alpha concept of a Grippen, and that hits you in the face with all the uncannyness that most early concepts have.

I'm not sure how intentional the action composition in that scene is but it feels like the blast could have easily been a miss since the Morgan's beyond detection range at that point and even the tiniest misalignment at that distance means a shot is trashed. With him banking left he pretty much dives into it, and it's not even like he was trying to protect Cipher because it wouldn't have hit Cipher anyway.PJ just choked so hard that he died.

Remember we're having Shootout Saturday tomorrow at 1330 EST! Standard rules apply, point and weapons limit. I think I may do a couple of shitpost match or two and turn off the point limiter just for laughs, but no more than 2 or 3 rounds. Majority is standard limits battle royale.

wow that bossfight in transfer orders is exceptionally not fun
>>553281720I barely remember that there's even a boss fight in that mission because it dies so quickly to MGP or PLSL. The enemy AI (both actual AI and meatbags like Mihaly) don't know how to respond to weapons that don't require a lock on.
>>553281720Funny, I love that fight.
How many people do you think die in Fleet DestructionAll those huge boats and the sea platforms, it must be several tens of thousands
>>553284902The platforms could be a solid couple hundred; oil rigs tend to have about a hundred personnel on them max but in this case the platforms are for military use and not oil drilling so ehhh? The frigates and destroyers in the drydocks probably aren't crewed to full, the active destroyers are probably a couple hundred crewmen each, so on and so forth. The Kuznetsov alone is at the very least a thousand or so.

That thing was fucking fun to fly around in, I had it so tuned up for maneuverability. And the thing is - I don't even remember anymore if I was just placeboing myself into believing that was true or if it was just kinda mid. I tuned it for Ring Battle but I also kinda sucked so it could've been good and I just sucked but either way it was fun. It was maneuverable in the zone where it was in my comfort zone, I guess.

>>553294897I can't even play the DLC missions??
>>553295130Unfortunately not. The game's entirely lost.
>>553295223Wait you're fucking with me, Ace Combat Infinity is literally lost media now?I've had that game in my backlog for years thinking I'd get to it when I had time and now that I finally do I find out it's quite literally unplayable??There isn't a way to play it on the high seas either??
>>553295790It was a live service game, anon. You wanna know what's shittier? There was a campaign mode you could buy, despite the game itself being "free" (you had to pay for "fuel" to play for more than a few matches a day) and there was a free flight mode you could just use to fly your planes around in a sandbox, and when EoS hit I lost access to all of it. Single player content, content I paid for, never accessible again. They're damn lucky 7 was good because that was some bullshit.
>>553296059Oh and the campaign story was never finished either, not that it mattered since it wasn't canon to anything else anyway. I don't think it was even really Strangereal.
>>553294338Man I'd never heard the ost before, this has such a different feel to it than any of the other games.Although, they're doing that Smash Brawl thing where they love their own theme song way too fucking much and made it their leitmotif.
>>553295790I was gonna ask if YOU'RE fucking with ME, lol. No fan servers of any kind, in fact I'm not sure that's possible even if the willpower to do it was there. Gundam Battle Operation 1 and the weird F2P Soul Calibur game are similarly gone forever, I imagine all three of those games had their energy mechanics tied to the base functionality of the game too so no way to get rid of it without bricking the game. It is what it is.>>553296059Honestly imagine Infinity was THE last game in the franchise, I'd be livid about that. Fun set of missions too and a lot of weird ass planes that didn't come to 7.>>553296197Honestly I don't think they ever intended there to be an actual followup given how quickly it stopped getting updates. Basically just an excuse plot to establish the setting and establish Reaper the game's Singularity.
>>553296197Honestly I think the story was pretty cool, I wish I got to actually play it. Strangereal is neat and all, but it's getting to the point where its being restricted by its own lore and its pre-established canon, and I don't really like that.I like that ACI was fucking about in the real world with classic AC elements. The story being left on a loose thread was interesting to me cus they could take it anywhere at that point. In the end it didn't matter to me that it was set in the real world because it was so fucked up from the events of the story that it made it interesting.I genuinely want ACI to get a sequel, or for the story missions to at least become available to play on modern consoles. I think they did something interesting.
>>553295790It was a live service pseudo-gacha game. EoS is never a merciful thing, god knows the gaming community had to raise a giant shitstorm just to get a shot at having the EU think about looking at it.>>553296197>I don't think it was even really Strangereal. It was a "greatest hits" compilation of many different beats of the Strangereal games congealed into a real-world setting. So that's how you get Ulysses hitting the real-world Earth, the Aigaion fucking everywhere, Stonehenge in Turkey, Avalon Dam on the Russian-Mongolian border, Operation Bunker Shot on the Croatian coast, so on and so forth.I enjoyed it for what it was, but it being unfinished left a bad taste in my mouth. They even teased the big new orbital superweapon and whatever the fuck the evil spooky red Mobius 1 emblem at the end was supposed to mean.
>>553296853Oh we definitely aren't getting a continuation of the story anytime soon, but coop being confirmed for 8 makes me hopeful the main gameplay can come back. With how popular coop games have been lately it could be a good way for PA to rake in money while they work on Ace Combat 9. Just as long as that fuckass fuel system stays in the past and they don't have a battle pass lol.
>>553297135>>553297426It really was weird how Infinity was supposedly successful enough that in convinced Bamco to greenlight 7, yet simultaneously not successful enough to get an actual story ending.
>>553296853>I genuinely want ACI to get a sequel, or for the story missions to at least become available to play on modern consoles. I think they did something interesting. For all the parts I liked about the game, it should never come back because the live service aspect was absolute fucking cancer. It's financial crack cocaine and companies need to resist it, especially if they aren't going to keep a game chugging along forever. The star of the show was the ability to fly team PvE missions where two teams compete for points finishing a mission together. Pure team deathmatch staled WAY too quickly. This also opened it up for big boss battle missions which was an awesome feeling, that all-hands-on-deck scramble to hunt a big flying carrier whale, issuing commands to delay the final attack while people are still trying to rack points and some asshole snipes it anyway, delightful miscreants.
>>553297426I still wonder how coop is gonna work in AC8. Is it gonna be actual like WSO stuff, like one player flies the plane while the other is in charge of weapons? Cus that'd be fun imo
>>553297569>It really was weird how Infinity was supposedly successful enough that in convinced Bamco to greenlight 7, yet simultaneously not successful enough to get an actual story ending.PA is a bamco substudio with like 20 actual lead guys, logistically they could not have been able to work on 7 and a sequel to Infinity at the same time. this employee bottleneck is why PA had to merge with ILCA for 8 iirc
>>553297569Part of me thinks it was a priority thing more than a funding thing.I don't remember the exact timeline of Infinity's lifespan and 7's development so I could be talking a load of horseradish, but I could easily see that perhaps 7 got greenlit, and PA didn't have enough staff to both maintain Infinity's MP, finish Infinity's SP and get started on a make-or-break project for the franchise. If MP brings in cash and 7 determines the fate of the franchise, then yeah the SP was gonna get shafted in terms of resources.
>>553297658Maybe for couch co-op but nobody really does that. I think it'd be a real hard sell for normies otherwise. And even then, what, would it just be like a nintendo game where one person's in the driver's seat and you pass the controller to your nephew so he thinks he's helping? idk.More likely it's team flight/squadron type stuff, or a separate online mode like Infinity used to have, PVE team matches.
>>553297658>Is it gonna be actual like WSO stuff, like one player flies the plane while the other is in charge of weapons? >Cus that'd be fun imoone guy gets to actually play the game while the other guy gets to press a button occasionallyhmm, no thanks!
>>553297616>This also opened it up for big boss battle missions which was an awesome feeling, that all-hands-on-deck scramble to hunt a big flying carrier whale, issuing commands to delay the final attack while people are still trying to rack points and some asshole snipes it anyway, delightful miscreants.God all those old Charlie Fraggers are gonna come out of retirement to kill the XF-666 Skullfucker too early again.>>553297658Laziest option would be essentially using Infinity as a base and just modernizing it with better netcode(lol) and more interesting mission design.>>553298148It might be kinda fun as a VR mode.
>>553297951>employee bottleneckChrist, this shit is only going to get worse with AI. As soon as they can get a toaster to produce something that only has a few extra toes or wonky wordings here and there they'll kick most of their fleshbound employees to the curb and quality will plummet. What obligation to make a good product will they have if they're barely investing anything into making it and can just turn those resources to something else with equal effort?Only humans can imbue this franchise with the hammy overbaked soul it requires to be fun.
>>553298413>It might be kinda fun as a VR mode.Idk, AC is not deep enough in the nitty gritty systems mechanics dept to really give a hypothetical WSO only player anything fun to do.Also VR is already confirmed to be off the table for 8.
>https://x.com/kazutoki/status/2009619085420798118Today marks my first Friday back at work, and I'm on my way home from Ace Combat. This afternoon and evening, I recorded a dialogue interview with Director Katabuchi about Ace Combat 8. Ultimately, having worked together for 25 years, our conversation covered a wide range of topics: the inspiration for this project, how the Ace Combat story was crafted, the expansion and history of Strange Real, and even the work of directing itself. During that time, I started talking about it myself, and with the director's affirmation, I finally managed to articulate my thoughts on AC04 after 25 years and truly understand it. It was an incredibly meaningful time. Thank you. I am truly grateful.
>>553298605Well it seems AI slop is the ONE dumb technology meme that old Japanese businessmen haven't totally fallen for, at least for the moment.
>>553298129I'm a family man now, I'd love to have a couch co-op F-14 game or something along those lines, fuck yeah
>>553299989Like I said, I'm not opposed to it - to an extent. But I don't think our meager niche meets the level required to sink the necessary amount of effort and resources into it. Multiplayer online framework ostensibly already exists, and they've presumably been working to reframe that for a co-op mode, that's the more likely case.If they're not going for VR despite happily displaying how much work and effort they've put into the cockpits, then they're probably not doing something like that either.
>>553300253>Multiplayer online framework ostensibly already exists, and they've presumably been working to reframe that for a co-op mode, that's the more likely case. It'll probably just be a short side campaign set up specifically for co-op play. AC5's Op Katina but with internet 2p.
is Infinity salvageable to be a single player game by itself, or was the campaign too cookie cutter to stand out?
>>553297135>whatever the fuck the evil spooky red Mobius 1 emblem at the end was supposed to mean.I really like that Plane Satan was apocryphad basically immediately. Mobius One has such a mythical presence in the franchise that an "evil ribbon fighter" feels even more hacky than that trope usually is. Hell, he's so legendary that Wings of Theve is basically the FCU trying to gaslight its own people that a once again a heroic ace has arrived in their darkest hour against an enemy invasion.
>>553302302When I was a stupid edgelord high schooler I loved that kind of shit, I was genuinely hyped to fight Mobius One if he evil.
>>553301435the biggest problem is that it's only 8 missions. if you could somehow keep in all the bosses and their higher tier versions it would be fun
He's in a flat spin, oh no
>>553315169Yeah but Joint Assault was a spin-off released late in the PSP's lifecycle and mostly sucked all-around and Assault Horizon was unapologetically "we want the call of duty audience" and also mostly sucked all-around.
>>553301435it has no ending, so that kind of automatically writes it off. though "replayability" wise, the game does have a fuckload of planes, so if you're some kind of demented fuck that enjoys playing the same 8 missions over and over again to unlock a single branch of a tech tree, then maybe.

what am i looking at heremoral point system? any bearing on narrative/gameplay? if yes which is most fun?
>>553392114they're a little like VN routes and affect mission difficulty (or so I remember), dialog and some of the enemy aces who turn up.knight: you're mister honourable; only shooting down hostilessoldier: you're a bit more indiscriminatemercenary: kill em all, you heartless bastard!
>>553392114A lot of people call it a morality system but I think that’s oversimplifying it.I think what it really is, is ‘how would you fight a war’? What are you priorities, what’s important to you? How do you fight; what characteristics and aspects do you show? That’s generally what the story focuses on in whichever style you play. Hence why it’s called the ‘ace style’ system, not ‘ace morality’; you’re still an ace, the same people who trash talk you or praise you will still think the same. But you’ll see how it changes.
>>553392114if you like money than go Mercenary
>>553392114Killing yellow targets skews you towards Mercenary, leaving them alone skews you towards Knight. Soldier is a balancing act.It changes what squadron you fight at specific points in the story, what planes you unlock as a result, and some Assault Record aces are also locked behind ace style requirements. Also changes a small handful of in-game voice lines here and there and the two FMV interviews for the two squadrons that are the same across all ace styles.
>>553392114>moral point systemYep, it's based on how many Yellow targets you blow up. Sparing them makes you a Knight, killing them a Mercenary, and keeping equal amounts dead/alive brings you to Soldier.>narrativeSome slight dialogue changes.>gameplayIt changes which enemy aces you'll see, and some missions have different S-Rank criteria depending on what Ace Style you have going into them. There's also medals for going full murderhobo, full moralfag, and being perfectly balanced Mission 14 is the last Mission where you can meaningfully affect your Ace Style, after that there's like only one possible Yellow target.>most funSubjective. I like going full Merc for entering Mission 10 because of who shows up, but Schwarze is a pain in the ass for me. And Merc on Mission 16 is definitely the most challenging, but I think going Soldier on the same is the most fulfilling narratively.
>>553391084
>>553392114>Most funDepends on what do you define as fun. Being a moralfag like knights of old? Bomb everything and see the fire rises? Or playing the arbiter and pick which target you set free and which one you kill

>>553455528It's the "Strange, real world"There must a be a Japanese pun in there or something but idgi
>>553455528Strangereal is the non-diagetic nickname of the setting. In universe, the planet is our Earth, just with different continents and countries. That's why it's Strange, but Real. The rest of the solar system is unchanged too. The sun is Sol, the same 8 planets orbit it etc.
>>553456176Strangereal could very easily have a Planet 9 in their solar system, or Mercury could be just a remnant asteroid belt and we wouldn't know unless it becomes relevant.

>>553537439>>553544342Ace Combat 7 came out a bit after "gamers" started to complain about being made fun of for being bad at video games. Wolfenstein 2 also replaced "spineless gamers" for "novice gamers" around the same time for it's easy mode. Combine that with 7 being the first multiplat game in the series and they probably wanted to play it safe and not scare away newcomers with an "alien" control scheme as the default.
>>553525941I've saved a ton of thread art and writing since 2017, so at least a good chunk of /ourstuff/ is safe on my devices.

I'm sorry, but you're all wrong.
>>553553036And how many gamers actually are good at flying the planes in GTA and BF, let alone ever actually tried to fly one for more than a couple minutes max?Besides you can't really blame 7 for the name change cause Assault Horizon already did that too, even worse in fact because that game just defaulted to the shit controls without even asking if you wanted to change them back.
>>553523368>traineesWell the old carrier could be a training ship on the way for a final exam when the war struck, so it makes sense in a way.
>>553553545>And how many gamers actually are good at flying the planes in GTA and BFYou don't have to be "good", you just have to have the mental capacity to understand roll and pitch; that's the sole barrier of entry for the expert controls. In my span of time playing Battlefield (BC to BF4) I have never heard people get filtered by planes. It was always the helicopters that filtered people from flying.

Why does the sheer gall of being good at something make zoomers call you a tryhard sweat?
>>553727803AC7 multiplayer is filled??? I feel like I remember not even being able to find a lobby and that was years ago. But of course the people who stuck around are going to be really good at it, thats always a problem in small multiplayer communities. X wing multiplayer also had that problem, the 12 people still playing know how to that games equivalent of PSM and fucking teleport behind you so they scare away anybody who randomly joins.

>>553757491Apparently having decided that the Actual War Crime of blowing up random civilian boats is not enough, some dipshit at the New York Times is trying to claim that an aircraft disguised as a civilian plane was used to do it, citing a supposed eyewitness testimony. The description is shaky at best, going so far as to claim that the weapons were (gasp) hidden inside the fuselage to disguise its purpose until it was too late, because apparently internal weapons bays are illegal now.The context points to only one possible cause: the P-8 Poseidon, the US's premier maritime patrol aircraft, based on a modified version of the Boeing 737's chassis. Some fucking civilian saw a plane that looked kinda like the airliner they took to visit their grandpa once and immediately assumed it was perfidy. There is a claim that the plane was painted to resemble an airliner, but zero evidence for this has ever been provided, which is pretty sus given that every dipshit has a camera in his pocket nowadays. The state-sanctioned murder on the high seas is the problem and trying to muddle it with this easily disproven bullshit is only harmful to the cause.
>>553758365>NYT being retardsno surprise there

I'm sorry about dumping this on a thread about Ace Combat specifically, but I've been going down a bizarre plane-related rabbit hole for the past hour or so. More specifically, I've been trying to find out more about Mongolia's apparent use of Su-30SMs in their air force, as according to Wikipedia they started receiving them in March of 2019 with 4 delivered, complete with referencing a 600 billion USD deal with Russia.I thought it'd be cool and interesting to have at least one image of a Mongolian Flanker to share here whenever things slow down. However,>Image search brings up zero photographs on the internet of Mongolian Flankers>The news article that Wikipedia references in regards to Mongolia receiving Su-30SMs uses wallpaper art of a Flanker with Russian markings edited to have Mongolian markings>The news article is only a small handful of lines long and written entirely in broken-to-shit English>The Su-30 article on Wikipedia has a section for Mongolia under Operational History but the text is a blatant copy-paste of the exact same text that is on the news article, complete with utterly incomprehensible sentence structuring.>Flight International's 2025 World Air Forces almanac referenced just under the news article lists them as only having MiG-29s>The Mongolian Armed Forces website's brief history of the Air Force only mentions that they received MiG-29s from Russia in November of 2019: zero mention of receiving any FlankersWHERE DID THESE COME FROMWHERE ARE THE TOP-SECRET MONGOLIAN FLANKERS HIDING?ARE THEY IN FINLAND?
>>553710896I'm playing ac6 right now and I don't see any way to control wingman special weapon usage
>>553760374>ChecksOh thats right its just attack and cover selecting attack allows his SPW use and its normally the first weapon he'll use.Been a while since I played 6
>>553758916Unfortunately that sounds like a good example of why your high school English told you Wikipedia isn't a source: because the fucktards editing these articles make mistakes all the goddamn time. And that's when they aren't being actively malicious like they are with Gamergate articles or current events.
Also I searched 'mongolian air force su-30sm' and one of the links is this.https://www.flickr.com/photos/kurtsmocs/13188083834Look at the dates on the picture. Seems the Mongols got their hands on the sekrit dokuments that unlock Flanker-chan's reality warping abilities.
>>553758916They don't exist, never did never willYour first clue should be a $600 billion deal they don't even have that much money. That is almost 10 times the yearly GDP for them. Add on they are fully on board with China not Russia.
>>553762352>$600 billion dealI misread, Wikipedia states it as 600 million (but only on the Su-30 article, there's no mention of it at all on the Mongolian Air Force article.)Oh well, them not existing makes sense nonetheless. It always irks me when I stumble upon stuff like this on Wikipedia, 'cause I've seen correction edits get reversed constantly on the site for the most banal of reasons sometimes.
THUS IS THE NAIADWE'VE STRUCK A MINE
Interestingly enough, if you look at the Wikipedia pages for the Mongol airforce and the Su-30 on Mongolian Wikipedia there's no mention of this deal nor any Flankers in use. There their only listed fighters being 6 Mig-29s. I'm genuinely convinced it's either some schizo or planted disinfo meant to make BEAR LOOK STRONG by claiming more production/international sales.

>>553825000Has FAN said anything? It's actually HIS thing, I figure the hiccups in production either come from him or whatever company he's using for the "animated" parts.
>>553775216Strictly speaking the first Su-30 (Su-27PU) was actually an interceptor, they functioned as datalink hubs to coordinate other aircraft. The first multirole Su-30 was the Su-30MK. >Conversion trainer? For the original flanker production, that would be the Su-27UB.

>>553817909It didn't have lootboxes. You got a random item at the end of each game you played but that was it. That's not a lootbox, it's a random drop. The random drops weren't involved with upgrading planes either, aside from having a chance to drop credits sometimes. But the vast majority of your credits would come as mission rewards. The fucked up thing was simply that the game was incredibly grindy. An average game on hard would get you like 30000 credits if you did very well, while getting a mid high tier plane to max level cost around 70 million. There were raids and event mission types (naval/ring dm) which paid out a lot more, and there were 12 hour double credit boosters you could use too, but it was still very grindy even with that. Really really grindy game.Yeah I was a retard who played that game far too much if that wasn't obvious.
