It gets going with original ideas and mechanics from the start and never stops. DnD system itself is obviously very basic, but the tactical gameplay enhances significantly. I've bumped the difficulty to Hard after early levels and it became quite challenging. Enemies became aggressive, not solely focusing tanks and always trying to push me off cliffs. If my character was vulnerable they tried to capitalize, got sketchy in places. Tanky HP on some enemies for my suboptimal builds. Often resulted in a slapping brawl by the end, since spells for DPS weren't enough. Overall gameplay is substantial and that's the main thing I'm here for.Story is generic, but at least you get to visit distinct places and your party banters a lot, very charming B movie dialog. The ending sort of happened, felt left unresolved. There was no specific main evil guy and they were absent for majority of the game. Not even travel ambushes. You just save the world and "main threat is still looming in the dark we'll need you again one day, hero". I can feel that the DLC is a proper closure to the story,. I tend to kill Marz without even recruiting him because he kills people on my crew. And saying "well people die every warp jump anyway" isn't a valid response, because just because X people die, doesn't mean it's suddenly ok for you to add X+Y to that number. That logic can be taken further to justify anything, so you should know it's not logical.I also tend to not really like that he's disrespectful towards the people on my crew. He's more respectful than Yrliet, sure, but that doesn't stop him from his forms of disrespect.However, while thinking about the reasons why I don't recruit Marz, I realize that many of them apply to Idira as well. She also gets Y number of crew killed by accident. She invites demons on board, and it's not the first time she's done that. She is also outright disrespectful towards some of my party, like saying "not so sanctimonious now" when Argenta is injured in combat. In an actual combat situation, if they survived the mission, I would immediately court martial the person who said that and they would be off the team forever. Even without the warp problems and getting crew members killed.And you know what the funniest part is? Idira doesn't even do her job. There's only several fights through the game where she actually converts a surprise round into a normal round. She does not warn you about Yrliet's betrayal. She does not warn you about the genestealers. She does not warn you about anything meaningful. Even though she's better off dead, for the record, she also failed to warn Theodora.If someone is mouthing off like she does, outright disrespect for a religious figure, not even doing the one thing we keep her around for which is divine the future to warn us about stuff, and gets potentially hundreds or thousands of crew killed with her warp antics, a logical person would not keep her around. We only keep her around because it's a videogame and we know she has a story and we're not actually responsible for real crew members.
