You guys talked up the swamp and I'm new to the game and don't know any better so I did the 5 builders start, hired mercs with starting money, and walked my lvl1s with 0 dough strait into the heart of it. Been banging my head against the wall for 10 hours strait to the dulcet tones of the banjo. Stupidly prioritized getting power and cooking going instead of looking for sources of money. None of that shit works here until hemp distillation and generators at lvl 3, and lvl3 bench requires power to operate

>>553746179Your best bet is to just meander around the low levelled areas like Border Zone or Skinner's Roam and beat up starvers and dusties for training while trying not to die. Once you get your guy up to stats in the mid 20s then you can go around and explore a bit. Don't bother building any kind of base unless you know you can defend it.If you really want a place to store loot, then you can buy houses in some of the major cities like Squin or the Hub. Just click a building and you should see a little price tag at the bottom left to buy it. You can also buy destroyed houses so don't overlook those.If you want money badly then either beat up bandits and steal their shit or go copper mining, although that's a pretty slow way to do it. You can also steal shit and sell it at the Hub, but you might get your ass put in prison. Won't kill you but it'll waste time. Unless you wanna try your hand at escaping ig.

It starts you in the hook with building materials and research for wheat farming with seed. I just squandered it and made every mistake trying to figure things out in an unforgiving area. It wouldn't be as bad if I had known I had to rely on trading for food for so long and settled an area on edge for smuggling hemp. You can't even trap raptors for campfire cooking because it's all foul meat. I guess this zone is meant to be a mid-game hurdle, high risk / high reward drug smuggling and not early game
