Hello again /mjg/. In my search for demon lord x hero romance stories I read the manga "Superior". It was pretty good, though definitely dated to the 2005 era. It didn't quite fit the trope though, since the romance happens whilst the hero is entirely unaware of the demon lord's identity, and she isn't actually the big bad of the series. The story about how love changes people for the better, not about a hopeless, irrational love between enemies that is pursued against all odds. I guess that can be found outside of the maou trope, I'm just surprised there's no big example of it being done. There are dozens of doujins so why no manga? Nevertheless I enjoyed Superior and recommend it. I will read Maoyuu next.
