Shield maul isn't great against those.The special is absolutely incredible, don't discount it. If in doubt, always load a special round before swapping to your melee, who knows when you might need to stun something at range. The shock rounds open up bulwarks in a way that flashbang can only do when the bulwark is already peeking anyway.Otherwise the next best weapon is bolt pistol. Again, you likely want max mobility for sprinting, so you can dump collateral, but it's not as big of a deal here and collateral actually does something desirable, so you can still dump mobility. Maniacs for breakpoints. Unyielding + Puncture lets you deal good damage to monsters. I like Run'n'Gun for my second blessing for accuracy. Use Mk IV, you won't need the stagger on the explodey one, since you have flashbang for groups of bursters.Mk VIII shotgun is serviceable, but worse than the bolt pistol.Combat shotguns are perfectly viable, but have worse ammo efficiency than the arbitrator shotguns, because the special shells fully replenish on a small ammo pickup, so you should use those whenever you can.Boltgun is good, but not so much for special sniping, due to its long equip time. You either run it with dog to do that for you, or LW + grenades, to quickly frag approaching trappers and the like that you can't pull your gun out against in time.

In my first 20 hours, I've made the following deductions. Veteran is a dud, everything he does can be done better by other classes. Zealot is fun and easy.
