I thought on the Rien larping as Roland after being commanded by the Index thing for a bit, and I think I get it. We know that the Index Gods of the City are influenced by the City itself, and while Roland may not be the strongest or most special fixer in the business (although that's not to say he's weak), he might be the single fixer who's made the most waves in the City in recent history.There is of course his rampage after the pianist incident which seems to have been a significant incident. Of course he killed a ton of people (including a bunch of the Middle), I believe some people even described it as having 'shook the City' or something along those lines. But that's not all.Because afterwards there was the emergence of the Library. Which had people pissing, shitting, or cumming at the idea of going there. We see from Leviathan and Hong Lu's canto that simply being a former guest of the Library is valuable in of itself. And judging by the dialogue from this canto, it seems common knowledge that Roland was one of the key figures of the Library.With that in mind, Rien's history makes sense. Hermes was trying to replicate Roland's rampage by having Rien imitate the circumstances via having a family and then having that family die while he was away, but he defied that prescript by coming home early and witnessing it. And instead of snapping like Roland, Rien instead broke further down. So instead, Hermes just has Rien directly larp as Roland. The ending is Rien giving up on both the Prescript and larp and deciding to die. The reason he gets a spork is because Hermes doesn't want him to die yet but keep on larping, so he gives him the 'worst' weapon, but Rien still kills himself anyway with it regardless.
