The entire thunder emperor plotline, Kasumi and Megu's history, Kasumi almost dying, the thunder emperor building weapons that could destroy the world, they're trying to slowly build up to "something" at least. They have at least some material to work with if they buckle down.I mean they could just embrace the meme and write gehenna like its Disgaea, but their greatest limitation is that fact that every joke is so utterly typecast at this point that characters can't help but do the exact same joke every time. You gotta play with the joke a little bit, you gotta zig when you expect them to zag, you gotta throw a few curveballs. It can't always be Fuuka gets kidnapped, Makoto is stupid, Hina is perfect and all powerful, Gourmets blow something up, and Hot Spring club also blows things up, you gotta tell the same joke in a different way at least. You almost had something in volume 3 when Gourmets were stealing fish from an aquarium since it was different, but gehenna just lacks variety. Its not that gehenna got the short end of the stick, its that gehenna has always kinda sucked here. It exists as just "potential" that people occasionally point to and pretend it was always good. In one month Wildhunt already has two better events than Gehenna has ever had.
