Meter is important but not in the traditional sense, Rev Arts(think EX moves) fill your Rev Meter and if you fill it up to 100% you go into overheat(can't use Rev mechanics like Rev Blow, Rev Arts, etc) and if you block too long you can be guard broken leading to big combo damage(a change in season 2 is that if you're in burnout now any special with invincibility like a dp no longer has invincibility, supers still maintain them though so that's something to keep in mind.) It's very much a 1v1 game with a lot of mechanical depth with a lot of offensive and defensive mechanics(a good number of the offensive systems like Rev Accel which lets you chain Rev Arts into Rev Arts back to back is only available in S.P.G. (think T.O.P. in MOTW) and same with Rev Blow. You also have stuff like Just Defend(tap back recovers REV meter, health and let's you do a Guard Cancel), Hyper Defense(same benefits as Just Defend except you must press forward instead(while they seem similar this maneuver is more handy for multi-hitting moves). Hope this gives you a better idea of how the game handles. If you have more questions I can answer then as best I can.

Instead of supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T8 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their Heat move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, Heat also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic.
