Tyranny is honestly the most unique CRPGs currently out. Most of the others are either DND-esque TB or RTWP or just a mix of standard tactical TB XCOM + some abilities and gimmicks.The classles lvling system + use based xp + the magic system & custom spells + the reputation granting you abilities and having synergy abilities with companions + the reactivity and great replay value.It's a shame this game got overlooked compared to a lot of other CRPGs, imho it's the 2nd best Obsidian game after NV and much better than pillars.

>>555202176Archer Ranger is super strong, easy and very powerful. Fighter/Thief is a great "Fighter with sneaky spice" for people who enjoy backstabbing and bringing some extra utility to the party. Cavalier is a nice version of Paladin with extra upside. Wizards are actually not bad for a newbie either. Spells can get complex, but learning from scrolls means you can dabble and experiment to find out what's good. Just be sure stick to the roads at first and pick up Montaron, Khalid, and Jahiera right away so you have some meat shields at level 1. Really though the only classes I suggest avoiding are Sorceror, since you kinda need to know the spells to pick, the triple multiclasses like F/M/T and a couple of really stinky kits like Beastmaster. Even non-ompital kits like Jester Bard can still be a lot of fun though.

On top of that they have much better thac0 than mages and some other fighter-ish oriented advantages, depending on the kit. This has some nice synergy with interesting corner cases like Melf's Minute Meteors and also gives them a really pleasant progression of shifting playstyle from BG1 to BG2 to ToB. Starting out as strong Archer, then shifting to Archer/Mage or Fighter/Mage and finally fantastic tanks. Being limited to only proficiency is a downside, but when combined with Use Any Item is means they make fantastic users for that powerful equipment you can't fit anywhere else and fit in with whatever itemization the rest of the party doesn't need. And speaking of UAI, Bard HLAs are amazingly good. Not only do you get UAI and the fantastic Improved Bard Song, but Spike Trap and Time Stop Trap as well. And Bard song may be "Just an Aura" but it's an extremely powerful party wide one. And with Bard Hat all it really asks from you is a little micromanagment. Further, they aren't thieves but pick pockets is still great for farming cash, especially when your thief doesn't need to spend any points on it. Oh and you get all Mage Wands. which is of course great. The main knocks against them is that un-kitted Bard doesn't offer much, and that Fighter/Mages are similar and offer more raw power. Which, sure, but Fighter/Mage is the strongest class in the game so...okay? Bard still offers a bunch of unique advantages.

But Bards (Mostly talking about Blade and Skald here) get to be great archers in BG1 that also sling wands. They have strong effective roles all the way through the series and it's fun how that role evolves over time as they gain new abilities. Are they BG3 "best class in the game" Bard? No. Are they still great? Yes.

I can understand why a rogue trader would recruits Yrliet, even one who is dogmatic. I could even understand keeping her around after Act 3 even if what she did was full on retarded.
