Mounted combat is very good because pets do a great job of turning you into an off-tank (or even tank if you go bulwark pet leveling) with essentially zero investment. Wolf and Dog are generally considered the best thanks to innate trip and you can ride them after a couple levels, usually go bully for the canines. Do get Boon companion. A pet down 3-4 levels won’t be worthless, but it’s a lot better to have it fully leveled. Especially if you want to ride it. C. Smash was marginal in kingmaker and with the nerfs to shatter defenses ease of use it’s even more marginal to invest so heavily into. Most people just let their casters handle shaken debuffs using the frightful aspect spell. Getting outflank on all your melee guys is way, way more important. I’d definitely put feats toward outflank and boon instead. Lunge is also a good option, especially if you plan to be mounted.
