Had a blast in early in my first playthrough, thought things were going pretty well until pirates started to increase in number and HMG trucks showed up followed by facing rogue army which was a hard change from bugs as well. I feel like all factions could deal with a more expanded roster. Menace themselves are in a placeholder state for now I feel, I thought that they were extra spongy in first encounter so you wouldn’t steamroll them the first time you encountered them, but it turns out there were just that tanky and dangerous.

I think it's more fun in theory than in practice. The whole 3D aspect of planets just doesn't lend itself very well to gameplay (for a human anyways). A 3D planet is just a really shit "map" for any strategy game, it hides everything interesting beyond the horizon and because it opens up so many routes it means there's no natural "home" and "enemy" areas to help your brain to process what's happening. The air and space layers are frankly just boring. It's not strictly bad game but it leaves lot to be desired when pitted against the immediate competitors. Due to the perspective you "need" to play zoomed out to the max which means you don't get to see what units are doing except as moving icons.
The interesting part is the various super weapons and mega mechs but honestly there's probably a more interesting game buried in there and it's not worth playing trough PA just to get to use one planet buster more than couple times. Supreme commander is just lot better basically.

If you really like supcom and beyond all reason (which is literally free btw) it's worth checking out, it has a nice spin on the genre, but it's definitely not the game I actually come back to often or play in multiplayer.

Be aware that as far as combat go, Age of Wonder is a bit of an anomaly.
Master of Magic/Deity Empire also have turn-based combat but it's not as deep.
Otherwise, SONG OF CONQUEST is the current meta, but you might not like it, it's Heroes of Might and Magic like.

Yeah, hardware prices are up all across the board because the source component manuacturers are having their production bought up by big business. They're signing multi-year contracts and so there's much less being supplied for consumer tech. I really do hope any /civ4xgeezer/ who plays new stuff upgraded their rigs last year because it's probably going to keep getting worse long before it gets better. But I guess the true geezers are playing older games anyway.

Getting the Hero of Humanity rank with Terrans was extremely easy. It has only taken me 6 hours.

Two miners mining ore and silicon. They are more to prop up the Terran economy against the consant Xenon meat grinder, than for actual profits. As even with the cheapest build my RoI would be around 40-50 minutes. They are a million and a half each, so I don't really mind.
Have the free Teladi ship on auto exploring. And going to use another scout ship to explore even more. Have to keep tabs on all the Xenon systems, and monitor how the other factions deal with them, and if needed, assistem.

Will grind more missions with my starting Kukri, save for a mining trade stations, and start looking at refining ore on my own and sell it to Terrans.
Terran's economy and building uses different resources and components than ALL the other races. So they really need my help, even if that means I can't grind money as easily. Still, I may set up a trading station or two on Argon territory.

Yes. The X games are notorious for being obtuse, vague, unintuitive and downright without ingame information. Althought it has improve a lot in X4.

It's not that hard. Ships have a size, S to XL. With S being fighter-like, M corvettes/frigates. L cruisers and X/XL battleships.
Ship equipment are mainly weapons, manoeuvring thrusters, engines and shields. Which are very self-explanatory,
In X3 it was hell to figure out in-game where to get equipment and ships, but in X4 it is told where to buy what, specially if you do the recommended starts, as you have the classical "NPC tells you how to tie your shoes".
Now the hard unintuitive part is how to trade automatically, station economy and NPC ship/fleet management. Luckily there's a lot of mods for QoL that saves you a lot of micro with the janky interface.

It always does. This game simulates each ship in the galaxy, with their AI. Including combat, mining and trading. So from the start you need a good rig, and by late game(if Xenons or other "end game crisis" doesn't wipe everyone out) it struggles a lot.
Luckily the mid to end game gameplay is virtually only CEO/grand commander. You buy your battlecruiser, outfit it like like a flagship, and control you economic and military empire from there. With breaks to lead your main fleet personally, for those high risk operations.

Most things in the game are "OP" if you are building in a specific way. Yes the ability to faith buy is strong and if you are going for a faith built you probably should go for it but it's not automatically best just off the back of that.

You can win with any government (and basically any build in general). It's just a matter of choosing one that fits your current build or playstyle and one that you enjoy. If you like Theocracy just pick it, but know that strength of a government is determined by how quickly you can win with it especially against competent opponents.

I had a wipe on that scenario and came away with some lessons
the problem is your placement always seems to be in the middle and your allies are almost right behind you not leaving too much room
it's very easy to overextend and put cities too close to the Onmar. this is probably the biggest mistake you can make because you will pull his aggro. If you leave a lot of buffer space he'll probably focus on fighting whatever ally has more direct access to his territory
I took advantage of that and would just stage some guys in his vision if he started creeping a small army in so he'd back off.
since the other faggots were fucking with me right when my economy got going I dealt with all of them first, I think I was 2 turns away from magic victory when the teammates actually just went and killed him.

I didn't have any of the expacs when I did it so that simplified things not having all the little events. I don't know how fucked up shit would get if I tried it now.

I had a very hard time against the AI, but most of your energy goes to expanding. At least in my experience. It's just that moving on from crashing neutral to fighting other empires is a huge spike in difficulty.

Grinded enough money for a M Katana.
x2 MK2 shield generators, x2 MK2 all round engines, x2 M Barrage Turrets for anti fighter, x2 frontal MK1 tracking missile launchers with x31 Windstalker missiles, and two frontal Meson Lance at a whooping 400k credits per unit, for when I have to deal with harder, bigger targets.

I have no idea what I am doing.

Hell, Dol Guldur is a vile faction.
They expand extremely quickly, making them very good in early game defense, BUT they can't send their units away from their buildings unless they're specialized units (like corrupted entwives or blighted trappers) or they're led by a hero (armored Castellan, the Necromancer).
Their basic units are the broken rabble (wanderers and adventurers captured and horribly tortured until they're insane), and their only value is that if they reach level 2 before dying, they come back as undead.

Not really, sadly. The Bretons were extremely troublesome people for the French to rule over, and even today, there are still cretins wishing for independance.
Anyway, most of the Breton history I know is about Anne de Bretagne, and how the Bretons opposed the French Revolution of 1789.

The rest is anecdotal, like the fact that Brittany was really big in ranches, orchards and fishing. There's a reason the Breton speciality is the apple cider. Thank heaven we never invented the stargazing pie or the boiled beer.

After around 13 hours, I'm finally selling the shit I had in my inventory.
I was told that in X4F you can make a lot of money by simply picking up cargo from destroyed ships in warzones. Should give it a try.
There's also something called "close loop economy", in which you can make ships by recycling the hulks of destroyed ships.

I should start learning how to set up stations and crank out ships. As I have modded the Xenon to "evolve" every 10 hours. And their fleet, number of stations, and station defence will increase each 10 hours.

Basically, yes.
In X3 the player ends up being the "end game crisis".
In X4 it seems there's research that unlocks "crisis" for end game fun. One for robot death by Xenon spam another one by insect Khaak death and finally one that triggers conflict randomly between all the factions.

I'm a retard, so I installed an overhaul mod and cranked up Xenons on my first play through in this new X game.

13 hours in, with 62 mods, including X4 Reemergence, VRO and DeadAir eco/warfare/scripts. And ignoring that I have to launch the game with:

Plowing should be a "battle" against the storm where the plows slowly clear the roads while the storm slowly fills them up over the course of several days. The mechanics for this exist already with varying degrees of snowiness which affect how fast vehicles can drive, but practically there is only clear or 100% snowy because of how fast the snow builds up. Only the few meters behind a plow at the very end of the storm will be have a level that isn't clear or 100% snowy.

The Xenon managed to pop one of my scout ships. The crew managed to bail on a scape pot but got popped too. The pilot managed to eject and is floating in his spacesuit, with his oxygen going down fast.

The campaign missions will expect you to play very aggressively and expand fast.
However if you play on low difficulty it should be ok.
Builds and expertise in tac combat makes a big difference.
The most important thing is to just keep fighting and feeding your guys XP (tho Aperently they’re changing this to be less of an issue)
Also if you’re having a hard time expanding fast enaugh. Oi can always run with chosen destroyers and just unga bunga the game which is a great way to break the game in single player

The AI knowing your location is how it attacks. The AI with a resource handicap is how it bounces back after a snowball of failure.

For games that don't have base placement, the AI only targets control points and objectives as movement nodes. Some exceptions such as purpose built units that hunt vehicles will map hack your vehicles that were not seen yet. Last of all the AI knows where you click on the map, and uses that heat map to avoid units or flank on a different path. The AI will most likely counter by the structure built and units in queue before it ever has any of their units see your base.
There is no secret that the AI also likes to envelope on the weakest player on the map, and that is usually the only human player in the game, and a generalized tactic to win.

AI in most games are unable to defend and fortify objective points. But AI in most RTS's are either dumb or cracked on trainers. Most startups are wave defense games because of that. But the irony is most players can't play the game better than the easiest of AI, and that is why I have 6:1 wins multiplayer in one game so far.

The UI is so bad cause it tells you nothing. It looks bad from a color standpoint (Take note in the pic i have a mod that adds a little more clarity to it.). There's many many more problems that if you're interested enough in go check any regular civ youtuber and they probably have a video out with all valid points about the amount of mistakes in the game. The devs are slowly adding things and making an attempt to improve the game, but at the same time the game is over a year old and you still can ONLY trade cities in war peace treaties. You cant take gold, resources, anything. Just white peace or take cities. The TLDR for Civ 7 is the game was released a year and half, maybe even 2 years too early.

Picked up my Servants run again, I'm determined to finish it off. I'm at 2.9 billion people under alien control, 33% of the required 65%, but progress in Europe has slowed to a crawl because of the low number of abductions and the constant battleground of enthrall-crackdown-purge-repeat. So I took a look at Africa and, well whaddya know, it's chock full of abductions I don't have to do and high popcounts to ramp the number up. The AA have finally landed their assault carrier, but if their new armies are as useless as they have been so far, I'm not expecting much.
Also I lost ~40% support in India in a single turn, so the AI is breaking out all the cheats. I made up for it by blowing up their 100-strength fleet.

The conquest of Africa is going well. Most of the eastern half has been taken over, and a few high-pop countries are lined up for the next few turns. Giving them a land border to Egypt seems to have kicked the AA into gear, since they started actually attacking it, which dislodged the rest of their armies and have eaten a good chunk of the EU. And they're enthralling India giving me 3/5 points, it'll be a massive boost if I can completely take it.

Overall, I liked playing the Servants. It turns the usual gameplay loop on its head. Instead of guiding world research towards exploiting the solar system, you have to dominate to impede and stagnate it. Instead of building nations, you have to tear them down to make the invasion easier. Instead of focusing on your little corner of the world, it's a mappainter.
The new lore is pretty cool too, like insight to who and why the aliens are, and their plans for humanity and how you subvert them. Or how the Servants are so batshit insane yet utterly devoted that the alien's mind control straight up doesn't work on them. Your advisor gives off 'crazy MLM-hawking pastor for an esoteric semi-rural cult operating out of a Planet Fitness' vibes.
The first 20 hours are fun, between planning and preparing for the alien's arrival, reading the new lore, and the initial rush of the Alien Admin taking over the world. But after that rush, the game slams into a brick wall and the last 10 hours are a miserable slog of mostly-empty turns that each have 30+ game-pausing notifications as you make piecemeal progress towards the end. The aliens constantly enthrall useless countries, the other factions swarm in to crackdown and purge, and it repeats endlessly. And enemy station whack-a-mole is plenty tiring too.
Difficulty-wise, I played on brutal and it was still piss easy. For reference, difficulty enhances the enemy factions and the aliens build up faster. For Servants, the alien bit is inverted, where the aliens have have power equal to cinematic difficulty. But it's still easy, because the human factions are borderline useless and all the struggle in the game comes from the aliens, and by removing that entire mechanic, the game becomes a cakewalk.

But apart from the endgame, the Servants are a good playthrough. It's easy, it's lightning fast compared to a usual run, and it has plenty of unique quirks that differentiate itself from the other factions.

Slowly working on my super autism map generator. I've got the 3D ocean simulation working and connected to the atmosphere and plant simulator so everything just works. Left is the surface temperature which seems realistic. I even got some sea ice stuff in so for example this map didn't start with any sea ice, but the white regions at the north and south of the map on the right are places where sea ice formed. The ice reflects sunlight and other shit that affects the climate so you could potentially set up an ice age scenario with a feedback loop. The whole thing works surprisingly fast at about 3/4 of a second to simulate a day on the planet but the ocean will take probably centuries to millennia for all the deep water currents to stabilize so that will take hours to days to get something truly realistic, but who needs realism when I'm going to throw some dogshit landmass generated by the default Civ map generator in it

Simply put, I'm a very casual gamer, I can go weeks without playing a game.
And Dune Awakening is kinda like Rust: always online, can't have a private/solo server, so always on a timer, and you have a base that can run out of energy.

So to keep playing it, I'd have to log in once at least every two days to scavenge for fuel cells to keep the shield up, and all my spare time is dedicated to Final Fantasy XIV, I don't have room for two big games, and I don't like Dune Awakening enough to give it my 100%.
I can tolerate jank, but a game that wants me to be often online or else it erases my progress? Forget it.
Also I really dislike that you can get taught by a Gene Gesserit acolyte and she can teach you the Voice, that thing is kind of a secret. Or that mentats are an actual frontline class. It's like putting a logistic officer in Battlefront 2, it's not a good idea.

I like city sprawl as well but i feel like they went a touch too far with it in 7. In most cities you end up with pretty much no rural tiles, which is always fun making those farms, mines etc. into massive yields. But at the same time some of the cityscape can look cool around the navigable rivers and mountains. Thats kind of the thing with 7, you find something you think is neat or fun but then a giant flaw bashes you on the head.

The scale is just wrong with it in Civ7. The cities are frankly just far too large in comparison to the terrain for this kind of sprawl to look nice. It doesn't help that the sprawl and the artstyle hides the stuff that you do care about like your districts in visual clutter. Like in this image there are at least 4 large green roofed buildings that look to be important but who the fuck knows what they are or do from a glance and if they are even actual buildings or just randomly generated sprawl.

I 100% agree with this, they should color the building based on the yield it provides like in 6. Its insane how much more readable the game is. I always thought what they need to do is the colored buildings and make the sprawl buildings smaller. You look here and while there's a bunch of urbanization and stuff going on you can clearly see which of the buildings are the actual things that matter and what are the small little visual clutter to make them look better.

You can tell that 7 was rushed out over a year early, this isnt some small indy dev thats never made a civ game before. This dev team has been here before and it just feels like some of these issues would've been ironed out if given the time.

The thing about urban sprawl is that it isn't equal at all times in all places. Even before we had multi-tile cities in 6, in 5 the cities would have a noticeable urban core that's densely built up on the actual tile occupied by the city, and then there would be little suburbs on the tiles around it that would have no gameplay effect but clearly showed how the urbanization tapered off the further from the core you got.

There's none of that in Civ VII. Every tile that is developed is immediately developed and doesn't grow bigger or more complex the more yields it generates or the more ages pass.

Level modifier 4 means they start at level 4. That's 40% more damage as well. afaik they don't get anything else on top of that.

I mean, I don't have any other pictures yet as I was stupid and hit 'build all' and got stuck waiting for enough stone to be quarried. Finished a Plan-B terraform run.

Pretty neat game, definitely worth 15 buckaroos for me. I think it lacks some kind of special sauce for it to be truly great but for a chill city builder and terraforming game it's quite good, there are no real enemies and no real way to lose at least not on the default settings so this isn't one for you if you are looking for challenging run.

The weather simulation is pretty nice and the terraforming feels quite nice, you start on a lifeless planet, then you pump up the temperature to get water which then becomes a new obstacle and a new resource. Then with water you introduce plants and animals and get oxygen. Later on you unlock ground terraforming tools that allow you to shape the planet as you like if you want to go that route. I was at first booty blasted because you could drown your resources with the rising oceans which I fucking detest but turns out you can first protect them with high seawalls and later with the ground tools just dig them up from the ocean floor if the sea walls weren't enough which is nice.
The logistics gameplay is generally enjoyable though bit simplistic. You mine minerals, process them in simple 2-3 step chains and then deliver them to the cities or factories making buildings. The only real curveball the game throws you is the waste that cities make that has to be dealt with by sinking it into the city demand as high priority otherwise it clogs up the whole thing. The game even lets your trains phase trough each other (though they do create traffic with trains on the same line) so you can very easily unga bunga most challenges away with more trains, trucks or ships. I didn't really end up using ships which I think has to do with the way the map was laid out.

Managed to do the "finish in 100 years" achievement on my first try in about 80. I will probably play a second time and see if I can do the hardest settings achievement

Good. If you see Caine in your game, that means you're fucked. Vampire the Masquerade is about you being a bottom feeder, and Caine is... strong. Insanely strong.
In the backstory, one of the antediluvians (a third generation vampire) wakes up, and pretty much drains most of Africa dry before being taken out by several satellites firing at him. Caine's even worse.

Check the forums for help, Blood Omen has no tutorial. I remember it's Ctrl tp attack, Space to use a spell, but I don't remember how the bat form (fast travel) works.

Like on the acceptable ones you never really get to start a war or anything with the era units before it's already new era and time for upgrades.
But too slow and you finish buildings quickly and then you hardly do anything but spam units.
Then the AI cheats, player has to struggle with either buildings or units yet ai can do both.

Finished this city builder in 24hs. There's a -50% discount going on which I think makes it well worth the price.

It's basically a hyper QOL Anno, very forgiving in terms of money management (as long as you're positive and avalanche proof, you will never lose) and everything builds and acts instantenously.

You get 3 different type of climates on mountain plateaus that favors different types of resource outputs to make Anno like production chains. Space is rather limited so it's always a challenge to fit things around population centers or +50% output buildings.

Lastly, each mountain is it's own map with different mix of resources and climates. Your colony will trade between each mountain and your goal is to finish building the Summit Temple on all the mountains. The campagin will bring you through about half of them and guide you through the techtree but it's dialogue is reddit and zoomer as heck. Recomend that you jump into sandbox and never meet the jesters again.

The last time I played was during the vampire DLC with the Dark culture rework, so playing Tyranny encouraged me to have as many vassals as possible. My same racial neighbor citystate was the only one I didn't conquer with pure force, I gave them a bit of special privilege as I acted a complete asshole to everyone else.

I think the devs got asked about the 'starter free city' in streams two weeks ago and said they'd try putting in an option to turn its spawning on or off, depending if it interferes with any roleplay we might have. No clue if they did yet, I haven't booted up the game

turns out holoporters+anti matter dilation + flagship product is like 50 damage from a single attack. I fucked those titans up. They killed a bunch of my enforcers but mostly got tarpitted by the combat drones from the ophanium carrier.

I kinda wanna try an interceptor jet build, human tech. My most recent run as the fallen soilder i had a quest to build cri'la witches so I ended up teleporting around packs of atlas tanks, that was fun.

This game i didn't dick around with engineers much despite them being useful in combat for cyber focused factions. Somehow this lead to me having a size 38 main city and a size 34 second city when everyone else was around size 20.

I got pretty lucky with military alliances today, aristocrat and soilder teamed up with me. the scrin tried to worm their way into my alliance by using the white muslim. First they corrupted the emulated mind, who was part of my alliance. I glassed that fuckin bot and none of my allies said shit about it.

amigra faults excavation carried me hard. my third city didn't get planted until like turn 90 but it ended up generating enough minearls for me to try triple construction yard in my expansion. My expansion ended up stronger than my main city due to having triple airbases on a height 4 tile, the loyalty bonus was fantastic and I would run with that again.

i was using the platinum scion - after I have 4 of a unit I get 40% off of that unit which is really strong, but my units either have less attacks, take more attacks or have negative speed ( eww) the game wanted fucking 450 influence to remove the speedcap off a 10th level cherub. wtf.

anyway here is me dabbing on the titans.

honestly the early alliances I set up and bought into made this save pretty easy. My first base had two abkhan spawns nearby and I lost like 8 turns of production early game dealing with them. My military was pretty weak until enforcers and then again until airbases- but my allies put in work. I had to go back and defend my home base several times throughout the game, during the end of days only a single titan made it to the desert separating my base from everyone else. I was already camping some units on the aristocrat's city, he telegraphed his betrayal pretty readily. I kind of wish he convinced the solider to go with him, he would have been a good fight.
