With Makoto, as you say he has a genuinely good base: a intelligent but humble runaway heir from the elite of society. Yet the show just hasn't utilised it enough.

The original had sketch marks and scraches that, while adding a lot of character to the design, don't really translate well when on scale or for most modern printing use (ie in different colours and sizes, on different background images/colours). The new updated design keeps most of the design ideas and just made it compatible for modern use. I am okay with that.The real problem is coming out with 5 or 6 different logos when they should have one identifyable logo unifying all Digimon IPs and have offshoots based off of that.
