From what little I've seen he's better at the itemization/build-crafting side than outright skill.

Also I realized the best way to fix summoning seals. Instead of making them turbo-ass soul cores that fondle balls in nigh every conceivable way, they should've been this game's answer to spirit ashes. Summons that stick around and fight alongside you. Would be busted because these games aren't handled for extra allied characters but dammit it'd be a neat way to take the mechanic in a new direction (for Nioh) that actually plays into it (as shogun you can actually be commander).

The worst part of the game and why I posted in the Nioh thread. It's clearly Nioh and a little bit Sekiro. You have yokai transformations and stances. But there's no pulse, meaning the game is casual (there's a cooldown per stance but it doesn't work like pulse), yokai transformations in this one lack depth and it's better to use the afterimage thing in the game (best part of the game's combat), and there are other bigger problems like lack of stagger, poor enemy design, and poor enemy placement. (lacks ambushes and interesting enemy behavior).

Wo Long is still the second (?) best-selling game in the series and still doesn't match Black Myth sales. And although Wo Long's base is controversial, it's a much better game in every metric compared to Black Myth. The thing is that the blue boys are either other players (and subject to their AI) or restricted to specific locations. Having a yokai toolbox lets you have one at any time and let you tailor it towards the encounter/what offsets your playstyle (and also be a mechanic loners like yours truly would actually interact with, no offense to the visitors). There's even a possibility of the more support options Onmyo had could make a return because you have a yokai (maybe mastery skill lets you have both yokais out at the same time) you can try to pass on buffs/healing towards.

In theory this could allow TN to be more wild with encounters too on the assumption you will have 1-2 yokais to summon but I suspect part of why the encounters might've been so mild is some technical limitations (before I did setting tinkering, having too many enemies did cause game stuttering).

The fact is, there's no such thing as a souls-like. What you're thinking of is actually a Gaiden-like. Most of souls is ripped off from Ninja Gaiden.
Dark Souls is a ripoff that was only perceived as "harder" because the movement system is vastly shittier.
NIOH and it's sequels are the true evolution of the game that started it all: Ninja Gaiden.

as for heavenly flow i use that quite a lot against human enemies, it's one of the easier parries to get off, sometimes if i feel like styling on enemies i'll do a punish the proud or the shrike as well, but those have iffier timings

Holding block and dodging is 100% intended. You have to do it after getting hit anyway because that's how you get out of block stun. It's always been how it worked in previous games.
The problem is that when you walk into some random areas and the FPS drops, your game will start dropping your inputs like crazy. And it's not like the previous games where you drop input once and that's it, here when you get input drop it could be 10s+ up of gameplay where some buttons just simply don't work.

The easiest way to see this is to do a charged attack (like true and through). In the previous games, your character will charge it up immediately. Here your character will attempt a strong attack, then after 0.2s start to charge it up. The character will do a sort of shuffle during this transition.
This is also why stuff like Moonlit Snow Redux is just very bad now, since the input is a charge motion and it lost most of its damage while the speed increase is negligible given that you have to do with the extra lag.

I have controls issues but they are nothing like that, I use kbm and there are blatant bugs in the mask, I get the wrong martial art coming out pretty frequently and multiple inputs result in dropped inputs at least half the time. Nothing fps related.

The input system definitely needed to be changed because they allowed most attacks to cancel into one another fluidly now, and there's also the weird ass "cancel everything into a grapple" thing. The other issue is probably due to migration to UE5.

Oh and I definitely should point out the quickdraw bug, which I've confirmed with some other people. Basically quickdraw motion will just cancel itself randomly while charging up sometimes. This is very noticeable to anybody who's played Nioh1/2 because quickdraw spamming on a downed enemy is a staple strategy. Here I can't do it reliably. I bet it has to do with the game trying to force you to grapple when you are too close, but fizzles.

It used to be a full set bonus for some graces in Nioh 2, now they make it a skill that you can pick up in a book and equip it.
In Nioh 2 it gives you 1 stack per different active skill used. At full stacks you get +60% damage bonus, which is very good for Nioh 2 since damage stats are dogshit in general (Death Dancer is another similar stat that gives +70% damage, but requires you not to get hit).
I don't know about the numbers in Nioh 3.
Benzaiten grace in Nioh 3 provides some bonuses for Versatility, like allowing you to gain stack for dodging and reduced ki cost per stack.

I think skill is the best attribute to max, unless you have something specific in mind to scale off constitution. But if you're primarily taking it for HP, putting 94 points spread into other attributes still raises your health while increasing other stats.

People loved versatility in 2 because it was an extremely strong and reliable bonus that encouraged a very fun style of play, so it was damn near universal on high level builds.
Now in it got gutted in strength by itself, it competes with awakening (that turns onmyo from unusable to very good), and the sets that empower it effectively replace the encouraged playstyle from variety centric to deflect centric.

Nioh 2? It's pretty good, but there's some technical depth to it.
If you don't want to delve into the nitty gritty of it then just use the elemental feather spells as a form of damaging spell. Make sure to understand enemy weak resistances and to blast them at low ki for max effect.

The 2 tricks with feathers are
1. You can ki pulse cancel them to significantly reduce the animation speed, it's probably better to look up a youtube video if you are vaguely interested.
2. Feathers are a good way to apply elemental status, which is a way to set up the Confusion status. You can melt bosses from 100 to 0 with some good understanding of confusion extension.

You don't understand because you can't appreciate good videogame gameplay and game design. Both pvp and solo games need to be fun. Unbalanced, shitty and easy gameplay is NOT fun, difficulty is what gives meaning to games.
So yes, broken clans need to be nerfed, enemies need to have higher aggression, they should buff the enemy number and amount of traps in levels, they should nerf Ninja, they should nerf deflect etc etc
It'll only be more fun with more balanced gameplay that forces people to play better and use everything the game has to offer instead of going through NG once on braindead Ninja mashing buttons and then call the game "mid" in the end

Having overpowered options becomes a problem if trying to focus towards your game being hard and victory feeling "earned", while you want the floor to be good the more important thing is the delta between the floor and the ceiling to be minimal.

The most important thing here is the floor of power hitting the "good" benchmark even if there will be more powerful options by virtue of differing playstyles. Tonfas are great, Water Sword is great, Sword of Meditation is a big truck of damage, Sloth is broken, but I find these mostly less desirable than how I currently play even if worse performance (the only sloth I have is for my Lilac because of synergy).

And the TN loot-based games are unique in wanting to be both types at the same time.

In theory all weapons work but it is definitely easier on some than others. How it works is that it stays as long as you do heavy attacks/martial arts (including frost moon trio of ki-pulse attacks, so you can use these to extend duration while changing stances), it works. You can try one light attack -> skill as needed but if you go two hits (or maybe even the 1 quick attack after a certain point) it'll drop the proficiency mode.

Likely how it does that is instead of damage reduction, it's a prot talisman but for poison, the other element-stop talismans work the same way. Definitely more on the "decent" end of the stick but I was able to get some first impressions on stress testing. Was able beat most of the shinsengumi (Okita brought out 2kat alt weapon) as well as Crucible Tour/Drawn to Yokai Incense Now for fighting the humans, I did try to limit my tools to get a baseline, I do have pocket cancer (poison mist) and pocket molasses (lightning beam) on ninja and for them I wanted a control+ group. The biggest thing I did was poke around using onmoraki (seals test, trivia the bird spawned under the floor in the yokai incense mission fighting Kasha the first summon...) and Tengen Kujuku (free elemental weapon).

On yokai? Fine as is, maybe tweak ki costs on Moonlit Snow Combo and some ki-DMG here and there of the upward variety. Performed really well against even some of the faster-ish types like Kasha and Hino-Emma even if by good fundamentals. Humans? Where the weapon's weaknesses can be felt and felt hard. It can do bullying but it definitely feels built on assumptions than on testing, and does so much slower than any other Sam weapon I've used. The issue isn't numbers but frame data and a dearth of versatility.

This is a fucking trap to make Astolfo from FGO proud. The damage and even ki damage is good, maybe even great, but the knockback on block means you can't actually pressure with it especially when the final hit WILL empty your ki so any attempts of a follow up get sucker punched.

Nearly as bait as MSC but some of its sins are just part and parcel of the mixed bag on the elemental skills. Firstly you can't early cancel into this skill and while it can be solid, how you have to cancel really late into it makes it feel really ass to use. Secondly, while this is general for all odaichi elemental variations, the accumulation just isn't fucking there. It's pulling some fist nothing-burger ass numbers here and that's embarrassing on heavy hitting single strikes like Groundquake and Retrograde Flow.
>Soaring Fowl
The timing to get the early slam feels weird by being so early, also being in low stance really hurts things but it's a good skill to keep track of. The main kick to the balls is that if you go for the skill's downward slash, you don't get to Ki-pulse (no Ki, no ki-pulse attack, no nothing, fuck you that's why).

This needs more skills or the skills to be more flexible in their stances. I think the devs thought the stance changing aspect would be enough to keep odaichis thriving but with the other enders being way more accessible and the ki-pulse attacks? This is not anywhere close to the selling point this was in Nioh 2. Especially the ki-pulse attacks; faster, gets you ki back, and more flexibility (can use it after skills), you can feel this when trying to cancel from mid-stance quick as everything but the breeze has to wait until max ki-pulse instead of being any faster. Just in Switchglaive's shadow with how they don't have any of these issues.

The ki-cost one is actually a really strong buff but hard to access because you'd want to be using better options.

Moonlit Snow Redux is your fucking bread and butter for human pressure, that with the ki-pulse attacks is your guard pressure without leaning into reduced costs via proficiency gauge on the continous attacks. Don't diss on Severing Spin/Soaring Fowl as a way to switch up your strings even if they're picky (strong ender vs quick ender). Also jump strong attacks are a nice way to proc amrita absorption and extend arts mode because its deceptively fast. Afterwards odaichi (mid)'s first quick should be able to be canceled much faster into the other skills. Finally, just extend the availability on Twin Moons/Severing Blade/Soaring Fowl so that MSR isn't the main thing to be doing because the breezes/winds can't be it without heavy speed/ki-cost buffs.

The other affixes are mostly specific to your needs (want more DMG reduction, ki recovery or amrita/life on amrita) but something you should fit is DMG Reduced (Amrita Absorption) as that's 20% DMG reduction (multiplicative so .8 dmg becomes .64 dmg, not .6).

Beginning my Unarmed run this morning. Jakatsu Baba was a fun fight. Her grab was a bit iffy, but other than that it was a good fight. I found that staying in Sam and deflecting seems to be the way to go. most of the better options are drop-only for now, and there are none of those orange triangle weapons to add extra lines to items, so for weapons it's just basic bitch melee damage, melee ki damage, an element imbue, and then another more specific ki damage one. ideally you will want an item with a green (rare) perk for melee damage then put everything else on it. a green element imbue can be good, but it struggles without having the matching element status infliction on both your accessories and you can't reforge accessories yet either.

for armor there are a ton of options, but you can't go wrong with defense and enough toughness to get to the best color (it's like poise in dark souls, i forget the number i think it's 230 or something?). i personally am a fan of speed up perks; 50% ki or less triggers all the time but is short duration, amrita gained is similar, and critical happens all the time in bossfights and lasts like 30 seconds, it's nice. and equipment drop rate, nothing saves more time than that.

I was focusing more on my build at peak power (doesn't lean hard into Ground Sweeper/Swirling Snow) instead of testing fundamentals. It went pretty smooth between slathering them in poison/lightning, even had a couple of confusion procs with tengen's ele-weapon. Okita was cutting a bit close and I was playing sloppy as hell but still got him on my 2nd try in the mission. If anything I might keelhaul the free seals aspect I have because Poison Gas is faster than the sickly cock, also opening up a seals slot for more valuable passives.

Farming just a few specific enemies is going to be really boring really fast. Just run through different battle scrolls and go around the open world killing and collecting crap. Thundering Calamity is arguably the best ninjitsu you can get, biggest bomb is a ton of damage but requires setup (likely from this btw), this is quick instant lightning laser so its really, really easy to use. Glacial Calamity isn't too hard to make work but Thunderous is nigh riskless if you know positioning.
Shrapnel Bomb is pretty good for ranged damage + fire accumulation, splash helps with the few times the game sends multiple enemies at you. Fire Shuriken is more efficient (hold more + faster charge) if okay with waiting for the explosion, I prefer shrapnel bombs in my NG playthrough.
Shuriken/Kunai = safe ranged damage, mostly if you like playing more defensive because of how long it'll take to empty the ammo on these.

Ninjitsu Link is underpriced and fucking awesome if you're big into Skill, if I recall correctly this bastard is late game though. Ninjitsu kill refunds ninjitsu so your laser can just clear through trash mobs/finish off revenants cleanly.

24-25% universal melee damage (front or back) if you get stealth on your titles/ranged weapon/accessory. Also comes with backstab damage, main hiccup is that its a 6 pc bonus so you can't get another set's 7 pc bonus. If not as optimized its still 20%+ DMG.

Heavy fucking ninja armor that is mostly melee damage focused but comes with some ninjitsu gauge charge to help them better accent it (Cicada Shell I hear is good), technically more than Last Ninja but only if hitting backstab. The big thing to note is that this is a 4 pc endeavor once you get the yasakani so it's perfect to pair with a 7 pc grace bonus (like Inari).

It's more a QoL-esque set than something truly amazing but is a 4pc wonder like Kusarigama, just remember to have amrita on strong attack and it'll save you an affix on your gloves + comes with ki regen. The guardian spirit skill bonuses are nice cherries on top but you're taking it for the 10% DMG/Ki-Regen on amrita absorption (estimate on the ki-regen).

Fair enough, that's likely the best melee thing you can do even if it's more melee/ninjutsu splash, alternatively you could look into Benzaiten's Art of Defense + Versatility (lets you play with a 6pc bonus as you don't really need the 7pc for Benzaiten). There's also the Hiruko set (Matchless Resentment) but I haven't gotten to the point of building into it properly (and likely plays into the inari style of ninjitsu/melee splash).

The one piece of advice I can give if you want more variety in guardian spirit is Shadowclad with extended elemental weapon bonuses (either soul core, accessory, shami choro, etc.), they let you have direct control on your elemental weapon but last really short without the aforementioned buff.

Status affliction bucket and you can't have multiple of that on the same soul core (so you can't have it on a Tsurana-oona core to not need Fujiwara clan bonus if you're liking it). That said, Hammer/Axe are overtuned to hell and back. Earthcarver doing like twice what ever other weapon do in a full combo is comically stupid, and if you want a heavy punish Tornado Edge can just disappear a boss' HP. Rumbling Earth is also insane on wake up.

Sekiro can be played offensively, but trading the original style for a Sekiro-based combat is lame. OG Onimusha could be played lame, which was a problem especially in sequences that broke the enemies' AI. But the sequences also improved Issen. In OG, there was only one type of boss where you could block Issen (they call it deflect in the new game), the sequels not only expanded so you can block Issen everything that has a hitbox, but also have variations of the same system. All based on offensive playing. I really like how Nioh is KT doing their own thing despite the market.

Ninja 2kat is pretty shit. It's very gimped numerically and deals among the lowest damage in the game. There's one skill (strong -> weak) that deals some damage, but also has pretty shit tracking for whatever reason. It also has water sword but you can't really "abuse" it like Samurai since there's no cum meter in Ninja mode and most likely it will cause enemies to face you, so no backstab damage.
Ninja kat is very good, several attacks that put you behind enemies, kick slash is just tons of ki + hp damage.

Against humans just Windstorm -> Winter Wind repeat. It will guard break enemies.
Against Yokai you need to nail God of Wind III, which is a very steady source of ki/hp damage.
2kat got massively buffed since nioh 2 (where it was already a good weapon) since benefits a lot from the ability to cancel martial art into each other, notably after Winter Wind since the gap is practically air tight.
It does have reasonable Frost Moon attacks, but Winter Wind's very low recovery and forward movement are still better.

You want to go to the style switching fast/early in the fight as the buff duration's pretty short, can make that part of your combo as high stance is pretty good against humans/poking horns. Intellect is secretly best dump stat for once you have the minimum magic/stamina and 99 Skill because buff duration is really good (15% or so at 40 points).

There doesn't need to be rarity and item levels at all, that's the thing, Diablo loot is awful. It's a badly designed system so they recognize this and make all sorts of filtering options instead of just designing a better system in the first place. What's the point of anything that's not purple on your first run? It just exists to be turned into resources so why not just have the enemy drop all those resources directly instead? They should remove both rarity levels and item levels and just keep one consistent upgrade level, that's all that's needed. The RNG based aspect of the game should be turned into it's own separate item that drops and goes into it's own inventory, there's no reason to attach RNG to the weapons/armor themselves. Basically they should do something like Bloodborne's blood gem system. The fun of build making is customizing all your gear and you don't need random weapon drops to achieve that. I still love Nioh and all of TN's modern action RPGs anyways but I still can't understand their obsession with doing equipment this way.

it's supposed to unlock for purchase at the sudama in the rift after you finish that quest but i guess it wasn't
