I've almost never used the bow or guns because of Ninjutsu. Easier to toss a couple Fire Shurikens and Shrapnel Bombs at dudes instead since they're virtually unlimited compared to only being able to carry a couple arrows/bullets.
They should give the ranged weapons a development pass to make them more interesting tools.

A lot of non directly aimed stuff just won't reach sniping harrassers though, especially when they're vertically offset (which is almost always).
Of course you can reach all of them, but it's kind of a pain in the asshole to have them sniping you rather than just kill them preventively.
And for that use, rifle feels optimal. Bow has a niche to make destructables explode through fire arrows, which is better than nothing. And hand cannon.. is kinda pointless?

I'd like to see them become usable in melee personally. Not as independent weapons, just quickshot as combo enders.
That would make all those "x on ranged hit" affixes much more useful. Not to mention the sets.

It's driving me insane. Cuckoo's Call literally can't be combo'd into from lights making it all but worthless despite being able to combo into heavy attacks with block inputs.

This is the same patch where they just fixed split staff having this problem where it couldn't combo off lights into martial arts. It took me 5 seconds of using odachi to notice this problem. What is going on with TN?

It's death was greatly exaggerated. What happened is that the buffs get reduced extension on hit, and, from what I can tell (just woke up and with onmyo debuffs its hard to tell), the stat-debuffs (sloth/life leech/deinvigorate/fujiwara/etc.) can't be extended at all or even harsher. So you still have infinite confusion but now can't stack life leech on top of that, and need to be a bit more aggressive (but SG was doing fine without invoking cylcone).

Hellspark Talisman/Thunderous Calamity now proc but take a huge/all of your spirit. Some of the other big costs like glacial, tempestous, hellfire, all seem to be cheaper. Elemental weapons got fucking hit on the crossfire though, they'll chew through your spirit force like they're fire shurikens instead of familiar contact damage (one exception being advancing storm martial art). Not even sure the intent because while Kurama Sword Dance (wind) is expensive, Advancing Storm/Death From Above (Water) are still cheap.

Soul-matching to +15 just got a lot more expensive for those who did exploit to it, went from 1.025 million to 3.17 million (not this is for +15, +10 is unchanged from what I recall). Maybe they removed the flag that caused the prices to be normal for those that dropped their way to +15 while heavily reducing its cost?

Nah that never actually happened in previous games, even ethereals needed to be made into a set to be worth switching to, and the +x shit almost invariably lagged well behind in drops compared to what you could build up to by consuming drops.

In 1 and 2 your ranged weapon was pretty much essential. You'd have missions where there was an obvious big dude or a decent sized group of dudes you had to get through, and there would be a few guys with rifles or cannons arrayed around them. Usually they were at angles that you couldn't see if you only followed the main path. Game rewarded you for exploring by giving you line of sight to take them from range, or give you backstab opportunities before jumping down. That is something that wo long did well, by exploring you found lots of shortcuts or hidden paths to bring you behind groups so you could get an advantage when you started combat.

I actually specced fully into ranged in Wo Long. Every single buff I could get. It was surprisingly effective. Faster bosses like Lu Bu meant my kit lagged a bit behind, but exploration was a blast. On Hit effects for ranged was really nice on bosses, since actually nailing headshots was sometimes outright impossible.
I was out there playing a 3rd person shooter absolutely murdering everything before they could get too close. It was a very weird, but also fun way to play. Lots of unlimited ammo, regen ammo from grapples, all that stuff. I am glad I ran with ranged for once.
Nioh really hasnt had much support for it. I have looked into it, and there is a set and grace for it, but the ranged weapons are too slow, just as you said. They really cannot be weaved into combos like the RotR pistol or how fast the Bow was in Wo Long. Shame too, would be fun to get a couple headshots in while Hiruko is changing elements.

This was not soul matched to a +9, and while Revs can drop copies of their gear, they typically only drop a flat 160, never a 160+ something. Also none of the missions were crucible missions which just furthers the "huh?".

I do like being able to change into another build on the fly, complete with its own weapons.
Frost moon is great.
Deflecting is great, especially since they don't force you to use it like in wo shlong and rotr.
Making ninjutsus chargable was a cool idea, and I love the new movement ones like lightning dash.
Air combat's pretty decent, especially if you're a ninj.
A lot of cool new bosses.
New yokai are sick, despite them reusing the jailers and underusing virtually everything else imo. Hopefully that ratio evens out in the coming ng+s.

Even worse too, that input eating thing that happens also happens when I release the aim button so my bow/rifle never actually drops.
Idk if I have a perk I am not noticing, but I did find that after shooting a rifle, immeadiately letting go of aim skips the reload and drops the rifle. It does make it a lot faster.

I like the Ninja 1kat flaming shoryuken (Sky Piercer Fire) and "teleports behind you kicks you in the nuts" Shadow Cyclone to Kickslash combo. Sam 1kat has some neat stuff too, like Swift Step Heavy and the classic Shadow Sword Light in Darkness. Heaven Flash Lightning is pretty cool too.
