In his words, she absolutely is a crybaby but he does find it believable since she basically lost both parents and is an only child, so she's had to cope with an empty family home for a long while. Even more important to understand is that it happened when she was young, and considering how much of a caring girl she is, the aftermath of her parent's death is very plausible. The one thing he mentions the reason why he decided to marry her is that in her last pre-marriage heart events, she massively improves and stops becoming so skittish at everything. It's actually pretty nice seeing her learn to accept her parent's death and know that they'd be proud of what she's achieved after taking over their vineyard. What's funny is that it reminds me of how some girls wish Shane's events turned out, because with Sophia massively turning her life and characteristics around for the better it's a debatably much better written story of "I can fix her".
