One the big cons of this game IMO is the fact it's an existing IP being used to make the roster, which impacts the characters people choose to play more than other hero shooters. For example with Overwatch, sure you'll still have your people who hardlock a character based on aesthetics or skins or whatnot, but that population is less because it's an original IP. The players don't have an existing basis of enjoyment of a character, and therefore are more willing to select more "meta" picks to win games. Rivals, on the other hand, has a larger population of people who want to play their favorite superhero from the comics or movies. You have someone who exclusively plays Spider-Man because he's their favorite, even if his abilities and combos require a higher skill floor to pull off - in another hero shooter, more low skill players would be turned off by that and grow fascination with an easier hero to play. But in Rivals that's less likely because the person wants to play Spider-Man, because its fucking Spider-Man. This in turn creates more shit teammates who aren't willing to swap to win games. I think the devs may have realized this and that's why we're getting more "niche" characters such as Angela or Elsa Bloodstone.
