>>559742418>can't shoot but move forward fasterno that's how you do sprint. you need a reasonable trade off for the slight speed boost it gives you. that trade off is that your weapon isn't always ready. you're taking a big risk for added mobility, which adds a new element to fights since now you've got more options in how you respond to an enemy engagement. you no longer just have to stand there and hope your enemy misses their shots if they get the jump on you. you have the option to reposition and reengage from a more favourable angle. it makes the game more complex, more challenging, and more engaging. claiming that 'well they can just have it affect your accuracy instead of putting your weapon all the way down' is complete retardation. you're literally acknowledging that you understand why the weapon has to go down in the first place. you're just asking for a slightly more forgiving version of it i.e. you want people to be spamming sprint more often with less risk. also people seem to conveniently always forget that slide allows you to instantly ready your weapon while you're sprinting. so you have a solution to those situations where you sprint into someone who has their weapon already up. responding to that scenario is a matter of skill. it's in your control. also i don't know why you're bringing up reach as if it has any bearing on the sprint argument, since sprint in that game was an ability, not a core mechanic that everyone had access to. that's what made sprint complete shit in that game. the only two games to do sprint right in halo are 5 and infinite. this is what's frustrating about talking about sprint in these games. people keep focusing on the worst implementations of it. if it was so unbelievable game breaking people would not have praised 5 and infinite's gameplay at launch, which is what happened. don't try and rewrite history and tell me otherwise...
yeah, I'm not reading that

>>559746158Introducing a forward boost to Halo changed the nature of a number of interactions-CQC weapon users get in closer but there is no sideways or backwards boost to balance it out--a fleeing opponent gets to live longer because now you can no longer move at top speed while firing--the change above means a teammate intercepting a chase can more easily save their pal because the pursuing player has to stop sprinting just to shoot--more instances of tag instead of someone moving backwards and firing because not firing and running is even a bit faster--in any scenario involving attacking a specific spot/objective the attackers get a forward boost to reach the spot faster but defenders don't get a sideways or backwards boost to balance it--if 2 players notice a 3rd coming they can't strafe away to maintain distance at the same speed as the approaching player can sprint at them while also being able to freely fire at one anotherThere's an audience for everything as they say, so this isn't about rewriting history. Even so "gun down, move forward faster" and all mechanics later introduced around that change, should not have replaced non-Ability Halo. A change doesn't have to break the game to be regarded as a bad or needless change. The post I initially replied to wasn't just talking about skill, but also about fun. You'll find people who like all sorts of offerings, but like I said before there are many modes where the gameplay becomes very different and that's where something like Sprint belongs. The two always could have existed and still can. Since the first game Halo had your more standard gameplay and then wildness like beating people with skulls. But for as much as I say the two can co-exist, it's also true that a Spartan would be able to move fast in any direction while still being able to fire, so it's more like all three can co-exist. So as I said before, there are just better options for Halo.
Or we just don't have sprint at all and save ourselves all that headache.
>>559747485I would welcome that, I'd just rather have something more appropriate for Halo's super-soldier premise IF Microsoft is going to continue mandating some form of speed-up mechanic in the games.

Have a Covenant-themed version that shoots plasma rifle rounds and can charge into plasma pistol EMP blasts. Brute version, just slap it with dual brute shots and have the blades stick out in front like tusks so you can ram stuff. The sky is NOT the limit. Add rocket packs and wings so that if you drive fast enough, you can get air and use it to glide around when you deploy the boost. The mongoose is such a versatile vehicle, I don't understand why devs and modders haven't gone absolutely crazy with it. Just slap stuff on it and experiment. Heck even mount a turret where the passenger is or let you deploy timed/proximity mines as you skirt in front of a Scorpion or warthog.

Anons I have been playing halo and enjoying this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2915693904&searchtext= with my friend. Is there anything comparable for halo 2,3, odst and reach? We are long time halo fans and this mod is so fucking fun for campaign. We were thinking of using the lore accurate mod for reach. Looking for any suggestions.. we would love to play CE / 2 with 4 players but that doesn't seem possible either
>>559779060>and all would be forgivenNah. At best it would be a good Halo, but have some bells and whistles attached to it in terms of gameplay/cosmetics that clearly draw from Destiny/Marathon.Even if it wasn't Bungie, anyone making a Halo game now has a massive advantage in terms of hindsight and feedback. Plus Infinite setting the stage for both the positive reception to bringing back a lot of the Halo feel in campaign, but also the negative reaction to some awful monetization and content schedule ideas. But whoever is making the next mainline Halo basically succeeds or fails based on whether higher-ups at Microsoft mandate terrible things again. Even if Pierre wants to be faithful to what existed prior to the derailing effect of the "too traditional" moment, he, Bungie or anyone else given the Halo IP is subject to the whim of whether executives feel like trend-chasing again.

Dust and EchoesXBOX led the industry on many features we now take for granted.>The reality was that we were PC developers, PC game developers for the most part, trying to understand the console business. And the console business, you have to remember, was ruled by the Japanese at that time. They’d controlled the console business since the mid-’80s. All the biggest companies were Japanese. The biggest franchises were Japanese. And yet in the PC world, where we came from, there were incredibly exciting things happening with multiplayer games, first-person shooters, that kind of thing>When we talked to the press, especially the console press, they would say, “Who’s your Mario? Your games look dark and gritty, not bright and colorful like console games.” And what that meant was they didn’t look Japanese. >For one thing, we had a hard drive. Hard drives don’t get cheaper. They just get bigger. They still cost, at that time, 50 bucks. It’s just how much space you get for that. Worse, we had an Intel part and an Nvidia part. We didn’t own the IP for the CPU or the GPU. There was no way we could integrate those parts together to shrink the machine. So definitely on the hardware side, we were losing money>Ed Fries is probably one of a handful of people still alive who can program the Atari 2600>Bungie’s going broke—not an unusual call at the time, since developers and publishers were often going out of business—and they needed to be acquired. Ed Fries suggests buying Bungie and Halo in 2000 because he liked Myth. Bungie considered it a leap of faith because they liked Ed Fries.>Steve Jobs was mad that Ed Fries bought Bungie, and he had to call him to calm him down, and suggested a Mac port >Bungie built Halo in 9 months, copy pasted hallways were due to having to make it to the Xbox launch >Ed Fries insisted on making networked multiplayer—LAN work on Xbox
OG XBOX? SOULEd Fries (Xbox)>Ed was in college in 1984 when the game industry famously melted down. All these game companies went out of business, including the one I worked for. I had to get a real job, so I went to work at Microsoft. They put me on the first version of Excel for Windows. I was the youngest of seven programmers. We had a really difficult task to fight Lotus. Lotus 1-2-3 was the biggest PC software product in the world, and Lotus was the biggest PC software company>The head of the games group was leaving. They were looking for someone to run it. To me that was perfect. I was super excited about taking that job. I talked to my bosses and they said–multiple VPs called me into their offices. One said I was committing career suicide. Another told me, “Why would you leave Office, one of the most important parts of this company, to go work on something no one cares about?” That’s what they said about the games business in the mid-’90s>Seamus Blackley, Kevin Bachus, Otto Berkes, and Ted Hase. [The original Xbox instigators] were from the DirectX group, and so of course they wanted to make this thing called the DirectX Box, or Xbox for short. It was very different from what we shipped. It was a Windows PC that was in a box that made it look more like a console, and then pretended to be a console. You would stick a PC game in it and it would quietly install it in the background then it would run. It would behave like putting in a disc to play a game. That was the original proposal>They proposed something very much like–completely custom hardware, custom software, effectively a PlayStation. We proposed something that was very much like a Windows PC

You can't name anything else that used similar lighting effects (such as the flashlight) with specular highlights and bumpmapping before Halo in 2002>Microsoft wanted to force Bungie to ship Halo 2 a year before it's ready, and Ed Fries threatened to walk out unless they gave Bungie an extra year>Max Hoberman helps design Xbox Live and matchmaking lobbies>Marty "Halo 2 was so successful that we hit our profit cap for the initial deal we had worked out with Microsoft on day one">Todd Howard loved Xbox, but didn't know how to translate the controls to controller. tricks to combat 64mb memory on the original Xbox was to reboot the entire console without us noticing>Doom 3 had co-op campaign, they even went as far as make alternate levels specifically to accommodate a second player>The Xbox API was similar to DirectX version 8.1, developed jointly between Microsoft and Nvidia>Nvidia owned the chipset which meant Microsoft couldn't shrink it to reduce the price of the console. They also got a royalty fee when the 360 emulated it>On the hardware side, everything is coming together. The factory in Mexico is all ramped up, and the one in Hungary is coming up to speed now>Ed Fries: If they really wanted me to make my business profitable, I’d put out a PlayStation version of Halo and be profitable tomorrow. That would be my response. But they didn’t like to hear that.>Peter Moore: "The hard drive in every Xbox killed us; we we're still selling it at $199 and the hard drive was like $70," Moore told UK newspaper The Guardian. "That's why we prematurely left the original Xbox, because the more we were selling – there was still great demand – it was killing us, and there was no way to bring the price down... To this day, people still believe we left the Xbox too early, but it was purely for financial purposes."
>>559845045Peter Moore (Xbox 360)>The Xbox GPU had twice the vertex pipelines of a Geforce 3. It was in fact better.>When asked about Xbox 2, Moore stated "It is, simply put, an awesome machine.">"Microsoft was afraid Sony was going to own the living room.">Peter Moore used Dreamcast as a career stepping stone to go to Microsoft>ATI made the GPU for the much cheaper GameCube which was just as graphically impressive as the Xbox. CPU+GPU on a single die. 360, PS3 and Wii didn't use x86 either, they all use some variation of IBM's Power architecture>Xbox 360 API uses an API similar to DX9, with only few extensions from DX10/11, like texture arrays or hardware tessellation>Microsoft doubled the Xbox 360's RAM, after Tim Sweeney showcased the difference between Gears of War builds on 256MB and 512MB. Costing Microsoft approximately $1bn>Xenos was factually the first commercial GPU to have unified shaders, and remained the only one until Nvidia released the 8000 series in late 2006. It wasn't possible for any contemporary GPU to do what the 360 was doing in 2005.>Xbox 360 gives developers a full 512MB to do with as they will. PlayStation 3 on the other hand divides its internal RAM into two 256MB portions, with one section dedicated entirely to the NVIDIA-derived graphics technology>Xbox 360 launch - Project Gotham Racing 3, Geometry Wars, Perfect Dark Zero, Condemned>It's hard to understate the power of Halo during that period, and then of course Gears of War, which became the tip of the spear for the Unreal Engine 3. So you had Halo, you had Gears of War>Peter Moore wanted Japanese devs to work on Xbox 360. NAMCO, CAPCOM, SEGA, SQUARE-ENIX, FROMSOFTWARE. PS3 being harder to develop for was a major factor

It was supposed to have been simple. We give them Halo 3, and they give us Bungie. It turned out they wanted us to make more Halo so we agreed to make Halo 4 (which became Reach) and we would help with the Peter Jackson Halo game (which became ODST). Don Mattrick came in (replacing Shane Kim) and started playing hardball with Bungie. Then it turned out the top management at MGS decided that the holiday 2009 season had no major titles for Xbox and delayed the release of ODST and also upped the price to $60>Ensemble Studios started to work on Halo (having been acquired by Microsoft in 2001), first with a Halo MMO, and then Halo Wars. >>559845957Don Mattrick (Xbox One)>"We had people who we hired who hated Halo because of 'X,'" says O'Connor. "But what that really meant was, 'I feel like this game could be awesome because of 'Y input' that I'm going to bring into it. I want to prove it, and I'm passionate about proving it.' So we ended up with a bunch of people who were genuinely passionate about the product. That is a huge advantage, and that helped in hiring and forming our team.">"It's during that time you're questioning yourself: 'How is this going to work, will it be as I envision it in my head?" says Holmes. For Halo 4, he says there were a few epiphany moments that helped boost the morale of the team. One of the earlier ones that Holmes recalls was when the team completed a small piece of the Halo experience that he described as a "very traditional" Halo. User research showed that people thought it was a lot of fun, and it showed that the team was capable of making a Halo game that was true to what the series was about>343 scrapped it, Holmes says, as it was too traditional. >>559858776CE:A is based on the Gearbox port, H2A kills the licensed music and replaced it with garbage, Halo 3 and ODST are played straight, and I don't have anything at all to say about Reach.

>>559898805>Atriox needs to be stronger than ChefI respectfully disagree, not because "muh chief" but rather because Atriox is too forced. They do this every game now. The Didact was too strong for Chief. Locke was put of nowhere depicted as on par with Chief (no I don't care that bookshit tried to retcon this) and Empress Cortana was very clearly tok strong for him. And now Atriox is too strong. It's all so tiresome.
Having a blast with Marathon, bros
the poster above does not exist, it's just an AI bot I programmed to occasionally bump this the thread to keep it from dying. No need to thank me, clearly I need to work out some kinks to keep its content more on topic and less irrelevant.

Fear not. Halo Infinite's air support has arrived to save /hg/.

Er...never mind. Perhaps /hg/ is doomed after all...
>>559899240Didact and Empress Cortana are just meme shit and I don't care about Halo 4 and 5 story at all, retcon that shit. But Atriox could be if not stronger then equal to Chief.

If you live in Nevada, reminder to NOT vote for Marty in the Republican primaries this summer.
Is Marty still running? I thought he gave up after the last poll? Either way getting old sucks. Looking at his Halo days compared to now is genuinely sad.

The history leading to the modern Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers (CG-47 class) represents a convergence of several key technological advancements in U.S. Navy propulsion, weaponry, and combat systems. While the Ticonderoga class itself uses conventional gas turbine propulsion, its development was shaped by the broader evolution of naval warfare, starting with nuclear propulsion's influence on extended operations and fleet design, progressing through the integration of guided missiles as primary armaments, the creation of the Aegis combat system for multi-threat management, and the adoption of vertical launch systems (VLS) for enhanced flexibility. This narrative traces that path, culminating in the Ticonderoga class's current form, where surviving ships incorporate advanced upgrades for ballistic missile defense (BMD), integrated air and missile defense, and multi-mission roles.
Yeah, I think I'm just going to filter that word.
>Yeah, I think I'm just going to filter that word.
That's okay, there are plenty of other ways to describe that class of ships.
