Finally tried raiding. I though it'd get into it with quickplay, but that were 100% only strikes. Wing 1 fully, bombs and cannons boss was somewhat difficult, took like 5 tries for us noobs. And wing 4 up to Daimos. He filtered us for like 1+ hour, feeling tired. Yes, I did launch myself into spikes and off the platforms with move attacks, yes it was funny.
Also now have even more garbage items for some kind of achivos or something.
What's the build to do side mechanics like hands kiting or cannons? Takes too long to find people, I'd rather do it myself.

The remaining masteries seem like insane grinding without any noticeable benefits. Why would I invest days into maxing out some HoT track the results of which are limited to one specific map I already completed?

I'll be getting my final raid step soon, it was the last track to unlock overall. Mastery points aren't that hard to get once you deliberately go for them. Icebrood saga is the most annoying one, obviously. SotO and Janthir you just need to do 75% activities on expansion's maps + strikes. Get turtle if you haven't done it yet. Do all of the Adventures, they are easy to get, besides HoT, most give 1-2 points. HoT needs huge amount of exp to level them too, but that can be shortened dramatically, by doing the adventure and event, NOT clicking the bouncy chest in the corner to let them stack, applying EXP Booster and then opening them.
Reminder you can filter by mastery points in achievement list, by clicking on gear. That way it's quite easy to find the simple ones, like on map, adventure etc..
iirc you also will get a lot of spirit shards after reaching max mastery for the colored track, because exp keeps counting in the background, even if track is not maxed.

The only masteries I ever registered as annoying or grindy are Core Tyria and Icebrood Saga.

Core Tyria sucks because there's no good reason to get much Core exp outside of Fractals and the Mastery Points are annoying to get, but you can't really ignore it because all the tracks are pretty mandatory. Icebrood Saga just doesn't have very many excess Mastery Points so you have to go out of your way to get some of the tedious ones that you would ignore in any other expansion.

All the others fill up pretty naturally because I get the exp for that expansion just playing it for fun anyway, and there are enough excess MPs that I can just ignore the ones I don't want to do.

Looking at everything in GW2 purely in terms of efficiency and opportunity cost is the quickest way to hate it.
But even putting that aside, you pretty much break even. You "lose" 80g by consuming the boost and you'd "lose" 80g by using tomes to level your next character instead, but then you get the shared inventory slot which is worth something in the ballpark of 250g, or 200g on sale, worth of gems.

I really dont get the hate about the fashion templates, i find them super handy. Having two templates to mess with allows me to freely play around and larp my characters like theyre in shining force, the first set being what they look like pre promotion with lower quality armor/weapons and the second set being post promotion with higher quality armor/weapons. It even works with the elite spec system going from a core spec and 'promoting' to an elite spec.

It’s basically two things:
1, they made it a lot more clunky to make small changes to what you’re already wearing, like you need to save and apply a whole template just to change dyes, to turn your outfit on and off, to change just your weapon skin, and 2, they made it kind of mutually exclusive with the old system of storing different looks on different gear templates. Like if you have 9 gear templates and 9 fashion templates, you have 9 saved looks, not 18

If they’d just left the original menu accessible (and it’s still in the game and still works, you just can’t access it) then the first complaint would be solved and people could just ignore fashion templates if they wanted to use the old way.
The second one would be solved if they made the templates work like outfits where you could turn them on and off without changing the gear in your inventory.

Ultimately the problem is that they completely half-assed it and instead of putting in the work to add a new feature, they put like one programmer on it for a week or two and told them to make a minimum viable product version of a fashion template that just piggybacks on all the existing features. If you didn’t have a bunch of outfits already stored on a bunch of gear templates then it’s actually not too bad, but for a lot of people it’s effectively worthless, and it was supposed to be half of a quarterly update that we got in lieu of actual content.

Yeah thief probably doesn't have the kit for it, I run guardian for this (lumi or fb for the elite spec) and go with signet of mercy for insta-revive, merciful intervention and shield 5 (needs trait) for partial aoe revive (can be specced to like 60% revive total), and bow of truth to drop a long range heal wherever it's needed.

Achievement hunting isn't grinding. Each achievement is unique and only needs to be completed once. What I meant by grinding is stuff like the gift of blood/venom/dust/... etc. There's no natural way of gathering these crafting materials. Either you hope for single ones of the base materials to drop randomly from events or you do the same repetitive gold farming routine every day to buy them from tp. Either way it takes months.

The Aurene variants aren't really all that expensive or time-consuming individually - about half as expensive as the Mjolnir there. It just adds up to a lot of time and materials if you're trying to do a full set of them or something insane like that (plus the initial cost of the Legendary is pretty high to begin with).
