I think one of the most unique things Bungie has with Marathon is the ability to add multiple gameplay styles that would still work with Marathons original extraction shooter design.Like Bungie could create a battle royal game mode similar to Apex within Marathon. Arc Raiders can't do this because of the games limited design. Marathon at its core is an extraction shooter but Bungie made the game so versatile that different modes could be and should be added.

I feel like a broken record but saying this but people are truly trying to like Marathon, people love everything about the game like the setting and world except for the PvPvE extraction focus along with the increasingly demanding objectives. Literally just make the extraction game mode less of a priority, make a 5-6 hour long campaign in the vein of something like Halo 3 ODST, add on a standardized multiplayer component with Team Deathmatch and the like while repurposing the existing maps to fit that purpose for 6v6, and from there you have a perfect entry point for a wider audience.

Other characters have abilities that only work when you're in a team, meanwhile his whole kit revolves around him. Recon should be his counter on paper, but Assassin gets so many tools that shorten AND prolong his cloak that he can win just through having shorter ability cool downs. If Recon fucks up her one chance to kill him she's at a big disadvantage the rest of the fight. I do hope the other shells get solo-oriented buffs cause I don't want that mode to just be Assassin Thief only mode.

this game will probably lose a lot of sweats and streamers over the following 3-4 weeks.a lot of players are almost maxxed out on traders and there isnt anything else to do after. pvp is fun but you have no space to stash your wins anywhere.it can also get stale to have the same algae ponds or outer perimeter outpost fights for 10h a day (that are most of the time decided by longshot or wstr).between the tight stash space, high trader prices and low selling prices you are also really artificially slowed down economically.I dont mind the balance per sey and it avoids the whole "10 thicc cases with 50 fully kitted weapons and 300 million rouble" situation from tarkov where you just senselessly keep filling your stash with shit you will NEVER use like a retard, but it also severely limits the means by which you can try out different kits, mods or builds as well. I left another team alive at exfil and felt like a magnagnimous god.Went in with randoms, one of our teammates managed to sneak up to another team exfiling and left with them. Me and the other guy went for another exfil with 1 minute left. Another team showed up before us, but was basically slauthered by UESC, i killed one runner and managed to kill the bots, and we found the other 2 guys squirming on the floor. I used VOIP to ask my teammate to leave them alive and we all left at the last second. Felt pretty good about it. I don't really fell the vibe of "kill on sight" and sometimes making your own rules and actually trying to communicate helps me a lot in how much i enjoy the game

I HARD DISAGREE with this article, am I the minority?Genuinely, if you play another game like arc raiders or even challenge based progression in other shooters, these are far and away better contract. The main faction ones have interesting reasons behind all of them, and they reward you with cool dialogue and interesting lore. Some of the later ones have multiple steps that get you into tense fights as you intersect with players doing similar ones and its genuinely so cinematic.Some of the sekiguchi ones on outpost had me holding my breath. So then you’re forced to load back in, make your way across the entire map again, and do it all over again. Sometimes I feel like a lot of it boils down to complete luck. Marathon is a good game. I went in skeptical, followed the development drama, but have enjoyed the final product. A lot of the hate seems forced. I got a friend of mine to play, a jaded and competitive Destiny player, and he said he was hooked after the first raid. I think Bungie tried to show that it has learned something from its mistakes by crediting Fern for her art and by being so responsive to players. Overall it’s been pleasantly surprising, and it’s very funny to see utter frauds and scammers like “Grummz” trash talk the work.

Honestly, it seems like there would be room in the market for a great premium FPS campaign. There used to be so many of them. But what recent games even fit into that genre, apart from the recent reboot DOOM games? People are probably hungry for those types of games. Seems like a real opportunity. And who better to do it than Bungie? They were pioneers and masters in that genre. But yes, yes, I know the real answer. They can’t milk those games for that sweet MTX money.
