It's not enough that SEGA listened and pandered to its haters for 15 years both online and in game content. No, they still need to take it further: you are not allowed to like it. They are never satisfied. They don't like it, so they don't want you to enjoy any of it either. They need you to be just as miserable. Both eras have shit and both eras have gold. Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Generations are both amazing games. Sonic 2 and Sonic Colors are fantastic too. But Sonic Labyrinth is a existentialist slog just like Shadow 05 is. Sonic 06 is fucking terrible but frankly so is Sonic Blast. Use the "classic" design for a game that they're considered fit for, use the Adventure designs for another, use the Boom designs for another, use some other new design in another occasion. My ideal games that I fantasize about will never materialize the exact way I imagine them. When I was a teenager I spent a lot of time angry that we weren't getting muh SA3 (whatever that would even mean) with this or that feature, I saw certain games as responsible for "killing SA3" and didn't even consider giving them a chance. But I've come to realize that when I first played the classics, the Adventure games, and the Dimps games I wasn't concerning myself with any of that. I just enjoyed the games as they are and took whatever enjoyment I could out of it. So when I got played 2006 and Unleashed in recent years I gave them a chance with that mentality and found that they have more things than I expected that I enjoy, things they kept from the Adventure games and in some cases even improved on, and I got a better understanding of what I like and dislike about them, or how they could improved to fit my taste better.
