I am not having a blast

I'm predicting optimistically a 5-10k peak playercount bump on Friday caused by people logging on to check Cryo out, followed by a 15k drop across saturday/sunday as the controversy that is currently burning about Cryo archive being inaccessible in multiple ways to most players effectively drives broad swathes of players to quit.

Let’s Occam’s razor this shit. What’s more likely? A or B

A. They limit ranked and cryo to the weekend 2with squads because they hate people that work weekends and play solo?

B. They recognize that for the health of the game there needs to be limited time modes to keep queue times low and keep the loot economy healthy?

Part of me wants them to allow solo players to queue into cryo with absolutely zero other changes made so they can get annihilated by raid level npcs and puzzles because you know they would immediately go post about how they should change the map and the entire vision of the game to their your playstyle.

If we play this weekend and there doesn’t seem to be any actual reason why these things couldn’t just be open at all times then you can complain but doing so without even experiencing it first hand makes no sense.

Go play whatever it is you want this game to be a copy of and let the rest of us enjoy something fresh and new.

I’m going to bed so I look forward to reading you cry more in the replies tomorrow.

It doesn't have to be about E-sports to just keep things on the level and when it comes to competitive integrity. I think it's more about the maps and travel times in general. Having faggots rotate through exfils at sanic speeds would make any and all elements tied to distances completely void.

Thermals on snipers basically a must on dire with it being foggy and can’t see. Semi auto snipers that barely give you time to react (whoever came up with that one is a really genius). One tap shotguns from a distance. Signal jammers only found in raid and can’t be bought on the market.

It’s getting pretty stale. Fights are basically over before they start. A lot of the guns are pretty cool to use but impractical simply because they get outperformed.

Are any others out there really struggling to get anywhere in the game this week? I've noticed my teams are just getting wiped by other teams with blue or purple gear (on all maps) while I'm struggling to obtain that kind of equipment. It seems the gap between full-time players and the gear they've obtained vs casuals has now really widened since launch. I'm that close to throwing in the towel and just switching to something else. The fun I had in the first week is rapidly disappearing. [Update] This includes my rook runs. Difficult to exfil - getting jumped by highly upgraded other rooks.

One thing i could agree on is giving Solo players a little more exp on successful exfils. Trios tend to just progress at breakneck pace in comparison.

I genuinely prefer solo gameplay and it sucks that I am forced to queue up for endgame activities

Solo is a lot more tense, choices matter and there are no second chances. Kills are more personal and npc engagements are a bigger risk. Noise matters a lot and so does my positioning. I like all of this. I even like to explore the map just because I feel like it.

I don’t like playing with trios. Everyone stomping around everywhere, getting agroed by turrets or burping in the mic.

I am fine if solos are harder, I’m not asking for them to make it easier, I just want to be allowed to play solo only. This applies to Cryo Archive and ranked (dont want 1v3).

If marathon was a popular game then my friends would play as well but the truth is marathon is niche and there is no point in alienating a good chunk of the players base.

To those mentioning raid mechanics etc I say just let me solo queue and we’ll see if I get stuck. Destiny has shown us that many 3 or 6 player intended experiences can be soloed.

For people who want to hate on this post put your money where your mouth is and do squad fill with your best gear. See how it goes. To some degree I see the arguments for Cryo Archive with its puzzles but it makes zero sense for ranked to not have a solo only queue.

The issue with it isn't honestly that it's shit. It's that it comes out the worst unmodded out of all the options that are available. It's got absolutely horrid recoil and iron sights that make it very hard to hit headshots even up to 20m. Now put a proper extended mag, any form of optics and a stock on it? It becomes so noticeable better, it's not even funny. One thing that vouches for it being decent is that console players can easily wreck people with it unmodded, mostly because the controller's aggressive aim assist makes it so much easier to hit the headshots that actually count with the high RPM and recoil the thing actually has.

just control your recoil. recoil in this game is so much easier to manage than in e.g. tarkob. you just pull down. i killed someone with a blue shield from 40m away in a spray battle with an unmodded overrun on a free kit. the gun is totally fine.

engaging in pve is actually detrimental because all it does is alert every other gank squad in your area that you're there and currently engaged which means they'll wipe you out after an easy flank. so there's literally no point. even peanut called this during server slam. the only viable way to play really is stay absolutely silent and move towards gunshots, gank and loot and then rinse repeat until you're the last squad on the map. if ttk was higher this wouldn't be as much of an issue because you would have more than a split second to react

loadout value could also determine the likelihood of better or worse drops. which means there's more of an incentive to run with full kit. the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. unlike now where there's basically no risk if you run in a premade with full kit and everyone else on the map is using freekits and there's barely any reward either

Marathon devs have shared their reasons for Ranked and Cryo Archive being weekend only:

- Players will lose a lot of gear, so Cryo and Ranked should feel like an event you schedule towards and grind gear up to do

- Some rewards on Cryo are too good and would break the economy and power gain systems if it were always open

- Cryo and Ranked both have gear ante requirements and level requirements and need a consistent flow of players in the queue to make sure matches are full to retain the challenge. Making it a scheduled event means more players will show up during that window.

Also scheduling it on weekends alongside ranked is just flat out stupid. It's okay for just doing contracts that are somewhat doable solo, the vast majority of problems come around when you're facing the time where you have to do much more complicated things in a single run and harder maps. Even when faced with having to maybe grab some decent gear to survive and improve the odds there will still be free kit beeline towards quest objectives even on things like Outpost.

Majority of tarkov's playerbase is milsim larping dads and worse case scenario they can just play pve. Some of the "hardcore" player base was definitely lost when movement inertia was implemented and the game became less arcady. Overall I would say both are satisfied well enough for game to survive ~10 years and majority of playerbase is on EOD so they spent like ~150$ each.

So there's an issue where if you are below average player, it just doesn't make sense to bring any gear into a game because you'll likely just lose it, and at that point I should just sell everything for money.

Completely agree. Unlimited Free Kits means I'm guaranteed two free teammates hoping to get hard carried by me. And while I'm good enough to hold my own, I can't 1v3. Invariably my free kit teammates go down instantly and trigger ambushes vs coordinate blues because they have no sense of self preservation (and why would they, their gear was free).
