Xol kind of had something interesting where he would slither across the platform and kill you instantly by crushing you but that was a strike boss while Oryx and The Witness are raid bosses which can't have too much attacks going on while you are solving the mechanics. The Witness at least has attacks during damage phase unlike Oryx that just stand there and lets you pump damage into him. Huge bosses in FPS games just don't really work you'll either have a "environmental navmesh wall" or Ugh-Zan III from Serious Sam which just chases you and if you are too close will just stomp on you.

Halo 3 and Reach never directly told you if you hit an enemies with a hitmarker but you'd be able to tell very easily and it does a similar thing to what Serious Sam does where you hover over an enemy and the crosshair changes color. In Serious Sam's case it also changes color based on the enemies current health so you now how weak an enemy is but only that specific enemy you are looking at. Old Doom is still the greatest in how it does it with the actual bloody impact effects when you hit a target, stunning the enemy when you hit them with enough damage and the sounds they make when they get hit. I let hitmarkers slide in looter shooters like Destiny, Borderlands or Division because they have to show you damage numbers and health bars of enemies so hitmarkers literally don't matter if they show up since you get damage numbers anyway. But for every other FPS game hitmarkers and hitmarker sounds are just sloppy work to be lazy and not make shooting enemies actually feel good organically.

As for the maps themselves, only Outpost can be considered the best in terms of theme and map layouts, but it also sucks because there is so much cool world information in terms of museum audio exhibits that you can't play in peace without drawing the attention of a bunch of rape-happy players. Its a game where the frustration greatly outweighs the good time you can grab from it.
