Since we're reached character limit in the OP post I would propose next changes:
Replace limo with fluorine: https://github.com/SulfurNitride/Fluorine-Manager
Remove stl: old, useless, primarily was used for MO2 but was superseded by fluorine. Doesn't even reflect latest changes in Wine Wayland driver and stuff.
Boxtron and roberta could be removed in favor of luxtorpeda. Luxtorpeda supports both dosbox and scummvm, and former weren't updated in years.
Link to Valve's proton could be either removed or changed to Proton-EM.

Heretic 2 got a sourceport, Windows only.
Works without issues on latest Wine, only gamescope is needed to run it in fullscreen mode.

Also done with Resident Evil 0, it's way worse than Code Veronica, fuck monkeys and leech faggots.
The no item box serves no purpose except to get on your nerves, aiming sucks balls, I had to reload multiple times because I kept missing my molotov cocktail shots, the aiming was perfect in the OG games, how did they regress in that department is a mystery.
The visuals are nice though.
I think I'll emulate the 2 rail shooter spinoffs and play an another game before continuing with 4.

HOLY SHIT
I managed to get NATIVE Heretic 2 work on modern Arch Linux!
I've downloaded original ISO from rutracker (you can find it on archive.org as well), patched it with this https://github.com/legluondunet/MyLittleLutrisScripts/tree/master/OBSOLETE%20NO%20MORE%20MAINTAINED/Heretic%20II/updates and applied fix from here https://onthim.blogspot.com/p/onthim-gaming-downloads.html and shit actually works!
Both videos and sound works, although game buffer leaves its window and drawing itself somewhere else. Typical SDL 1.2 shenanigans, fixed by launching game in Windowed mode. And in windowed mode game completely grabs input you can't even alt+tab out of it... God, I hate X11 so much, I'm glad we have Wayland now where retarded devs can't do such shit.
>>
>>561860386
Why the gay anarcho communist flag?
>>
>>561889461
And the fact that loki statically linked it to SDL 1.2 doesn't make it any better...

A change of setting, no zombies this time.
Apparently the game has issues running above 100 fps, not a problem thanks to on the fly switching limits per mangohud.

>And in windowed mode game completely grabs input you can't even alt+tab out of it... God, I hate X11 so much, I'm glad we have Wayland now where retarded devs can't do such shit.
Then why are you using X11? Does the game not work on Wayland?
>>
>>561890907
>Does the game not work on Wayland?
No because devs statically linked it to SDL 1.2, so I have to use old ass SDL version that only supports X11 without even RandR extensions. If it was dynamically linked to SDL it would've used Wayland backend by default (unless devs would do some retarded X11 shit that would make game not working on Wayland anyway).
>>
>>561889461
What about the music ingame?
You have to go through hoops to get it to run on Windows, though the sourceport fixes that by ripping/converting the ost in .ogg format and put it in a folder.
>>

>unless devs would do some retarded X11 shit that would make game not working on Wayland anyway
Rather the game work than this happen (this is correct grammar btw)
>>
>>561892352
Ogg is community patched, native game only has (?) cd audio support and Linux ISO lacks CD audio lol. I've managed to find Heretic 2 ISO with cd audio, mounted with cdemu and VLC can even play cd audio from it (using cdda://dev/sr0), but game refuses to play CD audio even when it prints "CD Audio Initialized"

I wouldn't even call its current state "working". Issues I experience are not Wayland related: this is how SDL 1.2 behaves on X11 and XWayland accurately translates game's behavior.

Well, I did Insomnia difficulty in Battle Out of Hell (again) in one day. It wasn't that bad this time.
The Orphanage level's "don't get hurt" objective is easy enough if you're not ashamed to quick-save, stand where the enemies can't reach in a couple of rooms, and select/use cards wisely. (One of the gold cards gives invulnerability to enemies; one of the silver cards allows using gold cards three times.)
The time limit to unlock the tarot card on the Dead City level is pretty brutal, but an earlier level has an easy objective to unlock the tarot card that makes all enemies weak enough to die in one hit from anything, and it works on Dead City's mini-boss enemies which saves quite a bit of time.
Leningrad's tarot card objective is finishing with 200 health, and it's packed full of hit-scan enemies, so I save-scummed through it... and finished with 300 health. I overdid it, but I don't think I could have finished with even 200 health without saves.
Killing every enemy in the Underworld level is bullshit because it has on-rails sections that make enemies missable. I had to use one of the gold cards that slows down time when activated.
Every secret in the Stone Pit level wasn't as bad as before, but only because I went straight to a walkthrough and had better luck with the glitchy "platforming". (I'm quite sure that some of the secrets require spamming jump against walls and just hoping you go up instead of bouncing off or sliding down which are all equally likely outcomes and fuck this game's platforming.)
There's one level in the middle that needs to be played on Nightmare so I'll have to start over for that one. I don't know if there's any point in playing this expansion on Trauma.
Anyway, the card for beating the final boss in 4 minutes is pretty cool.
>>
>>561891159

Well at least the game might have a source port built for Linux by the time the Wayland community finds a way to make sure nobody can use X11 anymore.
>>

Why are you using such an old version of Proton? Is it more compatible with this game?
>>
I cannot believe I finished Baldur's Gate enhanced edition with the shitty low fps and the stupid lag when moving characters. The source port fixes these but it's still a shitty port overall. Fuck guess I'll just go for the enhanced edition for BG2

Out of the box, Proton 10.0 does this (and the results are similar with every other Valve Proton newer than 5.13).
>>
>>561915590
>>561916708
Note that this can also be fixed with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 (but then I'm not using DXVK (although I'm sure WineD3D is good enough for this game on this hardware)), and can probably also be fixed with gamescope (but then there would likely be additional input delay based on my experience with gamescope in general).

Not quite.
Judging from errors and recommendation from DeltaRunner repo I figured that it requires some old ass ffmpeg version. With the help of Deepseek I determined that it was ffmpeg 4.4 and CONVENIENTLY ENOUGH Arch repos have separate package for this exact version! So, after installing this package video playback is now working! All this for 2 movies that barely differ in any way.

This "whatever the problem is" is called "unstable API/ABI". Since 5.0 they announced that FFmpeg will break these things every year. Anyway, don't bother, Gamemaker Linux runtime is a fucking mess.

vrr/freesync is when your display changes its refresh rate to match fullscreen content when it is within it's hz range, and no screen tearing when you are within the range. Very useful for movies or capping a games frame rate.

I use a single 42 inch 4k 144hz oled monitor on X11 without any compositor and with vsync disabled and I never notice any tearing, and I have the lowest possible latency. How is my use case not for gaming?
>>
>>562075539
Take a video of the no tearing, I noticed it immediately when I watched anime in fullscreen and played the outer wilds (I had a RX 570 so it couldn't max out the fps)
>>
>>562076950
I meant specifically in games. I do have vsync enabled in mpv (the default option) so I dont get tearing. But mpv also syncs frames to monitor for smoother video, so even when disabling vsync and 144hz it's not really noticeable except in artificial tearing tests. This sync of frame to monitor only works on amd/intel though, nvidia drivers are bugged.
I dont use vsync in games and I dont notice the tearing.
>>
>>562065005
The use case is the 99.999% of games designed to run on one monitor.
Having a second monitor playing anime etc. is comfy but you're not fully enjoying both so you're better off removing the distraction. When I had two monitors set up, I used a keyboard shortcut to run a script that would disable/enable my second monitor, and I'd run it before/after playing a game. Good to know people think there's no use case though. The script used xrandr commands so I look forward to having to write 800 lines of JavaScript to accomplish the same thing when I'm eventually forced to use Wayland.

Dude singlehandedly fixed wine wayland driver. At this point it could be used as daily driver. I've already set PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND variable as global in Lutris.

UHHHH BROS...?
It's not over 5% "again". It was NEVER over 5% before. In fact it was never over 4% before. The graph at GamingOnLinux's Steam Tracker page shows it had previously maxed out at 3.58% in December, followed by a small drop to 3.38% in January before the massive influx of Simplified Chinese users made Linux share plummet in February. Obviously we were expecting Linux to bounce back as the language stats go back to normal, but Linux is now reported as 1.75% higher than it ever was. If the current survey data is accurate, this is fucking huge. Smashing the previous all-time high by that much is actually so unbelievable that I'm going to wait a few days and see if Valve corrects the results before I take them seriously.

Are there native Linux builds that bundle DXVK? Seems a better option than using some janky, untested opengl renderer that's only being used for linux compatibility.I wanted to play Hitman (2016) but how well can a game like that really run on opengl?
>>
>>562298918
There are some native Linux games that use Vulkan, if that's what you mean.
Actually, I think there are some native games that do use DXVK somehow, but that's just a translation of DirectX (generally used only in Windows builds) to Vulkan.
Anyway, OpenGL isn't that bad, at least not on AMD. I wouldn't expect a normie game to have a good Linux port in general though.
>>
>>562298918
Maybe, I can think of one that's in development, C&C Generals. Instead of rewriting the engine they're planning on using DXVK internally
>>
>>562302535
>using DXVK internally
Is that worth it? Why not just use vulkan
>>
>>562302847
Just simpler to implement

https://github.com/TheSuperHackers/GeneralsGameCode/issues/2088
>Use DXVK to translate DirectX 8 calls to Vulkan at runtime. This allows the existing DirectX rendering code to work on Linux with minimal source code changes.
>>

Latest versions of Valve's old games (HL2, Portal, TF2) use DXVK-native for their Linux versions.

Kek! Many anons (me included) were playing original RE titles last couple weeks. Funny that now they come to steam and it's absolute dogshit. It doesn't work and it has digital restrictions management malware (DRM malware). And they are asking their useds (steam doesn't have users) 10 dollars + tax to get their freedoms restricted.
GOD! It feels good to be a freechad
>>
>>562304003
No, it's not a recent change. You have to explicitly enable it with -vulkan command line argument though
>>
Why does Wine hate alt-tabbing so much?
>>
>>562312478
Works for me. Use windowed fullscreen
>>
>>562312478
Dunno, sometimes it's game bugs though. Thankfully WINE offers solutions like fullscreen emulation or virtual desktop
>>
>>562312478
It doesn't, it reproduces how Windows applications behave with alt+tab. If some application (like Fallout: New Vegas) is shitting itself with alt+tab under Windows it will shit itself under Wine as well. If you have problem with alt tabbing you can try Wine Wayland driver since focus loss is not fully implemented there yet so you can have better experience with misbehaving apps lol.

Windows shits itself when alt-tabbing yes, but you're able to restore the window and continue playing. In some games through wine the game freezes when alt-tabbing and you have to restart the game.

Also, I bought new monitor. It's xiaomi redmi g pro 27u, 4K VRR HDR monitor. Although advertised max 1600 nits I calibrated it in Plasma at 1700. It's Chinese model so it had Chinese language by default, OS just like smart tv, tv remote and 30 GiB of internal storage lol (of course I don't connect this Chinese trash to internet).
Monitor is well calibrated from factory, comfortable SDR brightness for me calibrated at 200 nits, just like ITU-R BT.2408 suggests.

Probably something wrong with data harvesting. I am very sceptical of this result
>>
>>562358061
The thing is, every time there has been an anomaly like this it could be seen in the data like extra Chinese or weird hardware stats. Now everything seems normal except more Linux users everywhere.
>>
>>562357759
daily fuck up at microslop might play a part
>>
>>562357759
It's probably just bugged. The survey results have been mysteriously fucked before.
For example, the December results were initially broken, showing certain things adding up to more than 100% if I remember correctly, and Valve fixed the data a few days later. In that case, the correction actually resulted in Linux going from no significant change to a new record high.
>Before: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/01/steam-survey-for-december-2025-shows-linux-holding-to-3-19p/
>After: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/01/valve-amended-the-steam-survey-for-december-2025-linux-actually-hit-another-all-time-high/
This time, given that the Linux data looks so anomalous, any correction issued by Valve will likely put the Linux user share back down below 4%.
There's a good chance it will still be a new record, considering Linux has been consistently trending upwards for years when you remove the outliers. Things just don't move this fast, so I don't think the 5% is real just yet.
