trying to run dolphin core on retroarch with my phone, mupenplus too, and for some reason games are just making my bluetooth inputs largely disappear, and only specifically these games. wonder if it's just too much for the cores to handle somehow despite the menus working fine when i manage to get in them; shit even crashes outright if i load dolphin from RA but doesn't if i load from daijisho, framerates seem to be stable but the inputs just poof and shit crashes if memory card access happens. maybe i just need to go grab individual emulators, jesus christmoto g stylus 2023, it's able to run most things fine so far, but bluetooth has notable input delay and RA has sound delay.

What are the thoughts on RetroArch on PC? It feels like it's built to be used on a standalone device more than other emulators, but it seems to be the best way to have RetroAchievements for some system (like GBA through mGBA core)I'm not sure how excited I really about the "one hub for a bunch of emulators" deal, since I'm happy with all the standalones as there's usually a good option supporting RetroAchievements anyway
>>561900662retroarch is for snes, nes, mega drive, what else? nothing else. what is there to even play on those consoles in 2026? we all already played chrono trigger and terranigma, there's nothing to play with retroarch
I think I’ve downloaded all the games I want to play. If I finish one each week, it’ll take me 2 years and 16 weeks to get through every MS-DOS game I’ve downloaded.
>>561901471Seems to support like 46 systems including DS, Wii & GBAhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RetroArch#Supported_systemsThere might be better/equivalent options for other options, but like I said I was looking at what options there are for retroachievements of the GBA & mGBA was highly recommended on the emugenwiki, which has the achievements work through the core but not in the standalone emulator
>>561902756no point in using retroarch for those, the standalones are better and easier to work with
>>561901471>retroarch is for snes, nes, mega drive, what else?I use RetroArch to emulate everything from the Apple II all the way up to the Nintendo Wii.The problem is that you might "learn" how to set up RetroArch, or you'll end up like those retards complaining about basic nonsense. It tends to filter out niggers and thirdworlders.
>>561899581Man I hate this shit so much. On one hand its a pain to just find full romsets (as in actually complete) for all the ones small enough an average person can do it. On the other hand its almost easier to find a full set torrent for things you can't even store on a single pc than to actually find working torrents for every game you'd want.
>>561900662If you don't like one hub then there is no reason to use it. Personally it is just easier for me since its a one and done. And everything convenient like controllers and save state synching just works. Also the great thing about retroarch is for one system you can just switch emulators per game if there is a difference. And you can just download every emulator all at once.
liking retroarch is the litmus test to see if you're a hoarder that will download dozens of terabytes of terrible software or if you're a minmaxer that will curate your own rom sets and only keep what's absolutely a good time when you boot it up.minmaxers hate retroarch.
I don't know, man. RetroArch is pretty good. Is a virtual console.

Redguard runs terribly, barely hitting a smooth 10fps. Battlespire, on the other hand, runs fine and is pretty fun. I played for almost 40 minutes just testing it out, and I think I’ll keep playing. I like swinging the sword; you hold right click and swing the mouse, is funny.

Know what I hate about getting older PC games you're unfamiliar with? All the fucking versions, patches, and expansion packs you gotta account for. You might see a game recommended on the wiki, look for it on Myrient (or whatever will replace it), and download it, only to find out the most complete, up-to-date version was actually released a year or two later, sometimes with extra stuff like CD audio and voice acting or higher-res graphics. But then sometimes it turns out what you actually want is the FIRST version because the latter one changed some gameplay stuff or re-arranged the soundtrack, or it has "updated" graphics that are inferior to the original's in terms of art direction. And let's not even get into games released during the early 3D accelerator era.

Almost every time a beginner emu dev starts a project, it's almost always yet another NES/6502 or Game Boy emu. What the hell? Why not give some love and try your skills with less mainstream systems? 3DO, Nokia N-Gage, Gizmondo, CD-i, Nuon.. some don't have emus at all, some only have Libretro shit cores (means you suck balls if you prefer standalone, out of luck, buddy), some have only dead emulators no longer being worked on... what version of metroid prime is the best for just playing the gameoriginal, rev 1 or rev 2?
still downloading shit from myrient i guess......
Amok for DOS has a resolution mode that literally just adds black lines to act as TV scanlines, and the readme even says it's so the game doesn't look as blocky. Just thought that was interesting. Of course, if it's on a powerful enough PC, you can just run the game at 640x480.
>>562054264Revisions are almost always just basic bug fixes. Unless you have a specific reason otherwise, you should always go with the latest revision.
>>562056745>>562054264Metroid Prime is a bit of a special case in this regard, actually. The later revisions rewrite some of the data scan logs IIRC, but most importantly, they also fix exploits that are useful for sequence breaking and speedrunning but are otherwise not harmful in the slightest. OoT is another game like this, where there's pretty much no reason to play the later revisions because they only fix shit Nintendo is anal about but doesn't harm the player at all.
>>562056367I remember back in the day people would talk shit about the "scanline" filters that just added black lines, saying that didn't simulate CRTs at all. It wasn't until a few years ago I had the epiphany that those filters where for people on 30kHz monitors to simulate 15kHz TVs, and they actually work pretty well.I'm sure playing Amok like that is much nicer than line doubling and having crispy pixels.btw does anyone have that screenshot of the John Carmack crisp pixels tweet?
>>562057192Similarly, those old filters like 2xSaI, Scale2x, and SuperEagle that people meme on were meant for old PC CRT monitors running at 640x480. I won't argue they make games look better than they would on a TV, but they function better than you'd think on the intended displays.

>>562085181>>562088667Zoomies and torrents.
>>562092721I know how to use a torrent client and I'm not a zoomer. Don't @ me with the mutt laws shit, there's still iknowwhatyoudownload.com. It's just no replacement for fast servers that don't gape yourself for bad actors/corpos. Torrents are honestly better for legal, white area content like Linux distros and open source software than questionable, piracy-adjacent stuff.
>>562093717>(low seeds)Willing to take that risk over overnight closures of sites that happen frequently.>even a legal issue unless you use a VPN or triblerYour isp logs everything, even your downloads. If somebody wants to put you court for pirating, direct downloads are not safe anyway.> It's just no replacement for fast serversIt is exactly a replacement because it doesn't require astronomical bills to maintain. HDD/SSD prices will continue to skyrocket until 2032 minimum. Sites will close one after another. Is torrenting, perfect, no.But it beats a site shutting down or having to prune content( like vimm/archive).
>>562094187There's a mountain of difference between your ISP getting a subpoena to track your shit and bust you specifically and any retard on kiwifarms pulling up your IP on iknowwhatyoudownload or any corpo out to sue scraping all IPs from an active torrent. >>562094627The difference is negligible.Unless you got some real world data to show that most people sued for piracy were using torrents? And that they didn't upload the torrent originally?
>>562095513In any case the situation's fucking gay and we'll have to rely on barely/non-working torrents for shit like non-Teknoparrot PC arcade games. >>562094627Nah, the ideal solution is to have a single direct download website like Myrient but with more limitations. Not paywalls since it would only make targetting website easier by Cucktendo for profiting from pirated ROMs. Just optional donation buttons. But with other limits in place.E.g. downloads may be limited to registered accounts only (registration is absolutely free but still takes time, and it would undeniably cut off some loaders) with bans on those who register multiple accounts to cheat the system and captchas for every download. Download limits per account (like "you can only download no more than 50 files and no more 50 GB of traffic per week, and whichever limit of these two you hit, it won't reset until the next week", Turran uses such systems in their FTP server for their Amiga games, I think), dynamically generated download URLs instead of static (bye-bye, hoarders with download managers downloading whole romsets and never playing 99% of games while the owner pays out for bandwidth) valid for like a few hours than expiring.Basically, the same Myrient but with reasonable restrictions. Unlike what Alexey had been doing (he literally advertised the capability to download everything with managers in Myrient's FAQ. WTF is this self-sabotage?)

>>562108782(samefag)In fact, a majority of torrents that get re-seeded on private trackers are often files that were already preserved on Usenet indexes.
>>562108032>it seems like you need the specific rom they want you to use for it to workI'm not hunting down specific ROMs. I use my own collection; if RetroAchievements works with what I already have, it's a nice bonus. If not, no big deal.
>>562108782>>562109034>UsenetThere are several private trackers dedicated to niche collections, like DVD Video and Blu-ray ISOs. Does Usenet have anything similar? I assume they’re either private or tucked behind a paywall?

As for 256px vs 320px, that depends on the game/content. Most SNES titles run at 256px, while the Genesis usually calls for 320px.Keep in mind, don't even bother with those types of shaders for 480p-era consoles. You need a monster GPU and a high-res display to properly simulate the mask, beam behavior and other shieeet at that resolution. Use something like this for 480p systems instead:https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Shaders,_presets_and_filters#SDTV_Experience_Presetthis one for reshade though.
>>561918823thank you so much niggers, after downloading the entire thing I can only conclude, with very few specific exceptions like the BS Zelda mod or the true to life remaster of DKC done by the original composer, that the original SNES sound was truly a class of its own, and that only bigger retards than most msu modders are emugen'ers.

To recap, this is all on a 1080p TV with nothing fancy like OLED and HDR. I mainly intend to emulate the SNES so 256px it is. I found Bomberman 64 to run surprisingly decently but I may not go with shaders/filters if I dabble further into N64 (I'm also curious about Dreamcast and Saturn emulation on the Switch). I'd expect that recent recomp to make it to the Switch but I hear recent firmware updates are kneecapping its spare RAM. Ship of Harkinian and ALttP won't boot anymore.
>>562113460refresh rate and motion blur have nothing to do with each other, the term you want is response time, and oleds have like 0.1ms response time, no motion blur
>>562114427>I assumed higher number=more recentNope, "SNES9x 2010" is literally a snapshot of the code from 2010. You definitely want to use the main "SNES9x" core. You could try bsnes, but it might be too demanding for the Switch CPU. Honestly, only a handful of games actually need bsnes accuracy, so it’s probably not worth the hassle.>Shit the fuck? To recap, this is all on a 1080p TV with nothing fancy like OLED and HDR.Exactly. You don't want to use heavy mask shaders for 480p-era consoles on that setup. Like I said earlier, for 480p systems (PS2, Xbox, GC, early 360, Wii), stick to presets that simulate signal and cable types (Composite/S-Video) like that "SDTV Experience Pack" preset. But again, those aren't really playable on Switch anyway, so... yeah.
>>562115370My computer monitor is 1080p (again, no OLED or HDR) so I'd have much more choice if I emulate there instead but the PC is in an inconvenient spot (think very cramped office-like space) whereas my video games are placed where ergonomics is trivial, hence my putting Retroarch on Switch. My memories of legitimate CRTs borders on bogus so I'm just looking for "good enough" not "better have a 4k monitor with HDR or eat shit" tier. Or, whatever's better than what NSO offers. Fortunately, the SNES controller is still detected by Retroarch and the romhack isn't exactly asking for extra buttons. Sort of. Don't think I'll miss the fast forward function.

>>562116418>SDTV presetYou’ll need a reasonably modern GPU (GTX 960 or better) for that, though. An old office PC from 2010 isn't going to cut it for 480p system emulation plus the SDTV Experience preset.
>>562116819I said office-like space. The GPU is an RTX 3060 (too long a story on how I ended up with that except I'd be sticking with a GTX 950 if I could). Unless the Switch 2 gets hacked within this decade, I may have to stick with the PC for emulation past 16-bit. Lord knows I prepared for it considering what'll be lost a few hours from now.

>>562175810Most games it just meant you could use the camera for something stupid. The other big one was the ability to use WPA1/2 networking since the base NDS only supported WEP, and I think that's the only thing Fire Emblem does with it.Also the DSi CPU ran faster and it had more ram, NDSi Enhanced games could make use of that. Sonic Classic Collection uses a more accurate emulator when played on a DSi. It's the only game I know of that does something like that.

>>562179392WhatIt's the truth, you find using an accurate simulator of every single crt quirk in your super expensive super high refresh screen to be your thing, and it evokes in you that "just like the real thing" feeling? More power to you, doesn't change that it is a subjective experience and rn for many newpixie is doing the best job at that.
>>562192645Not to shitpost, but wouldn't it be cool if you could simulate the burnt-in effect that most arcade monitors have now? It's not a game of Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga without Ms. Pac-Man's maze being permanently burnt into the screen.I'm sure you could do this with an OLED display anyway, but it's funny to think about.
Finally, I can play the worst Civ game without shit-ass Switch emulation or troonux
>>562192645Fair enough, but I was responding to the absolute brain-rot in that post. Every time someone states an objective fact, some midwit has to push his glasses up his nose and chirp, "Well, that’s just your subjective experience!" or "Works for me!" as if their personal anecdote overrides reality/truth.Not everything is a "matter of opinion" The West has been obsessed with this hyper-individualist garbage since the Enlightenment, pretending that truth is whatever you feel it is.When it comes to CRT simulation, there are objective metrics for accuracy: phosphor decay, scanline convergence, signal noise, luminance curves etc. If a shader fails to replicate these physical properties, it is objectively less accurate. Saying 'I like the way this blurry mess looks' doesn't make it a faithful reproduction; it just means you have different taste. Accurate simulation isn't a 'feeling', it's a technical benchmark.>It's the truthExactly.

We all know how to use torrents, buddy. The gripes aren't with setting up a client, which is absolutely trivial, it's the random-ass and often lacking performance and the necessity of a VPN or Tribler if you don't want people up your ass. You're trying to shame everyone into torrenting more because it'll mean more seeds, but it's not going to be a thing for obscure/niche old games. Only popular media will be reasonably available via torrents. Most people don't use them ethically and grab shit with the lowest upload ratio possible and fuck off. Regardless of whether you live in a country where this matters or not, you still broadcast your IP when you use them, and that info can be used by anyone how they will unless you take measures to hide it. There have been kiwifarms threads where people get someone's IP and laugh at them for what they've downloaded. A small content creator may not like that you're pirating their stuff and DDoS you. There's more that can happen with your IP than being legally busted.
>>562268949>we might reach "emulate the N64 games through Wiiware Dolphin packages"I wouldnt be surprised. Nintendo's n64 emulator for the gamecube was decompiled and the one for the wii is getting there.
>>562265716Its crazy to me how bloodborne is completely playable from beginning to end but every other game on shadps4 is completely fucked.

>>562266308The 3ds screen doesn't have halation like that.
>>562299568[cont] it can also be used to geolocate and identify you, especially if you've expressed interest in that content or let on where you might live online before. An IP by itself isnt much but it combined with your social blabbing it can unmask you. Waiving all this as a "zoomer myth" is either very malicious or stupid of you. Torrents should be used with a VPN or Tribler full fucking stop.
>>562302831Zoomie found out what IP means. Good for you.If you actually ever worked at an ISP you would know they have your non torrent dl tied to the exact time-date-location.Plus, the servers you download from fold like wet paper when given an dmca.

It’s fun, but it requires learning patterns and timing how quickly you press A. There’s little room for gameplay expression. But she's cute.
>>562305158There's a world of difference between private info your ISP has and anything anyone can scrape publicly. I'm tired. You use torrents. You have fun. I'll use them if I'm pushed against the wall and have no other options.
>>562305487The second webm doesn't have any shader, just down sampling.

>>562322328Even natively, without any shader monkeying, the game's internal resolution, scaling, AA, shading... it's all ugly and cheap looking. Not a fan. Wish they just made it a pure 2D game.
>>562322625The Citra one, i didn't have the patience to redownload my roms yet for the Azahar core.

Thank god AzaharPlus is still being maintained.
>>562326464Same for ShadLix. Fuck troons, fuck furries, fuck gimping certain game formats to and features like pkg installation to spite users.
Let me guess: Prime 4's scanning is still buttfucked in all the memeforks, right?
>>562327039>nu-Prime 4 That game's shit, avoid it. Tabata fucked up and Nintendo made him quit. That punk-ass ruined Chibi-Robo, Paper Mario, and Metroid Prime too.Do yourself a favor and don't play that shit. It's dogshit. Or do it: play it. It's your time, not mine. Fuck you.
>>562325673I didn't download my roms from myrient, they are as dirt as it can be, straight up SCENE PIRACY DOOD, i think of all my games only TWO worked with Azahar. But here just to stop your whining, this webum was recorded using Azahar, no problem even with MUH BEZEL applied, i played for a good 30 minutes till the first Metroid. But i gotta say i'm getting more shader stuttering with Azahar core than the Citra one...
>>562327332Weird. It crashes on my end but Citra works fine. Guess you're not a low-key faggot after all. Cheers.

Meme localization aside, would you say BBR on the DS is a worthy update to Bubble Bobble? Despite being familiar with both Arcade and Genesis Snow Bros., I've never gotten around to completing Bubble Bobble at all.
>>562307539Why don't torrents use some form of SSL and ECH anyways? It seems like an obvious solution to this issue of initial identification, at least until the company looks at the torrent itself. I know that certificates are kind of an issue, but I'm sure there'd be a way around it, like tracker certs or something.I'm a programmer but I'm not really used to network programming.
>>562098460does that site have no-intro and redump dumps?
Well that's a whole new level of disturbing. I downloaded a PNG reticle and set in in PCSX2 and the fucking deleted it and sent it to the recycling bin. How much access does this nonfunctional pile of excrement have to your computer?

NTA. That PSone faggot is the same idiot who's emulating 3DS with a CRT shader with a deformed 3DS bezel. He is a brown troon 100%
I'm playing Ocean Hunter in the Model 3 emulator and the reticle doesn't line up with the mouse cursor on screen. I can't find a calibration option in the game's service menu. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Time for some impotent rage.
>>562407542Game looks comfy and it's a decent use case for a CRT shader, not a bezel-fag (nor the person you've been fighting with) though. I'm more of a fan of moving screen 2 to another monitor, which sadly cannot be done in 'sharts. Shaderglass + shandalone can allow you to keep a full shader screen on one monitor and the 2nd screen on another, though.
>>562407542You have impotent rage?
>>562408595He's knowingly engagement-slopping the thread.
I got one of these, started playing OoT with it, even beat the horseback archery game to 100% it, and am on to MM. But, why is aiming awful? Is it just some mismatch between modern joysticks, or direct input, the emulator, and how the N64 stick worked? I have to barely nudge the stick for fine adjustment and if I push it a hair further the aim is flying across the screen. Is there some fix to make it tolerable or was the original system like this? I no longer have one to compare.
>>562413202Just fuck with the deadzones and sensitivity til it's right. Stick aiming has always been a subjective mess and gyro for slight aiming + stick for wide sweeps is superior anyway.
>>562413202Also keep in mind it's a 20fps game and it was the early days of stick aiming; probably has a fuck-huge deadzone/minimum speed in the original game, you may need to set your deadzone and minimum accordingly.
>>562407542LET'S GO BEZELFAG WE ALL BEZELPILLED NOW

>>562417586You'll just have to fuck with the emulator's settings til it feels right. If you're using SteamInput or DS4Win you may have some options to fuck with before it hits the emulators.
