I am gonna write a basic space invaders using AI, then I will write a 2.0 version without the AI code.

Because I don't want to write something where I don't understand the code it has.

Still, I do feel is useful to vibe code as training wheels, because is like tracing AI art.

Actually, in all seriousness if anybody has any book or resource recommendations I'd appreciate it. Hear Ian Millington's book is pretty good and that's what I'm currently reading through. I've read some other things in the past but that was a long time ago. There are differences between the physics simulations you do in academia and game physics, obviously. But there is also a lot of obvious overlap. I'm not stranger to numerical ode and pde solving. The collision stuff I'm more iffy with. I remember reading some collision stuff in the past and I thought it was reatively easy. Of course some of the more advanced stuff like the collision baking that physx does is a bit more advanced.

I just can't stand to use a physics engine written in C++ bros. Like a decade ago I made a C++ OpenGL/PhysX toy engine, but it didn't have the SOUL of something written in C and Lisp.

You need to think of action video games more like magic tricks and not simulations. If you're still talking about the movement, that's because you have a floaty feedforward animation controller. e.g. When you walk into an enemy or wall or something, your character will still play the forward run animation at full speed, while not moving or even getting pushed back aka moonwalking. If you go and look at the Unreal movement controllers, you'll see that it uses the environment feedback to decide what animations to play. I haven't used any of the Unity movement controllers, but I assume you can find similar ones on the asset store.

The Steam algorithm looks at the playtime distribution as one of the main factors to determine how much visibility they give a game. If players stop playing a $15 game after just a few hours, then the algorithm stops showing it to people. If you can gain visibility from elsewhere like YouTube or journalists, then you don't need high playtime and depend on the Steam algo, but this Arksync has nothing going for it.

I really shouldn't try for something large scope until I have a working game. I'd rather expand on something simple that works.

I think a physics engine (basic) will be much easier than render engine for me. I read about 50 pages of this 400 page book on making a basic 3d physics engine since my earlier post and I understand everything. I looked at later sections and they seem to use basic techniques I learned years ago. I guess it also helps that I've read books like this in the past.

I have work tonight and for the next few days. But then I have some time off, so I'll try to post something around then.

We've had this argument before. Low-IQs think listing more cherrypicked anecdotes changes anything about the underlying distributions. Playtimes matter, but only within the genre.

I've told you this many times, but as a gamer who bought both Factorio and Satisfactory fairly early on in EA and with over 1k total hours when combining the two, I would never buy or play Roody:2d because it's single player. I'd rather just host another playthrough of Factorio with some different mods. I showed my extremely autistic friend who plays actual robotics simulators and he wouldn't give Roody:2d a try either.

This is what I'm currently focusing: to make full polished games. I prolly have only made less than 5 full-games and they all suck, but they are improving here and there because I'm looking at them and trying to figure out why they suck, what they lack and what I need to improve. Just started learning how to make a game, I have no idea what the fuck is going on. The bare minimum of putting down walls and giving collision was easy. But this code shit has me by my enormous testicles.

Just think about the problem on its own and come up with a solution, like a flowchart.
You have data, like a variable for if the light switch is on or not. Maybe check if the player is near the switch, if he clicks a button, then the switch toggles, stuff like that. You gotta think high level.
Also, you will get better the more you code, just like anything else, and it'll become more intuitive.
Patience might be the best virtue a gamedev can have.

Is that the output from ONLY the 2D freeform node or the entire tree, possibly with other animations blending in at the wrong time? I'm also considering player upgrades.
Most games have big upgrade trees that passively give small bonuses but when it comes to impactful upgrades I've always just figured out something that works and stuck to it.

Maybe it's a good idea to just give the player the choice and have the replay value silver lining if they choose the same character or the same upgrades throughout their first play through.

I am back after years.
I found a job as Unreal Engine dev!!! I'm so happy about that. (already 2 years in.)
ON top of that, I am allowed to vibe code, so I'm getting good at it.

Here's my current project. How does it look? few hours in.

SPREADING SOME GOOD VIBES

YOU CAN BE ANYTHING

Here's my secret tip: forget Unity. Forget Unreal. Use HTML/JS (2D Phaser/3D Threejs) and VIBE CODE. Why? Because the game engine requires you to plug stuff in the interface, whereas JS is pure vibe coding all the way through, so it goes FAST (with Claude Code). You can be a 100X engineer.
IT's also very fast to iterate & very easy to implement multiplayer or for the AI to reflect on the design (it can screenshot & interact with the webpage if you're a top chef about it -- not quite there yet). Unreal is best if you're a team I guess. We're making some crazy sophisticate work I cannot talk about.
