The real consequence of genocide route is knowing you did it for lulz and not being able to take that back. Clearly different people take that more or less seriously but I think it's executed about as well as a little indie videogame can pull off. Chara's soul shenanigans was an epic troll, but maybe the true reset stuff could've been handled differently or left out so that players don't view 'beating Chara' by messing with save files a way to outsmart the game and sort of miss the above the message. Maybe that's what Deltarune will try to do, I mean there's no way it will have permanent consequences in quite the same way given there are 3 save slots.

The secret bosses may be mandatory in the Weird Route(twisted sword), but you have the option to fight them in the regular route. It rewards pacifist players who want to engage with the world and are willing to challenge themselves to go the extra mile, even if you don't necessarily have to do that to get the best ending(as far as we know right now). It makes the intended route the most FUN route, you get the full package and nothing incentivizing you to commit violence(except against Tenna who deserves it). Violence is a deliberate choice you make because you simply want to be violent and cause harm(btw it's ok to fight Tenna, as long as you recruited everyone he's fine anyways)
