That Sekiguchi quest where you had to loot a Sparkleaf in Dire Marsh was really intense. I really thought I could just find one out onf the wild but I couldn't find a single one, so I tried to search Greenhouse but I couldn't find any either, and time was running out, less than 15 minutes and I still didn't even loot a Sparkleaf. Just when I was about to give up, I found a lone one on a random table in the literal last room I was going to check before giving up. Somehow I managed to avoid trouble and do the other steps, and could exfil with another random assassin. I'm still shaking, this doesn't seem like the quest one does first try. I think I got extremely lucky.

I've had 3 runs today where I've found every body on the map and none of them had a red keycard on them, but every single red key spawn on the map was empty. So after 2 hours of Rook runs in Outpost I can say that every single PvP encounter is wstr shotguns duel.Literally EVERY SINGLE FIGHT ends with a shotgun duel. Okay, these new Outpost changes genuinely suck for solo play. I'm disappointed.I just had a run where I killed more than half the lobby, 5 players. I had 2 red keys from antenna's, 3 orange keys, 3 green keys. I was stacked and I earned it. BUT- Pinwheel vault room now needs 3 red keys to open. Other players grabbed the antenna keys and exfil'd early meaning I had to rely on RNG purple enemy drops. None dropped, so the room was perma-closed.- Command Wing now has 2 purple enemies and at least 4 blue enemies. This caused a solo clear of the room to take considerably longer, I lost a lot of time.- New strongbox locations are not intuitive and just don't make sense. In weird locations that I think are supposed to encourage fighting ads instead of looting and running, but they're in weird spots now.For real, if I kill almost every player and make the last 2 run from the match, I should be able to loot everything because I feel like I earned it.

Solo is easier to avoid rape, and find the weakest possible targets to abuse. The hard part is exfil, you have to do it when 2(two) exfils are active. So if the giga sweat goes to the other exfil to check it, you get away, if not, you fight long enough to exfil without getting stabbed. You don't have to win, just do damage and don't fall for 10 secs.
Marathon is an extraction shooter, and the only reason to extract from a map is value.A high tier shield is only valuable if it's opposite and lower tier shield exists. If I grab a purple shield then queue into a game with only other purple shields then my shield no longer has any real value.If my items have no value, then there is no reason to extract. If there is no reason to extract then there is no reason to play and even if you continue playing, the only real thing to do is kill other players. And if the only thing to do is kill other players, then you just have a no respawn death match lobby.An extraction shooter with gear based matchmaking is an identity crisis.And if the devs decide to add Skill Based Matchmaking, they have to be very very carful because Skill Based Matchmaking can turn into silent Gear Based Matchmaking.Players with higher gear are going to naturally perform better. So after your 10 successful extractions in a row with a gold shield, you die and lose it. Your free kit runs immediately after are going to be skewed towards high skill. This actually amounts to higher highs and lower lows. I think the last thing anyone wants is longer loss streaks (Fabricated because your own moment works against you) in exchange for the possibility of longer win streaks.

To fully loot a wing without arousing suspicion it can take upwards of 6 minutes. You need to leave some time to secure an exfil too now that final exfil is random, so 17 minutes is the bare minimum you should have.I think on most maps you can get away with not playing assassin, but here he's super important for saving you time moving past UESC. Thief is great for pinwheel runs so you don't waste time dicking around with strongboxes that have nothing worthwhile and Destroyer is good for just doing shit fast and clearing out pinwheel if you wanna go loud. Vandal is...Fine. Other 2? Not worth

I think that’s about it. Put 100 hours in, all I do now is Codex entries from Cryo on the weekends here and there. Game is solid, it’s an 8.75/10 as far as launched live service games go, but it needs a stronger PvE grind. It needs raids without the pressure of PvP. This is the problem now, Bungie have a competing IP with Destiny where they don’t want either game stepping on toes.There’s really good potential here for raids where cores and implants have real usage and planning required. Cryo is great, but it feels like an elaborate CoD zombies map with a boss at the end.The game is real good, but it needs this overarching PvE element that’s just not there yet, and the devs seem too focused on the competitive shooter angle. It needs raids. I don’t know what else to say. Needs levels and maps and bosses to stress your loot pool outside of player engagements.

I'm struggling to see where "Ranked" fits into Marathon. In reality, it's meant to be a mechanism to funnel the games top performing players into an isolated playlist so the remaining population can go about their time in the traditional zones. The problem is ranked does not flow well with the existing design of the maps. In the base maps, players are completing contracts, visiting POIs for specific salvages and tackling events like lockdowns and wardens. In ranked, no one cares about that because giving up your position to complete something like an anomalous sample is way too risky. This creates a stagnated stalemate where everyone wants to play passive until a safe, third party option becomes available. However, the philosophy of pitting together the top players into an "end game" competition is the right call. If I were a designer at Bungie, this is where I would break out of the extraction mold and put together some other type of competitive mode. This could be the "Trials of Osiris" of Marathon, a completely new way to play the game that matches Bungie's history of providing many avenues of excitement.

Eventually, NuCal will have barters for purple shields available. Mine was for Neurochem packs, and managed to purchase like 9 of them. They often have them for purple mats as well, but you obviously have to get purple mats stocked up to take advantage of that. Also, keep grinding NuCal contracts and their level rewards often contain purple shields.

As someone whos new to the whole extraction shooter thing, im guessing that as the season goes on it gets harder and harder to go in with free kits or whatever equals that since now most teams are going to have high end gear and be kitted up real good.Also the MM seems to match you based on level so the more you play the more sweaty teams you fight.Which is honestly fine. I think a leason learned this season is properly leveling your factions is huge. Im down to go on and go head to head with high end teams. Its fun! For Marathon, i think there is a healthy balance. Even though gear does matter a lot, well placed ambushes, traps and advantage in positioning will get you fucked by any team, even those who aren't playing at their perfect. It's what i think the game does best currently and i'd love the non-ranked modes to stay as they are, as it also gives the average players a chance at cracking away at those who have better gear.

Been watching some solo rank streamer yesterday and only one game out of maybe 5 was somewhat interesting.Basically 1 game where he got to actually play the game, kill people, loot them and exfil.
